  • imagine how happy the green make-up factory was when they invented this musical :p

  • Idina's the best

  • I recently went to see this with my performing arts class and while it wasn't Idina and Kristen, it was freaking AMAZING. Completely beautiful, I actually cried, I was so happy.

  • I prefer Dee Roscioli to be honest. I think Idina has a great voice and all, I just prefer Dee for her vocals.

  • I am crying. This song is so beautiful.

  • omg very beautiful song

  • at 5:10 she signals for her inhaler with her hand but she still has a AMAZING performance

  • get on

    what!??

  • @captainfranhughes if she was having an asthma attack, she wouldnt be belting as loud as she does. shes gaspin to get the power in her vocals out. i do the same thing and i dont have asthma

  • idina is flawless.. pure perfection, her and kristin make a perfect combo!

  • I went to the show while they were still on stage and I wouldn't know about the true greatness till about 8 years later?

I feel bless...seeing this show (my first broadway show) inspired my dream of being an actress and my love of theatre.

  • 3!!!

  • So amazing!!!!!

  • the best idina and Kristin i love them!

  • She was upposed to fly not become so huge! Haha i still love it though!!

  • was she really having an asthma attack??

  • Why is she so big at the end?

  • its sooo cool at the end how shes really big!

  • @RGiffney

? You mean when she's flying?

  • I absolutely love both of these women. I've seen Idina perform live 4 times and I honestly think she sounds so much better in person. I enjoy listening to recordings of her too, but there's really nothing like seeing her live. I would say that of all the performers I have seen (which is a lot), she is the one that makes me feel the most fulfilled and inspired while watching her.

  • Do people pay money to see this?

  • @penelope0427 those who appreciate the arts...why yes they do!

  • even though she's having an asthma attack, you can't really tell, because her gasps and coughs add emphasis to the song. Amazing that she was able to sing through it, though

  • Wicked the movie 2014-3

  • I saw this with both of them in it and it was amazing!! this will always be my favorite musical

  • Never noticed until now, but you know which other witch Glinda reminds me of here? Piper Halliwell from "Charmed." Kristin Chenoweth would have done a great job playing her... Not as good a job as Holly Marie Combs did, of course, but a good one. I don't know, they speak and move very similarly.

  • i watched this play Singapore and it was awsome to think im not in to play

  • Idina doesn't have asthma people! And you know what it's funny how all of you guys are thinking that because it just shows how well she played the part. Elphiba is supposed to be terrified and trembling in this scene, which causes the breathing rate to go up

  • I just started bawling in the middle of this song. I mean, For Good is supposed to be the emotional part and I love it, but it's also where there's forgiveness. Here, they're both just leaving each other.

  • It is amazing how she can go on with asthma....she is so amazing I didn't even know she had asthma that's how amazing she is!

  • I like these this better than the London Production. The lady who played Glinda wasn't as good as Kristin.

  • I'm going to marry Idina Menzel's voice, just sayin

  • it's amazing theater, don't get me wrong, but it's just so nasal. And yes, I realize that nasality can be stylistically appropriate and that most people would disagree with me, but that much nasality is just bad technique.

  • I've never heard a more powerful voice in my life. She truly has one of the most unique voices on Broadway.

  • People who talk crap about Idina:

She's panting because she's acting the part. Elphaba is terrified and discovering a new path to living her life. It's basically a life alternating moment. She's terrified, finding a path she'll follow, and finally speaking up after a lifetime of being quiet. Anyone would be gasping for breath. So. Shut. Up.

  • @Replauge She's also surrounded by smoke and fog... Not exactly the easiest environment to sing that song in...

  • @Replauge I agree wholeheartedly. I think her breaths really help add authenticity to the performance. People don't understand it.

  • @Replauge And Glinda says, "Elphie, you're trembling". With Idina's gasps, I can believe that Elphaba is trembling.

  • Goosebumps!!!!!!

  • So I read on IMDb that there is supposed to be a movie of Wicked in 2014 but since it's in development there is no other information about it. If the movie in fact does get made please cast Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel as the characters. I've always wanted to see them live in the musical so the movie would be the next best thing.

  • @mcawesomeguy101 I'd love to have them do the parts in the film. They are perfect, both for their characters and in chemistry. We'll see though.

  • @Manigran I completely agree. I've seen multiple clips of them from Wicked as well as other performances they have done and they are spectacular every time. I think if they chose other actresses for the part they wouldn't be able to bring their characters to life as well as Idina and Kristin do.

  • Idina & Kristin = God

  • Do you know how much breath singing takes?? To not be able to.and sing......woah!!!

