  • ... Is it bad that I would LOVE a Sonic game with the story you just described?

  • MovieBob without the Nihongophilic, Power Rangers-esque sketch bullshit.

    Those were the fuckin' days.

  • Man ... SEGA totally listened to you!!

Speed meter, weaponized speed, interesting level design, simple controls, water running, they didn't kill the cast, but they were thrown aside a bit, even the Robotnik stuff was mentioned ... like they used almost it all in Sonic Generations ... they kepd the story childish and didn't go for the detailed story, but I think that's better, more like the old games which had pretty much no story.

  • So....generations?

  • "hopefully you don't hate me for recommending the genocide of the supporting cast."

    Too late, fuck you.

  • I'v been thinking this for ages get outta my head and great vid

  • isn't robotnik mostly human? .3.

  • For the first 3, I couldn't help thinking "He's talking about Unleashed, and he'll say 'so far, I'm talking about Unleashed, but for that extra mile...'" After all, not even Colors grasped concepts beyond those essential 3, except for keeping humans out in a good way. Frankly, I'm alright with the "Sonic saves the cute animals/aliens from the power-hungry egg-shaped rich scientist" plot.

However, Sonic has to lose his attitude, especially because of his "talking to bosses" habit in Colors.

  • hello, sonic 4

  • Robotnic, now thats badass, I remember being a kid and hearing that name for the first time. Awesome

  • I could just tell he was smiling while he said they should start the game by killing all the side cast.

  • DO NOT GO DOWN THE FUKING MEGAMAN PATH. actually mario is basically doing the same shit. You know what I think Mario needs a redesign cuz its always the same shit nowadays. Also I know this didnt apply back then but since Unleashed, this series has been doing MUCH better

  • everything you mentioned they put into Sonic Generations... mind=blown

  • I enjoyed both these videos a lot! Some seriously clever thinking, although heavily referenced by previous Fleetway & Archie comic storylines, but that's definitely no bad thing since the comic still sells like hot cakes!!

  • I would say keep the support staff and integrate them into the village in some odd way.

  • the beginning kinda describes sonic generations

  • As for reviving old once-seemingly-timeless classics that seem to be past their prime? Maybe Sega should learn from the BBC? Two words: DOCTOR WHO. Two more words. TOP GEAR. Yeah, it's kinda like that.

  • @Lollipop708 One time, that happened! Shadow is still one of the best characters in the series, and if you don't like him, chances are you hate everything.

  • Love the Secret of Nihm reference, love the fact you don't hate Amy as much. What's wrong with Cream? She's adorable!

  • That was a pretty badass reboot............

  • Your plot sounds alot like the the second mad max.

  • I'm happy Sonic 4 part 1 and Sonic Generations were both good. Generations was okay

  • hell yeah kill shadow

  • Starting with the Chemical Plant Zone music. I love it. :D

  • Put Sonic in the Burnout franchise. :)

  • Back to the story, perhaps Knuckles was supposed to do something that he screwed up. Maybe, I don't know, protecting the kid that ran away? Maybe that's why he feels he has to protect the village, to redeem himself. Just a thought.

  • I would totally love to see a Sonic game which had that story in.

  • 2:50 he's already got that

    3:40 he's got that too

    4:00 that too

4:20 do you even play the games anymore?

4:40 i think your talking about sonic's "Time Break"

5:30 OK, Big and Cream can go, and Gamma's already dead, genius. But Shadow is gonna stay! END OF DISCUSSION!!!!

    8:09 AGEED

  • @darkfinalhazard If Shadow stays they have to stop killing him, bringing him back to life and giving him amnesia.

  • Your ideas intrigue me and i wish to subscribe to your magazine. but i dont think nuking the entire extended cast is entirely necessary. I think they just need to be heard from less; only show up for mythology gags and cameos. I know you dislike shadow, but i think his marketing fueled genesis mirrors sonic (in some sort of ironic, meta fashion) and i still think he has the potential to be an interesting villain, if only someone can take away his gun.

  • Actually, there have always been developed cities in the Sonic universe. If you go back to the early Sonic games and look at the Starlight Zone, Casino Night Zone, and a few others, you can see tall buildings in the background.

  • Bob, would it be possible for you to do a follow-up to these videos? Sonic 4, Colors and Generations certainly managed to improve on the many issues that you noted in these episodes and I'm sure many would like to hear your current opinion.

