I'm taking my PARE in less then a week. I've built sort of a PARE mockup at the park near my place and I'm in generally good shape... Still I'm nervous as hell.
The fitness test to get into the RCMP is the lowest standard in the entire country. Apply yourself for 4 min and you are done. There is no mile and a half run no pull ups no push ups nothing. The PARE is hard but it is only 4 min of pain max. A few fail but most make it.
When I was in my mid 30's, weighing around 185 lbs I did the PARE twice. First time in 2:48, and a year later in 2:51. I believe my sports background in wrestling helped a lot. Was going through a credenza and found my PARE results today, lol. Btw, my brother is a mountie but I became a fireman instead. Good luck to all applicants.
Good over all! I did my initial PARE at that same location as well. You need work on the push/pull station though otherwise you are going to get eaten alive at DEPOT, lol. The only benefit to getting below 3:00 is at DEPOT you'll get a Superior status mark for PT.
@omid2002omid is ranges from troop to troop. Some people get home sick, some people fail out. Over all you're probably looking at about a 90% success rate as an average. Mind you having said that, I have seen a full troop graduate as well as another troop missing 9 people.
@omid2002omid You're welcome! Once you get into a routine at DEPOT you'll be fine. The best advice a buddy gave me before I attended DEPOT was "be the grey man"......until test days that is! You form some life long friendships at DEPOT. Not everyone will always get along, after all you are taking 32 people and sticking them together for 6 months after all....so there are bound to be some hiccups.
Are you nearing the end of the application process or departing soon?
@Crokin80 hey man i have a question for you.. im thinking about the rcmp as well..how long does the whole process take?? as in the whole process up until getting the call for depot? thanks
@SundinOwnsYou Hey! You can expect from around 6-12 months. However, like any process gov't related there are no absolute time frames. I've heard of people qualifying for DEPOT in as quick as 4-5 months and as long as 1 1/2 years. It was around 10-11 months for me. As soon as you get have to do anything, I suggest just quickly finish the task and submit it. At the info session you should be able to check for available upcoming test dates and schedule to write your RPAT and such!
@Crokin80 thanks for the reply! honeslty though i am stuck between going to law school or the rcmp...i have the marks for law school but the rcmp has a different appeal..money wise, lawyer will probably be better but the rcmp make good money too i heard?
@SundinOwnsYou Both avenues offer their share of rewards and challenges. The RCMP can take you all over Canada, and introduces you to frontline policing. So, if you are looking to stay around where you are, you probably wouldn't be able to do so with the RCMP. There's a graduated pay scale (probationary period), which a member can hope to achieve with in their first 3 years. The payscale is available on website.
@SundinOwnsYou When I attended the info session, there were available testing dates a couple of weeks later. One thing for sure is you must be patient.
@Crokin80 I am curious is this part of the application process? you do this to get into the RCMP or are you accepted before this and then do the test?
@mouse746 The PARE is part of the application process at about the 4th/5th stage depends on how you look at it. Mind you you only have to achieve under 4:45 pre-DEPOT, and sub 4 at DEPOT.
@100089295... Thanx for the answer. Meanwhile I had an opportunity to talk the fitness instructor of a municipal police department. Their running test and physical abilities test is vERY similar to PARE. I was told that finishing under the required time is the priority. BUT If participant can make an amazing timing then , he/she should do it as, if in other stages of selection process similar results are taken then the advantage in good timing in PARE will make sure you are the one to be chosen.
Hello. I'm running my PARE on April 7. Is it just the obstacle course and then the push pull? I'm doing p90x right now. I think i will be well prepared for it.
to add on... as a smaller built guy i find the final parts of the test are harder for me as body mass helps a great deal.
Be warned, this guy was cheating on the "pull" portion at the end. you have to squat (to 45 degrees) and sidestep instead of simply leaning and walking, in some instances they will simply fail you and tell you to leave until you can follow instructions.
@omid2002omid hmm thats weird well in Ontario atleast we did exactly as you, except the pull we had to sidestep and keep our elbows and knees at 45 degrees which makes it SO much harder. I thought he told you to sidestep at 3:35 (which you do for about 3 steps) which is why i mentioned it!
after the pull part we do an additional section involving i cant remember either a dummy pull or a cuffing machine, they dont seem to utilize either of them.
@100089295 i have 1 month to get myself ready , cause its been more than 6 months from my previous one !!! do you have any videos of this "new" PARE test?
@omid2002omid its the exact same thing as this one, some differences possibly but nothing you can prepare for. just raise your overall fitness level. this is absolutely a cardio battle!
PARE test isnt as easy as it looks lol, I underestimated it and went full out right away by the forth lap it felt like battery acid was pumping through my veins lol. I got through it with a 4.12 time and it was my first time doing it. My advice to anyone that is going to do and never have before is that when you train for this just dont do jogging. Mix in some excercises that involve jumping and find stairs to run up because jogging alone didnt prepare me right for what is involed in this test.
man i did this shit, i got 4.10 still a pass. over 4.25 is fail. it looks easy but its not. i never trained for it, but if u do train for it, it should be no problem.
@omid2002omid Omid jan, thats good bro. thats all u need to pass the test. i don't think the timing matters, as long as u finish it under 4.25 thats what they care about. when i went to give my pare test, there were 28 people and half of them failed before!! yes half of them, so it was their second time. i was shocked myself!! just try not to fail, bad impression. these video on youtube is exactly what u do in pare test. so practice those in gym.
hey everyone. Im just wondering.... finishing pare around 3 min or even faster would give ANY advantage or just passing the test is enough? I know that selection process has many stages. So finishing pare under 3 min would give any advantage as in any other stage an average result would not give a positive impresiion. Afrter all this is a competition and best candidates will be chosen. So a very fast timing in pare can be better or not? Any answer is appreciated... Thanx :)
@sydneyboi4fun kind of answered your own question.... this test is quite easy for people who are even slightly athletically inclined. In my class of 22 only 3 of us finished under 3 min however another 10 finished under 3:30...
It looks better but if your a complete idiot a time of even two minuites wont help you.
The only thing that matters during this is your cardio and endurance. Don't even worry about weight training because everyone who jerks off can do it.
I had 3:35 the first time I ran it and I didn't exercise prior to it at all. I was out of breath big time and the other thing that also sucked for me is that I was that my turn was like 58th out of 60 people so by the time I had to run I had a bad headache.
i did my pare today..i got penalties on my time on the push/pull .. the supervisor wasnt really fair with all the cadets.. i did 3:40.. i know i can do it under 3:30
Nice work they had the test set up at my bros grad I was getting 25 sec laps with dress cloths on the only thing I couldn't do was the push pull the instructors had 145 and I weigh 125 the RCMP is my future job
I went to the RCMP presentation in April in London and they said max time is 4 minutes 45 seconds to pass for rookies but experienced officers is 4 minutes flat
what is the maximum time for this test before you fail....????? is it 4:00? i am just curious because i am going to the information session march 3rd and from there i guess i'll start my testing after that at some point...i'm nervous but excited