  • I saw Wicked this past Sunday at Bass Concert Hall in Austin, Texas. I LOVED IT!! My first time seeing it too :)

I love the song but I'm afraid I have to say this is illegal.

  • @bluebird6545 oh.. i thought this was a promotional video published by the theatrical company? ü

  • amazing!!! asthma attack or not she was truly captivating

  • Comment removed

  • OMG better than anyone else WITH an asthma attack so amazing, you can tell she is struggling but she just carries on.

  • I love how they both ended up on Glee

  • @1358Paco It's BECAUSE they're fantastic thaty they were both invited there...

  • Do you see the dislike bar??

    Good me neither.

  • "Elphie you're trembling" ... No shit sherlock -.-

  • @thisacountworks She was saying that to continue the performance, because they couldn't just stand there silently while she was gasping for air.

  • to be having breathing troubles, and to continue..that's amazing. idina menzel is so great.

  • This is the only good song in Wicked. I think it's too good for the rest of the show.

  • Way better than Glee.

  • when does the projection start?

  • best defying gravity video in youtube

  • Comment removed

  • "Well, where are your wings?"

  • Still the best!

  • i love idina in rent too :D she makes a great maureen as well as a great elphie :D

  • "Quick! Get on!" , says Elphie.

"What?", says Glinda. LOL LOVE THAT PART

  • wait what

    why is she so perfect

  • omgg kristin acts in gleeeeeeeeee :)

  • @mrsbestwest1 both of them do. Idina plays Rachel's birth mother.

  • @laylabellesully lol yeaa i just realised n omg rachel n her mum in glee lukk the same ;0

  • i so would love to see this in theater but i can't and if i do see it i would only want to see them in the act...if she can do that while having an asthma attack...i have it and i would of quit right when my attack started...she inspires me

  • My new role models! I will so be that witch one day!

  • Amazing, she was having an asthma attack and carried on as though everything was fine, you wouldn't have guessed anything was wrong without the gasps and coughs and short breaths. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth are my heroes. They're absolutely amazing actresses.

  • @CaptainFranHughes

Are you sure she is having an asthma attack?

  • She is absolutely amazing she was having an asthma attack and made it thru the song like nothing was wrong she's just amazing!!

  • She is not wicked though...that line kills me when she says it. She's anything but evil...She's wonderful

  • I heard she had asthma (is that how you spell it?) when she was doing this. You could notice it from the gasps

  • @HooblaPower

but you have to admit, she was amazing even with the gasps... i mean, she was having an asthma attack and STILL did better than half the people i know.

  • She owns the character.

  • What date does the movie come out?????

  • @MultiHAHA143

There is an awesome book.. :) "the life and times of the wicked witch of the west" on which the musical is based.

The book is even slightly better than the musical - and dont get me wrong, I love the musical. :-)

  • @MultiHAHA143 Since when they did they announce a movie? Its a musical...... (and book)

  • These two were the best thier was together, they were awsome together. Love them both.

  • I barely noticed her breathing.... I still barely notice it.

  • I've seen Wicked four times, and i saw it with Idina, once you see it with her every other time you see it pales in comparision.

  • i love it when it freezes on her face all creepy with her eyes wide and her mouth open REALLY weird lookin. love her tho!!! <3

  • She sounded wonderful! ....How do you guys know she was having an asthma attack? it didn't look like it to me...

  • @LessatheLioness I agree! I'm not an MD. I know nothing of asthma, thank goodness. What I know about is music and this is an amazing duet. I hear the gasping as Idina portraying her character feeling desperate and I find it wonderful acting and a plausible, if not admirable, portrayal of the character.

Does anyone know what a "Proshot" is? This ending (the last few seconds) is unlike any production I've seen although I think it is the way it "should" be.

  • Indina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth are my favorite Galinda and Elphaba because they are both amazing singers, actors, and seem to have great chemistry with each other.

  • 5:40-5:50 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Absolutely gorgeous!

  • Comment removed

  • In my opinion they where the best =]

  • @throughandthrough I totally agree. Idina is one of the best performers ever. And remember this is the Brodway production!! For all you out there who feel the same, speak out! The Theatre and Brodway is incredibly difficult to ever succed in, so instead of saying negative comments about her flaws just because you're jealous, try and remember the details behind the whole production.

  • De Nederlandse versie van dit nummer is net zo goed als dit nummer want diegene die het nummer in Nederland zingt heeft ook in Duitsland gespeeld

  • I just didn't like the bubble they put her in at the end of the song. I like to see Elphaba flying over the citizens of Oz. That's the only part I didn't like.