  • I'll go for a cast genocide... but I'll just come out and say I enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog's game, and do like him, but he needs a new backstory that makes him not shit. I don't know. Anything. I know it's stupid, and many will disagree, but I like shadow.

  • @NinjaRacoonDelta2 I think if he just lost the whole amnesia bullshit, there would be nothing wrong with him

  • You know whats funny Bob? Nobody who is a Genisis era Sonic fan, gives a shit about any Sonic character that came after Sonic and Knuckles. You're a Nintendo kid, you think you hate all of Sonics friend? Oh ho ho, you have no idea how much we fucking hate them.

  • I personally enjoyed Unleashed HD a great deal. Colors and Generations were pretty good too.

  • The funny thing is that Sonic Team has done many of these suggestions recently but still managed to screw it up through horrible level design based around trial and error and making sonic control overly loosely.

Also of note is that the boost he was talking about I believe he said that it should be something used sparingly. Unleashed for PS2/Wii got higher scores than for PS3/360 and the boost is used sparingly for PS2/Wii and has better overall level design imo.

  • @RoninCatholic If by this side of the pond you mean this side of the Pacific, then I 100% agree.

  • what's funny is most of your suggestions for the "mario path" were prevalent in sonic colors which I consider the best sonic game in the last 10 years.

  • Sega took the MegaMan path with Sonic 4 and failed.

Sega took the Mario path and is good again.

  • Im pretty sure most people will agree with this Sonic is good again now.

  • Yes, the name Robotnik is much better sounding as a villain name this side of the pond.

  • Sonic Colors and Generations have succeeded in this daunting task, making this episode redundant.

    Entertaining, but redundant nonetheless.

  • How is Megaman Battle Network a pokemon rip off? can someone tell me?

  • @killerhilt2 Because, Megaman is not a Robot, he is a Coputerprogram --> and it is common in the Story/World of MMBN that you send your "Avatar/Programm(or whatever Megaman and his kind are called in this World) to battle the Programs of other kids. It's not about sharing/exchanging these programs, but the Cosmology of these megamangames is more like Pokemon, than it was on other megaman games. There Megaman was also Saving the World, but not as a, you might say "Pet" of a Human Teenager.

  • I rather like that story idea, it would be excellent for a spin-off or new TV series. I wouldn't want to see it replace the regular cannon, but I like it.

I wouldn't want to obliterate the entire cast though, I'd say Blaze is worth keeping around and some of the others have potential. It's just that they tend to be cutscene fodder with sometimes annoying voices.

  • This guy should get a job for Sega!

  • How about a fat sonic mode? The more rings sonic has, the more points/health he has, yet goes slower the more he has. And conflict between health and speed. Makes for more fun game play.

  • Battle Network a Pokémon rip off? Looks legit this guy totally knows what he's talking about.

  • Robotnik is a better bad guy name. Fuck yeah.

  • I think your right with most bob but the cast. I don't think we should kill all of them after all blaze was fun in sonic rush and cream even though you hate her was fun in sonic advance 2 & 3. I would thin the herd by getting ride of the 1s that had no purpose like big and rogue ( aka knuckles in drag ) ,

  • Dude, I can't stress how much I love your ideas! These are incredible. I just don't really like the genocide of the characters, although I would like for maybe 70% of them to go away. But, seriously, these ideas are genius, especially for something you came up with a 3:00 AM. I think that you should work on the Sonic Team.

  • I don't believe they need to kill off any characters. Every other franchise is allowed to have tons of characters, why not Sonic? It's simply how they're used, since Heroes the franchise has had issues with stuffing tons of characters into games that don't add anything to the games.

So only use characters when they have a purpose. Instead of creating new ones bring back some of the old ones, and Sega owns rights to the comic, so why not tie it in with the games? You could do a lot with that.

  • @kingboobs20 The problem is that more than half of the current Sonic cast is either unnecessary or downright useless as far as the Sonic games go.

To justify them means that they would need to do a personality overhaul of nearly all of them (Which would actually be a good thing.)

  • I wonder if Sonic Team actually watched this because Sonic Colors did pretty much everything that was suggested in this video.

