In the Judeo Christian world women are not stoned but that doesn't mean that they are not treated as second class human beings. Catholic church for example have a very clear position about the place of the women always inferior to men and to satisfy and serve men(Here we do not punish with stones but there are plenty of social stigma). This movie was very tragic. I was horrified when they stoned an innocent woman, because of the lies of her lust driven husband, who was tired of her, and wanted to marry a younger woman. She gave him 9 children; 2 were stillborn, left with 7 children, although in the movie she only had 4 children.

At the risk of entering into an arguement that I really don't want to be in I will say this. Regardless of what religion you follow, all religious books were written many years ago by man, have been retranslated time and time again (therefore not able to keep the origianal meaning) and religious leaders have admitted that chapters of the Bible (at least) were left out and some of the existing chapters edited. Its just a modern day witch hunt. It's sick no matter who does it.

Read the Quran Surah (Chapter) Al Nur 24:1-10 Chapter 24, verses 1-10. No stoning. It is only cultural where it is based on. It is true that it is mentioned in the quran to stone a person who commits adultery. However, its not that simple. There must be atleast 2 witnesses of the crime. More, the 2 witnesses must ultimately see the genitals of the male and the female and that adultery is commited. The crime can not be taken out based on accusations. Everybody has done something which wasn't right, though some sins are worse than others, in my eyes. I think it says that all sins are equally to each other in God's eyes somewhere, but I think that some sins are worse. Killing someone is of course worse than for example lying to save your friend.

We have some of the biggest religious nutcases in the World here. Stonings are not "popular" but they happen as do many atrocities in our country. Have you ever seen a person electrocuted or gassed? @fdosdesign Can't comment on all of them,but I do observe Judaism everyday and I really don't think it changed too much.I guess I should be grateful that stoning is not a legit punishment anymore...But then again if you'll drive through an orthodox neighborhood in Jerusalem on a sabbath,there's a good chance you'll have some rocks flying your way.And for the history part,probably won't happen in our life time,maybe in a distant future,when we'll be discussing it with members of some alien race:)

Ah not the Aliens! Of course the hardcore probably still believe that this Planet is the centre of the universe and that the sun revolves around it (Poor old Galileo suffering at the hands of the ignorant) Gladly some have moved on and embraced at least some science (When it suits them!).
Well I guess the church of Rome is no longer burning at the Stake and determining guilt if someone floats or not!

@Miriada87 Really?? When was the last Christian,Hindu, Pagan or Jew that tried to kill innocent women and children via suicide bomber?? I have done a lot of reading, especially history, want to answer me why Constantinople is now called Istanbul?? Look into history with an open mind and maybe you will find a whole new level of appreciation for the country that has fed clothed and protected you and yours.
