You're right, but A lot of beginners do surf there when there isn't a storm. During a storm when the waves are the largest, there is usually a lot of debris in the water not to mention the chance of being carried up on the rocks by large waves.
@CoreyL11 its actually a very nice place to surf/body board... concidered a begginer level beach when weather is permitting.... went there today in fact :)
I was down there on the 24th and 25th and again got some pretty good video. The waves didn't seem quite as large as when I was there last November but it sure was worth it being there. Love these Washington storms!!
@MadelineWoe actually the surf wasn't so bad on that storm since it came out of the Northeast instead of the usual SW. It was still stirred up but the waves didn't stack up so high.
I listen to the Weather radio. High surf warning was unique. It was a storm out of the Gulf ofAlaska producing 25 foot waves. On Saturday morning the coastal bouys were reporting that there were 20 waves af 15 second intervals. The surf at the beach was angry but the waves were normal size at about 5 to 8 feet in size. I think most of the big waves break 1/4 to 1/2 a mile out. Sarching for a beach that is steep enough to break the waves close to shore. Maybe Cape Disappointment will work.
I tried to capture similar video but I was 24 hours too late. I was working on Friday. I went to the coast from Seattle at 4 a.m. on Saturday. I am glad you captured the video I wanted to. It shows you the power of YouTube. If someone does not capture the video you want, someone else might. I have found several cliff spots that would make watching big waves safer.
A couple of times I thought I might have to move back. The reason I included the wave rush that carried all the logs and debris onto the beach was to show just how fast that stuff moves and should be a warning for people to stay off the beach when there is heavy surf. I don't think many if any people could outrun that stuff. Thanks for watching the video.
Yes, there were 4 Coast Guard boats out in the heavy waves practicing rough water boat handling. Cape Disappointment and the Columbia River Bar are the two main practice areas for all of the Coast Guard. They are very brave men and women. The area they are in is called "The Graveyard of the Pacific" for the large number of ships that have went down. Thanks for viewing my video.

I had to leave about an hour before high tide so I don't know how much larger the waves might have gotten. Thanks for viewing the video. Joe