  • growing up i played mario and sonic. and the sonic has always been there for me. but when the PS i left him and forgot about him. i was plating with a new hipper crazier dude and if you no who this is im guessing you r 15-to whenever. anyway i left the poor guy in the dust. i fell for it i turned to fps and other shooters im not proud of it. i watched my friends kids play the werehog game and it hurt me to see my once favored character fall so low. he could have done so much more.

  • Comment removed

  • Wait wait wait wait, wait.

Megaman Battle Network is a Pokemon ripoff? Have you ever even played either series Bob? Are you just saying that because of the two versions thing?

One's an action RPG with single character progression but an absurdly large and open attacking system, while the other is a turn based RPG with an absurdly large cast of characters but an extremely restricting, yet deep, attacking system.

They're basically utterly opposite ends of the JRPG.

  • I've never played or seen anything of Sonic really... but damn.. I would play that game.

  • Well, as far as Sonic not having much motivation, according to the storyline from the original series, Sonic started fighting Robotnik because the latter kept kidnapping other animals and using them as Matrix-style bio-batteries for his war machines. Animal cruelty was mostly what got Robotnik on Sonic's hit list in the first place....(continued...)

  • @Sparx1 (...continued)

I think what would make Sonic's story more interesting is if they went deeper into its FIRST concept. The new "Eggman" seems more like a wacky, overly-ambitious megalomaniac than a mad scientist, and there doesn't really seem to be any deeper level to the struggle anymore. Sonic used to have undertones of environmentalism and emphasized the evils of industrialization assimilating nature... Now we just have some cookie-cutter "save the world" story with no substance.

  • I should find sega and email this to them, so they can learn from it to make sonic games that aren't shit

  • After much internal struggle, he learned to do so. He fights for his own reasons and purpose, regardless of whether Sonic agrees or not. If he does, great! Help would be appreciated. But if he doesn't, Sonic better get the f*ck out of the way. I like Shadow because in all the years of Sonic's existence he's one of the few characters that has shown real growth.

Also, it is telling that the *only* modicum of decency in '06 was Shadow's story and MOTHERF***ING MEPHILES THE DARK!!

  • Getting back to Shadow for a moment, I don't quite see why you hate him. He started as a cookie cutter antithesis, but has developed into a character in his own right. He's an immortal creature designed to be a weapon and his nature is to destroy. However, he was nurtured differently, and struggled internally to overcome his destructive instincts to honor his fallen friend.

  • I agree, minus the ire, with @ChipmunkBlake. Every character has a huge following and killing them off like you said would probably be the single stupidest thing SEGA could ever do. This applies in spades to Shadow, who is by most recent count, the second most popular character (1=Sonic, 3=Tails, 4=Eggman/Robotnik, 5=Knuckles). I loathe the fact that so many characters exist too. However, like asbestos, someone once thought they were a good, helpful addition to the structure, but were wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • Man, what's wrong with you? In case you haven't noticed, every sonic character (no exceptions) has tons of fans. Killing any of them off is the shittiest fucking idea I've ever heard. And I for one love Cream and Blaze. So fuck you asshole.

  • sonic colours has a speed boost with a boost gauge that can kill enemies, i wonder if someone in sega saw this

  • NEAR PERFECT backsotry reinvent. Sonic as I have always invisioned him DO IT DO IT DO IT!

If nintendo don't get some proggammers and make ur own fan made game that is perfect!

  • @killtrocity09

If the last few games are any indication, they did.

  • I don't think it's necessary to kill off the whole supporting cast outside the big 5, many of these characters have their fans, so it's an unwise business decision. A better (and less lazy) option would be to actually develop these characters and ONLY use them when the story calls for it, as opposed to the several games that only feature these characters to keep the fans happy.

Just look at Mario, it has a HUGE cast of characters, but they're not in every game, not even the main characters.

  • Dude, You have the answer. The only problem is that Sega does not listen 2 fans apparently. But Awesome video. I wonder if Generations is gonna suck as hard as the speed zones of Unleashed.

  • While I don't likemost of the supporting cast, I like shadow. I don't really know why, but I like him. I've always kind of liked the idea of a shadowy lookalike with an opposite personality. Yes, he could use a vocabulary increase beyond the words revenge, Maria, chaos, and control, a new backstory would be nice too, but don't kill him.

  • I don't think His friends after Adventutr are horrible. Maybe they can be improved also.

