  • Man, seems like John never plays his songs the same way twice. Good shit JM & DRH.

  • When John is ill, you can hear his guitar is sick too. CAUSE IT SOUNDS LEGENDAIRY!

  • Must have been his in ear microphone. Check out 2:08 hes giving eye contact to the sound engineer. The moment you go falsetto you have trouble figuring out if you´re on the right track when you dont have monitoring...hence, i dont think hes in a bad form (hes singing the chest voice pretty good), yet he surely got drunk the night before. Peace and love

  • both john and david ryan harris seem to sing out of tune in this. that's pretty unusual so i'm thinking there was maybe a problem with their feedback and they couldn't hear themselves properly...?

  • Does anyone knows what pedal he uses when he starts the solo at 5:33 untill the end, like he usually does in his other live videos?

  • this is the first concert he played since starting to record battle studies. so i think he did fucking good for his first concert in months

  • 2:53 No one realized that David Ryan Harris fucked up with his falsetto?

  • @JusticieroDeLaMuerte He certainly did. That was som wacked up shit.

  • He is always fluent at playing but seems that sometimes struggles at singing.

  • his guitar playing is always flawless though

  • Thanks god he fired the backing singers and got back the horns

  • Not the best vocal performance that night but still JM great great great.

  • wow, Ryan Harris is amazing

  • Sweeeeet :D

  • Harmonizing with the guitar? AWESOME!

  • What effect is he using to get the tone on the intro riff? I NEED to know!

  • @TheMarkHoppus182 autowah with tone @ 0?

  • @TheMarkHoppus182 Its a Roger Linn Adrenalinn III on the envelope filter setting i believe. Expensive pedal but sounds great.

  • @TheMarkHoppus182 its like an organ simulator pedal, he talks about it in one of his videos about recording i'm pretty sure someone made i for him i mean.. he literally has boxes of pedals hahah

  • @JamesCornelisonMusic that aint true, its just a Roger Linn Adrenalinn pedal...

its just a sort of autowah

  • @FreaquedeMusique thats true

  • @JamesCornelisonMusic i believe it's a roger linn adrenalinn pedal preset. the one you're talking about is used on in repair as i recall

  • @JamesCornelisonMusic

    It's a called a POG.

  • @MarcusTheMadLad No , the POG is used in the song in repair, like an organ

  • @Vectormediareactor

The POG isn't only used for the sound of an organ.

  • the truth is that john mayer plays exactly what i want to hear....that makes him one of the best guitar players i've ever heard (in my opinion) there are not standard best guitar players, there are different styles and whatevers, just people that can make goosebumps to higher or lower quantities of people...

  • What a performance , theres not a single version of this song that isnt awesome . whether you have the horns , Backup singers, or a differrent Intro or solo his performance is epic .

  • Can you get a more funky tune then this..?

  • I like all the songs at this concert...especially "Perfectly Loney"....he is one the musician will remember for generations....

  • The best guitarist of our generation! His versatility is unmatched by anyone. Most of the greats have limited styles but not JM!

  • other than John and David Ryan Harris, i don't care for this touring group. his pre- Battle studies band was so much tighter

  • @20000564 Absolutely everyone thinks like that. And it's true. The Background singer are annoying, the horns were great. The song's not the same without the horns...

  • @20000564 did you see him live, like not on youtube but live? cause that band is fucking tight! i agree everyone sounds a little off here, but ive seen him in london and vegas, and FUCK they were tight as hell ;)

  • Good news everyone! The backup singers are out, and the horns are back in! THANK GOODNESS!!!

  • david ryan harris f'd up his part :SS too bad cause usually he's awesome

  • Continuum songs will forever rock my heart. But Battle Studies gave me a heart attack.

  • musical genius

  • definetely a genius.. cant wait to see him in pheonix .. JM rocks

  • @jgabbert1279 i live in phoenix do you know when he is coming?

  • 2:52 i lold

  • the black one is out!

  • @daliksheppy fucking lies.

    ARE YOU SERIOUS ?

  • @MuneebAtherMusic what? lawl

  • @daliksheppy the black ones out ?

    thats a lie ,

its coming out in june .

  • @MuneebAtherMusic Oh. yeah i know id love one but theyre gunna be damn expensive. i meant that he was playing the black one. he seems to play it less and less

  • @daliksheppy yeah same here man.

they have made the prototype already ..

    andand

    i know .

its because of his new album battle studies ,

he went towards california rock ,

personally i think the genre of continuum suited him

SLOW DANCING IN A BURNING ROOM !

    ahah .

    the black one (LLL)

  • @daliksheppy its just some particular songs that he plays is like he always plays it with belief!!

  • I think he sings quite well at this concert except for "Free Fallin" but, come on, everyone can have a bad day! Mayer's one of the most amazing musicians of our times, let's appreciate his music

  • With people commenting on his voice, you have to remember, he did a show the night before this in Brooklyn. He may even did a show the night before that, im not sure on that though. Combined with the fact he wasnt feeling well. Still though I dont think it sounds bad at all

  • I disagree.

  • they played this one slower than usual.... maybe that's why it sounds a lil off?

  • his backing singers are awful.

  • it should have just been robbie and drh.. not those shit singers

  • @XnonnyX im pretty sure they've turned down the back ups...they are garbage in this

  • go david ryan =)

  • hated his vocals in this song!

  • am i the only one who's not hearing that crappy out of tuned singing?

