I'm really not sure but I think it's just because barred doors are considered the same as any door in Amnesia, which would imply that monsters can't see through them either. (and would also explain why you can grab the door even if your cursor is between the bars)

For the glitched animation loop and him turning back after breaking the door, I assume they're just your average glitches in Amnesia..

Just to clarify, I've seen a few videos where Grunts breaking doors... Sorta breaks them (and probably other enemies). Sometimes seriously breaks them. Probably has to do with the sudden spike in processing when the door is broken. Especially with that metal door, which doesn't break normally.

Sometimes the enemy breaks and stands there after breaking a metal door off of it's hinges, he's speculating that the game gave priority to the breaking of the metal door and thus ended the enemies attack scripts.