  • I absolutely loved sonic when I was a kid, I remember being absolutely addicted to the games and the cartoons. After the age of about 10 I stopped caring as much though.

But you know what? After hearing this idea for a sonic reboot I am genuinely excited about seeing something like this in the future and hoping that Sega listens to this advice.

I used to think Sonic was a badass, he was a loner and watching this video made me realise he can be again, he could even be better.

  • Well, only one thing needs to be done before any of that can be done:

    MAKE SONIC DISAPPEAR!

He needs to just leave for a while. It'll make people be happy to see a reboot.

  • @TheNamelessCharacter

You could say that Sonic Colors was that reboot, and if the series sticks to what that game laid out, no break is necessary. Sega still makes money off their mascot, Sonic fans are happy (save the ones who are flat out impossible to please), even critics are happy, Sonic gets back on track. Oftentimes the best solution is the simplest one.

  • On your topic of time slowing down. Again, two words. Chaos Control.

  • Why not have them make a Mario and Sonic adventure? The Olympics series are kinda boring...

  • wow most of this video is Sonic Colors in a nutshell ._.

  • @carnyzzle yeah most except the story part ahah

  • @aceotaku eh, as much as the story was a little iffy, I did like the script. After all, it was from the writers of Madworld

  • 3d Sonic games seem so sparse. Where are the enemies/items/multiple routes? And yea Nintendo could probably do wonders moving this franchise forward. They seem to have a unique ability to reinvent and expand on old franchises.

  • I'd play that!

  • i like a lot of this, but step two sounds a LOT like daytime stages on sonic unleashed/ sonic colors. basically the new engine. sega really needs to think more radically to bring back sonic, so i like the idea of a reboot. good video man!

  • I think Shadow is just as fixable. The problem with Shadow is he's a highly recycled character. Almost every time he's the anti-hero, he almost ALWAYS has some form of Amnesia. He usually is regretting Maria. and his final act somehow always involves the Space Colony Arc....

I mean....just push him forward a little, instead of repeating the same story over and over and over and over...

  • I would actually buy that Sonic game bob! Yeah Sonics western back story is much darker and far more interesting than the Japanese version.

What the hells with all the Humans in Sonic anyway??

  • ...That plot was actually awesome. I hate Sonic and even *I* would play that!

Man, I swear, Bob looks like the kind of person I would watch being bullied at school but this guy amazes me by the minute with his ideas.

Sorry, I don't mean no disrespect with that comment. What I do mean is that being as shallow as we all can be at some point and watching that picture of Bob dressed up as Mario, I'd think he's just another angry nerd. But man, would I be wrong! This guy is great. So keep it up.

  • I actually like your ideas.....fuck if sega wont do it. I WILL!

  • Be interesting to see a sonic game made by retro studios. They seem to turn everything into gold. Fuck just let nintendo make it completely.

  • I'd quite like to see a game where the graphics are much more watercolour/fairytale book style, none of the characters talk, Robotnik is cast as much more evil and distant. Make it kind of unsettling in the same way Epic Mickey is, still open to kids but there's a constant feeling of "everything's a bit warped".

  • This episode gave me an idea for a fan game. Looks like I'll be spending a while programming a Sonic engine for Game Maker or something less shitty :P

  • 5:38-5:43

    Best idea ever. 8D

  • stumbled part 1, couldn't stop watching. you are right about literally everything, and i'm glad to see you don't have too much disdain for the dreamcast sonic era. besides the stupid other characters (robot, pink hedgehog, even knuckles) the game wasn't bad.

  • yeah kill the cast, but please leave shadow live

  • i want to buy this game

  • i know that in most other episodes, this guy is very accepting of other opinions and tends to bring hard truths, that are true, but his ragging ont he cast is the one time i really just wanna smack him, now i agree that SOME of the cast, is completely stupid (emerl, the babylon rogues, big the cat, vector and charmy) but not all of the cast is as bad as alot of these raging whiners say (shadow and rouge are amoung my favs, as are silver blaze tikal chaos and shade, as well as espio) hypocritical

  • So I watched the first episode of Sonic X in the hopes that it would maybe be half as good as SatAM.

Good news: They canonized the American Freedom-Fighter Sonic interpretation.

Bad news: Episode 1 strips him right out of that scene and sticks him into the Japanese canon.

    So... overall...

    ...