  • he had the flu

  • @pankake63 well congratulations sir. We're all very proud of you as I'm sure your parents are. Do you realize how arrogant you sounded by saying that? lol wow

  • Does anyone else see the resemblances in the guitar part that starts at 5:40-somethings, till 6:40 with the solo from Belief?

  • yep.. he was in that kina grove .. especially with those slides @ 6:16 ...

  • he's really trying to shake it off but it won't budge

  • its the sound there guys he knows it. its nothing he can do at this point . it gets better through the show. its not his fault!! look around 1:38-1:40 he rolls his eyes, then 2:07 he gives a complete "no" head shake!!

  • His vocals seem a tad shakier than usual, but I'm sure that it's just a bad day. I will also say that it is astounding to see how much more mature his guitar-playing sounds compared even from as early as Where the Light Is.

  • Im a big Mayer fan, but what the hell has happened to his voice, its all over the place!

  • A lot of it has to do with that WTLI (Which is what I'm assuming you are basing this comment on) is a completely mixed/remastered/studio edited show, whereas this show is completely live soundwise. That being said, his voice is sounding a bit subpar, but I'm sure he'll bring it back around. It's been a while since he's been on the road. He sounded great on all the shows I've seen him play.

  • It seems that they're having sound problems because you can hear a lot of notes out of tune. The voices aren't fixed very well at all...

  • So, what is it? Is John just having a bad night or are it the sound problems? The Letterman Show is better btw.

  • I agree, David Ryan Harris should do the back up vocals because his voice is amazing :D and the horns should be back too, they sound great on this track

  • John, please hire me. I´d kill to be in your band. I´ll even play tambourine if needed.

  • Best version o this song i´ve heard...Flawless.

  • another great version of this song is on the Where The Light Is DVD, even better in my opinion ;)

  • @k2snake where the light is has the best version of every song.....

  • that's true : )

  • You said it:)

  • @TheDVDGamer You have to check his concert at Webster Hall, NY. Then maybe you change your opinion :)

  • It´s definitely a better solo than on WTLI.

  • If you like this, you should definitely check out From Where The Light is version, if you already haven't.

  • does anyone know what kind of pedal is he getting that sound out of?

    It sounds like an organ.

  • Envelope Filters. Youtube them

  • Lose the Synths and bring the horn section!!

  • the tempo is a bit slower ..

  • your point?

  • i dont have a point .. im just stating a fact

  • DRH... SOOOOO SMOOTH

  • his band current formation is superb!

  • David Ryan Harris....AMAZING!!!

  • btw his voice sounds off because his main feed to himself is so loud he can't hear himself you idiot! that's what was wrong.

  • some of yall are fucking tone deaf

  • DAVID RYAN HARRIS MY BOY!

  • that break down is so sick!

awesome job and david ryan harris has the voice of an angel

  • 02:08 he is not happy...

  • agreed

  • wow you are an idiot. Half his band is black. Should he not hire them either dumbass

  • i was surprised. I LOVE this song and he's ALWAYS in tune but at the start of this song he was singing out of key. I think that's why he put his other inear back in. He was getting a tad out key in vultures too. But I don't really care John's still amazing. And I love David Harris as well. He should REALLY ditch those girls

  • @Zack8133 i watched the whole concert. and for the first probably 6 songs, he couldn't find his tone or voice. but once he found it, he killed it.

  • I don't care for the ladies singing in the back. Leave the back up vocals to the great David Ryan Harris.

  • amen dude i'm saying the same thing those bitches were fuckin up

  • Comment removed

  • @andrewguitar67

    true that!

  • his best song to date, imo

  • Awesum playin' like always :D

  • What I love about John is that he is as organic as you can get. Real ! ! ! No auto tune. He's not a machine he's a real person and real people are not perfect everytime. They grow, change, and evolve. The difference is he is sharing with us.......look at yourself. What were you into 5 years ago? What are you into now? .....Keep growing John. Real fans will grow with you.

  • im a huge jm fan, although i dont really like his new stuff, it'll grow on me. and if he came out with the same stuff, we would be complaining that it sounds the same. that is what makes him, his sense of always wanting to change how we classify him. thats why i love his music

  • yeah, he was off on this. nevermind. I never really liked this song anyway. do in repair

  • they played for 2 hours last night... from what i can remember JM played. "No Such Thing" "Bigger Than My Body" "Waiting on the World to Change" "Daughters" "Friends, Lovers, or Nothing" "Why Georgia" "Half Of My Heart" "Who Says" "Gravity" "Free Fallin" in no order.. thats all i can remember for now. ha
  • they only played 5 songs?

  • I have been trying to decipher what the face at 2:08 means after he says 'when it rains..'

  • Probably frustrated over that his voice isn't working properly. He seems sick or something.

  • Could be a sign of frustration yea, as TG182 says.

  • i think he was sick last night. i'm a huge john fan and i'm really hoping that was the problem. last night's show (and battle studies as a whole) are disappointing...at best. for some reason he seems to be moving further away from what made us love him in the first place. even he has said that he's a guitarist first and a musician second, but that just doesn't seem to be the case with the new cuts. thank god he redeemed himself (as always) with gravity at the end of the set

  • agreed, he can't guitar enough. it's his identity and should be. i think he knows that, but tries to expand nevertheless. i respect that, but man i would love to see a straight guitar album just once, or perhaps another trio album.

  • Amen. Another Trio album is all I'd need.

Hopefully the money he makes from this pop album will go towards funding another JM3 project.

  • Didn't you hear the guitar mistake?

  • hes a perfectionist.. he missed a fret for just a sec and he was pissed..

  • me too. looks like something want wrong, but i can't figure out what.
