is it possible to combine a front flip with an axe kick? would the momentum of the flip combined with the axe kick do a lot of damage? (just curious i dont want to try it though)
i've noticed, with any raising kicks such as simple stretching front rising kicks, crescent kicks and axe kicks, once my leg is up, on the downward motion, i can feel some sort of.. hard to describe, but scraping of my hip bones. for example, when doing an axe kick with my right leg, on the way down, i feel a clicking/scraping of the side of my hip.. i'm not sure exactly what part, but its the bone and it happens on both sides.. have you ever had this issue before?
@NoFatChicks2013 Both are. One is a sport variation, the other a formal variation. I teach the formal, which is the one designed for power (specifically for breaking solid bricks and boards).
They never taught us to slightly bend the knee at my kickboxing class. Once when I was practicing at home I thought it should be safer and more powerful to bend the knee. Was happy I thought of that cause a lot of the students hurt their knees during class but mine were safe :)
what was the cresant kick even used for? was it to hit somebody's hands so their guard is down or like to hit a knife or weapon out of their hand? someone please tell me
some nice points mentioned! I did not realize the danger of the classic style (heel = farest point from the centre of the body)
About the crescent kicks (inside-out, outside-in): they are pretty good for defense. You can deflect straight punches as an example. I am not sure if they best choice in actual full contact fights / mma.
This vid was way more useful that I expected. You actually used 11 minutes and didn't really waste any of my time. Well done! Great knowledge of old-style and modern foot positions. Good sense of humor too. Nice vid.
Axe kick may look flashy and risky kick, but if you use it at a correct timing and correct place, it will be fatal like using a hammer to slam on the head.
Would you actually use this in a fight (sparring or RL fight), cause it looks like a very risky and flashy kick. What are you thoughts on the applications of this kick?
@mansondevil33 Watch the video response. Also do a search on Cyrus Washington and Andy Hug and watch their highlights. You'll see the axe kick at work in the ring.
@kwonkicker It works, it depends on the person, but I dont think its a kick you would want to throw in at the start, more like when the opponent is exhausted or hurt
@mansondevil33 : this is very useful when you are circling backward around your opponent so you can suddenly turn and throw it using your torso. the other advantage is that it rises like other kicks, but is delivered on the downstroke so the timing throws them off and they block too soon. Realistically, ANY kick that you spin, jump, or lifet above the waist is very hazardous (tenant of Wing Chun). Which is both the strength and weakness of TKD. Practice and flexibility make this work.
does kick help (power wise) if u are taller? cuz since im a big and not that fast i want to put my strength and size into use. What's ur opinion/suggestion?
@RhadeConstantine u think, i did a axe kick on a ground opponent a few time, one in a real fight, in one just sparing, and when i did it they wasnt the same anymore, and i was like o my god becouse when i hit them with the axe kick when they on the ground i can feel the power of the impack tho there body in from that u can tell something is up. usally they crunch forword with there arms over there body and useally dont want to fight anymore but if they do they r still recovering from the hit.
@Revonify i dont like to talk about fights that happin so dont get the worg idea that im a volant person im just sayin in my time when i did it that what happin.
for all those you have a great flexibility and can kick very heigh .. i want to kick higher and is side splitt the best ? .. i have done all the others but it havent helped me that much .. please write back to me in my inbox
bro i dont live around you but if i were you i would try and become a trainer and when you have enough money open your own gym and age as a amazing teacher, you have everything to do so, and i would love to see you take your skills to make yourself a respected teacher and wealthy man
damnit, i used to be pretty flexible, im less now, teenage years kicked in, i discovered something called a Playstation :P, u got any tips on how i can regain my flexibility?
Defensive push kicks arn't suppose to do damage, they are suppose to PUSH you off balance and keep the person away from you. In other words, he's saying if you're on one leg, and someone push kicks you, you're gonna fall down, not die lol
Once while I was practicing this kick my big toe hit the ground while I was lifting. There was no permanent damage but I couldn't walk on it for a week.
Question - Would it be a good idea to glance off someone's arm on the way up? Would that sell the fake more, or would it tip them off if they feel the glance, or would it slow you down too much?
I think you're going a bit too harsh with crescent kicks, they may not be the best kicks in a fighting situation but they're an excellent exercise and it's very hard to learn harder kicks without learning them. Just an opinion.
This is the first kick i learned i found it hard at first but the when i started stretching i can do it really high and nows its really simple great tutorial as always thumbs up
@mitokhandria That is preference. You get more flexibility and range of motion out of the kick when you are up on your toes, making your kick stronger. But, if you come up off the ground too far, then the contact area your foot has will the ground is much smaller, making it easier to slip or to get knocked down if hit with a strong kick.

@kwonkicker Also when you're up on your toes you can rotate your supporting leg easier than if you entire foot is in contact with the ground.