    ...

    I didn't watch episode 2.

  • @asquii season 3 was probably the only unique part to the series, as season 1 was really lame, season 2 was a rehash of the adventure games and a very lose idea on battle, and season 3 had the only interesting sonic X exclusive character ever

  • What's sad is that Shadow actually could've worked as a character (he's remarkably good in, of all places, Super Mario Bros Z), but he's such a classic case of whiny emo angst he's all but destroyed.

A more serious character could have done the series some good though.

  • @teniguafez

Yeah, I don't know what his problem is with SA2, because at least Shadow has the decency to die either heroically or pointlessly at the end. So that's OK!

  • I don't mind the characters all that much(except Big). My main problem is that there are too many characters that haven't been developed enough. Instead Sega adds more, or develops characters wrong(Shadow). Name recent Sonic games that didn't add new characters(before Sonic 4, which had screwed up physics).

Also I don't like the games where Sonic can boost and the gage essentially can't run out. Sonic06, Sonic Unleashed(HD), and Sonic Generation(as I saw from the trailer) had this problem.

  • You have a really good point. When I first heard of Sonic I didn't know HALF of the cast, I only knew Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Sonic. I don't know why they are STILL making characters, but I don't even know where Sonic came from in the first place.

  • I like goofy Jamie Hyneman + Teddy Roosevelt "Eggman" though. I lasted around 150 issues of the Archie series, but as I grew older it became hard to take it seriously when it was taking itself so seriously. I do think Sonic X is too kiddie (here meaning "not dark and edgy like kids like"), but I also think that SatAM is embarrassingly grim for a series about coolkid Mickey Mouse.

I'm a huge weeaboo though, so I pretty much think a Sonic reboot should be Gurren Lagann.

  • there fixing sonic slowly. Colors was good. the voice actors were changed. things are looking up.

  • Sonic Generations appears to be the start of this repair to the Sonic universe. Regarding cast, Metal Sonic should be there (Sonic CD = glory days era). He should be what Shadow tried to.

If they go back to 2.5D like S3&K was, and they follow a real story, something nonexistent until Sonic CD, then the VERY END of Sonic 2 into S3&K, we could have an amazing comeback. This is not what we're getting for 20th Anniversary Sonic, but they are moving in the right direction now, so there's hope again.

  • at the big picture of the entire cast i was all like "who the hell is that guy beside eggman" then i realized it was eggmans fist

  • FUCK ... GIVE this video to ANYONE AT SEGA if they are faking blind ... maybe they do know about it ... so REFRESH THEIR MINDS !!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh you'd LOVE me to not resent you for wanting to get rid of side characters wouldn't you?

  • Shadow isn't an inherently bad idea; he just needs some reworking, a little backstory, and to stop trying to be Vegeta.

  • This is a very great idea. I'd buy this game, and I've decided to stop buying Sonic games, so you really did a good job.

  • Oh sweet, you used an image from Fleetway Sonic! Immediate props for that.

  • Ya know what...

    I'D BUY THIS GAME!!!!

  • Part 1

Mad scientist Nicholas The Hedgehog, and his mutated fox assistant Tails, perform evil experiments on nearby villagers. One of the villagers, Saul The Echidna, has super speed and tries to foil them, but he's outmatched. Eventually the entire village is lost, Nicholas discovers how to give himself speed far greater than Saul's, and he and Tails capture Saul for one final experiment which will remove his soul and place it in a robot named Coals.

  • @handsomebrick

    Part 2

But the experiment goes haywire and removes both Saul's and Nick's souls, leaving no one in control; Saul's soul jumps into Nick's body, and Nick's soul has no choice but to jump into Coals. Both of them attempt to convince Tails that they are Nick; Tails nicknames the real Nick Robot-Nick (Robotnik) and the impostor Saul-Nick (Sonic), by combining their names from each account, but eventually chooses wrong.

  • @handsomebrick

    Part 3

Robot-Nick is forced to flee his laboratory in a flying machine, with Saul-Nick and Tails in hot pursuit. Meanwhile the soulless body of Saul is left behind, imprisoned and confused, with no memories or identity. It is eventually discovered and freed by a traveler named Amy Rose The Hedgehog; she initially assumes from Nicholas' research documents that he is the robot Coals, but eventually realizes she was incorrect and changes his name to Not-Coals (Knuckles).

