I like this song alot, I liked the whole country album. It seems to me that when you think of Annette you automatically think of Vince Smith, who recorded her tribute song "My Annette", both great singers.
I dont think her voice was suited for country. She could do Pop, maybe. I think country requires a bit more something... authenticity or something. But nice try !
I agree that her voice is a little jacked up on this album, however, I kind of enjoy it. It adds an honesty and in a poetic way shows her life in perspective, especially when you look back at all of it now. Plus her voice was never really that amazing. I think, at least for me, what makes her songs enjoyable besides the light hearted nature of them and being able to associate them with what today looks like a better time is that it's just pure and simple Annette singing them.
As much as I like Annette, this LP -- which according to some sources her husband Glen Holt was heavily involved in producing -- is not among her better efforts. That's less due to the material and more due to the performance; across the whole album, Annettes once beautiful timbre has mysteriously disappeared, replaced with a scratchy, sometimes tired and often out of tune voice. Frankly, it's not clear why she made the album (she mentions it but never addresses "why" in her autobiography).
Does anyone know if the LP record has been transfered over to CD yet? I'd love to have it!! Annette hardly made any recordings during her come back in the 80's

She did a very good job on this country song associated with The Carpenters ~ ANNETTE really should have recorded more than she did.
This is from her Country Album on the Starview
Label ~ I like the music arrangement on it.