  • DAMMIT! Why aren't you hired by SONIC TEAM! This is EXACTLY what we want.

  • To my knowledge, what Bob has just described is similar to the STC (sonic the comic) continuity from the mid nineties. Dr Kintobor creates Sonic, the resulting explosion in his lab turns him insane and he becomes Robotnik. His reason for wanting to capture sonic? To undo what he did and return his humanity to himself. Sega? Hire Bob, the man speaks the truth and ultimately the European and American continutity arguably allows for greater depth of story. Geek mode off.

  • @OtherAlex haha Kintobor is Robotnik backwards XD

  • @OtherAlex yeah i think i left comment simular to that ages ago, but yeah it has many simularitys, infact STC is only time that amy rose been not crap, if you watch her early apperances first 100 issues or so, before the lead writer got fired, she amazing.

  • @apex2000 I don't disagree man. Also, the way they handled super sonic was really fucking clever not to mention dark as fuck.

  • @OtherAlex that was my only and favorite comic as a kid :')

  • Personally, I loved the plot of Adventure 2, because it was so hilariously bad. And I like Shadow, but I tend to like characters that are made to be totally cool, and think they are, but just really are not.

I still wouldn't play his games, because they suck, but with similar gameplay to Battle, a dramatic storyline about an anti-hero hedgehog that's terribly dramatic and "deep"?

    I'd play it.

  • @Lukkilikka do you mean the story or the game play i like the game play and the story is probably the closest to being good the camra is still shit expechialy the 2nd to last boss

  • @bigal2k643

Are you talking about Shadow the Hedgehog, as in the game?

I'll probably get it anyway at some point, if I can find it in a bargain-bin.

  • @Lukkilikka um no not shadow the hedge hog i was takkig about adventure 2 i guess you were talking about its spinoff that i will not mention

  • @bigal2k643

Adventure 2 I liked. The gameplay was either good or ok depending on the character. And the plot was entertaining.

Shadow the hedgehog-game I'd like to play kinda because it's bad, but I'm not going to pay much for that.

  • I agree with the reboot of the Sonic franchise done in that way, the cast I don't really care about if they stay or go really but yeah, there is no point over complecating a sonic game all you need is at most 2 or 3 buttons, jump/homing, slide and boost, 'nuff said.

  • Running on Water is now in Sonic Colors

  • Personally, I've never had a problem with the majority of Sonic's cast. Then again, I can accept alot of oddness.....nonetheless, Sonic himself does need more chracterization and such....

  • How to make Sonic awesome.

Step 1: Look back at the GCN games and only the Sonic/Shadow parts.

    The End.

  • Sonic DOESN'T need to be saved. He sucked back then and he sucks WAAAAY more now. And the super saiyan rip off thing is just sad.

  • I agree with all of your points, Mr. Bob, including the one with the characters, but there has been a game that sorta put your complaints #3 and #4 into a great shape. Sonic Battle - it's a fighting game for the GBA, and while the gameplay was so-so, its plotline was probably the best thing I have ever seen in a Sonic game. All the characters had a spotlight and have been fleshed out and really made the cast look colorful.

It's still quite sad that there hasn't been a plot as good as Battle...

  • I never really liked Sonic, but you know, if they ever did do that "Robotnik kills everyone" story, I just might pick start playing the franchise...

  • Unless I'm mistaken, in comic series aptly titled 'Sonic the Comic', Sonic was indeed Dr. Robotnik's experiment in a backstory issue. More precisely, he developed his sneakers. I think Robotnik was even a friend to Sonic, possibly a kind of father figure. I don't remember what got up his nose to become the super villain we know him to be, I must have been 6 or 7 years old at the time!

  • What do you think of the episodic releases of Sonic now-a-days?

  • Use something like those missiles that chase you in Super Mario Galaxy, but make them much faster so you'll have to be at top speed to stay ahead of them and bring them all the way to the target.

  • I think recently Sonic has kind of gone through both mario and megaman paths...sort of...with sonic 4...though it would be nice if they didn't release only PART of the game for $15...also like I commented on the last video, sonic colors is supposedly good, even if people look for reasons to hate it by saying it rips off super mario galaxy with the power ups...

  • Great idea, one addition: Sonic=experiment 1, failed. Experiment 2, another hedgehog, a more aggresive, dark hedgehog...

    Dammit Bob, Shadow stays!

Cream can die in a lake of fire.

  • To be honest, I've never been a fan of Sonic games, but the game you described? I'm already sold. If that was actually available on shelves, i would buy it in a heartbeat and love the shit out of it. That sounds like one hell of a compelling game.

  • I do wonder what Sonic would be like, if Shadow has stayed dead, I mean really, was he that bad in SA2? Knuckles was no longer the anti-hero and Shadow filled that gap, he had a pretty deep story which ultimately lead to his demise.

Maybe he'd have became the E-102 of that series, Sure E-102 was "revived" in one game I think, but the point is he as the self died (though he was really just a bird). Sadly none of that happened, because no one could keep Sonic interesting and leave him dead.

  • Yeah, I don't really care about the supporting cast at all. Ditch them if it will help save the franchise.

I've been a Sonic fan for most of my life. When I was a kid, Sonic was the first comic I read, and I proceeded to collect them for years after. Watched the shows, played the games, yadda yadda yadda. I would LOVE to see Sonic game that follows a story like the one you suggested, using gameplay elements like the ones you suggested.

  • Though I agree your ideas are good, almost everything you recommended for "find a new purpose for speed" was already used in sonic unleashed, and though it would be nice to know those things you mentioned about sonic's personality and character, note that mario doesn't have ANY of that!

  • I had some ideas like the mario one that u said

  • You know, I think the guys at Sonic team took your advice because a lot of what you said came to pass in 2010. We got Sonic 4, which took the "megaman path" and Colors, which took the "Mario path." They've also been phasing out most of the cast, limiting them to cameo appearances in the DS version of colors. Of course there are still hiccups, like Free Riders, but I think this franchise is truly on the mend.

  • Well done. Or give the rights to someone who can revive Sonic.

  • has anyone sent this to Sega? Someone should...

  • Sonic's super speed could be explained in other ways, like getting granted the power by some benevolent whatever and quested to destroy evil or something (like the opposite of Ghost Rider), but Sonic rebels against being bound even though he'd do good anyway creating internal conflict he needs to resolve before he can embrace society...

Or maybe he can't cause he's an abberation. Sonic was born super-fast, and that caused too much chaos in the village and so he was exiled as a child... : O

  • Ya, that Sonic story was actually pretty good, but scrap the Robotnik/Sonic backstory which is just Weapon X, or would seem to be (why would Robotnik cover his animal experiments in heavy steel casings of war, rather than the robot-less genetic refurbishing of Sonic? If he made Sonic, has he made more? (Spider-Man, man!) Will you make your own crappy cast of characters?)

Scrap that, and you've got a loner who'll be the people's hero alongside Knuckles, persuaded by the debt he owes the two.

  • DUDE strtegic speed water runing and SONIC TIME your a mothafuckin genius I hope a game (doesn't necasaraly have to be sonic but a game with the elements), and I hope a some how a lot of vaginas (attached to women) decide to reward your genius

  • I had an idea for some time. How bout Robotnik robotizes Angel Island to use the Master Emerald and turn it into, I don't know, a weapon, capable of robotizing the entire world so that he can rule it. Not original, but a thought.

  • I like your plot idea maybe bring in sally for a (cliche) love triangle thing with amy and sonic (BUT NO ONE ELSE) every fight needs a leader after all.

sonics not the leader type who better than the princess just take some ques from zelda kay?.

other than that I agree only sonic tails knuckles and ROBOTNIK (I allways liked tails I was allways player 2 to my brother and he really shined in the first sonic adventure game needs a better voice actor though).

  • Speedruns are totally compatible with 3D gaming, and I'd love to see a 3D game which is designed for speedruns from the ground up.

  • @DavidTheCatMedia like mirror's edge?

  • @angerywombat Yeah, that is one example I had in mind. Another example is DeFRaG.

  • That super speed state has been around since the rush games...and now unleashed (daytime) and colors

  • I like your story reboot ideas. Sonic The Comic in the UK had yet another different storyline where ideas could be taken from.

  • In Sonic 2 for the Master System he can walk on water when going fast enough.

  • Make Sonic Robotnik's illegitimate son...confuse the fuck out of everybody

  • @ThatDaveDude1 this is so awesome I just cannot read it without picturing advice dog