Everytime I hear this stong, I still get chills.

  • Look. Maybe she had an attack or maybe she didnt.

But if she did have an attack, she wouldn't have been able to sing at all. Like physically she wouldnt be able to sing, let along belt at a high range.

  • @BlazedHearts

Actually, you can fight through an asthma attack. Trust me, I have asthma, and still played frisbee while hardly being able to breathe. Believe it or not, you're not DEAD when you have an asthma attack.

  • @FrizzKid05 Well obviously youre not dead. I dont know. it just seems a little unlikely she can belt like that during an attack.

But then again I dont even know if she was having an attack. She normally sounds like this. :S

  • @BlazedHearts

What do you know about asthma attacks then? It's like anything else...you can fight through it. It's another condition, not unlike playing football with a concussion. There are periods between breathlessness that you can fight through, and that's what she did, despite being limited, she pushed through. I know that you can...trust me.

  • @FrizzKid05 I think you're getting a little too defensive. Calm down love.

  • @BlazedHearts

I'm explaining to a person who doesn't understand what a condition is about how it really works. You brought it up...I'm merely pointing out the inaccuracy of your statement.

  • @FrizzKid05 Yes, I understand. But the 'tone' of it is very defensive. You've informed me, I was mistaken, but just chill. Lol.

  • @BlazedHearts

There's no tone. You're reading into it what you want to hear. I informed you that you're wrong...that's all.

  • @FrizzKid05 I dont want to hearr defensive. lol

    Have a nice day. C:

  • @BlazedHearts

    Clearly, ya do.

  • @FrizzKid05 sigh. Okay. Yes dear,sure.

    Just being friendly now.

  • Glinda has nice tits

  • asthma can be triggered by theatrical smoke and haze so most likely they were prepared for this situation and had the video prepared to cover for such a situation. that might explain the use od the projection when it is not the usual situation for the scene

  • to everyone talking crap about idina's performance, please upload a video of you singing this song in front of a full theatre, and doing better than she does. then maybe you can talk. until you can do that, kindly shut the hell up.

  • @throughandthroughh

watch my cousin do it. she did it on an iphone and she puts this chick to sleep.

  • @jonasdurden can she do it while having an asthma attack?

  • @ThePotterfan96 yep. Arielle had those pipes since she was 3 years old. don't be hatin'.

  • Comment removed

  • @throughandthroughwww.youtube.com/watch?v=4hxqFARsWF0&feature=youtu.be

  • throughandthroughh you should take a leaf out of her book throughandthroughh

  • You can tell she was having attack, the coughing, the hand on the diaphragm, heavy breathing and to top it off at 5:10 she signals for her inhaler. To have an attack and still carry on shows how dedicated she is.

  • @TheGeorgiaRiley ano blees her for still carrying on xx they probaly ran and gave her a quick puff of her inhaler just before she flew xx

  • @TheGeorgiaRiley forget that last comment she wouldn't have had time for her inhaler :)

  • Sorry to break it to you guys but I'm almost positive she wouldn't be able to sing like that while having an asthma attack.

  • @beerlands A professional wouldn't stop a whole performance because they were having an attack, she carried on nevertheless. I have asthma, and man, that must have been so scary for her to be performing and then have an attack.

  • @TheGeorgiaRiley I do to, and I mean physically I don't think she'd be able to sing like that while having an attack

  • @beerlands

Sure you can. If you have worked for a long time, you can strengthen your lungs to the point where you can belt through an asthma attack. I used to have asthma..be it, mild, but through choir and sports, I was able to strengthen my lungs to get rid of it.

  • Can anyone explain to me how Elphaba ended up enlarged on the scrim? I just saw the show live at Gershwin and she was only suspended above the stage. Still amazing, I'm just curious how this particular trick was done.

  • Manifestorium.

  • We're performing this scene at my schhol(:

  • Now I'm gonna go out there and defy gravity. That was amazing!

  • Idina's breathing is so annoying

  • @Esorassen she had to cause like some other people said- she was having an asmtha attack. Its amazing she can sing like that nevertheless, but you could obviously tell she was trying

  • @pugsrule97 but she breathed like this all the time when she was in Wicked.

  • @Esorassen not exactly easy to be running around like that and sing perfectly. Broadways stars aren't perfect.

  • @Esorassen Yes she did breathe heavy all the time in Wicked through all of her shows, but when looking at this one we can tell that its more elaborated and then the cough and you can see she does in deed signal for her inhaler.

  • they were the best Galinda and Elphaba infact the best duet on broadway

  • Kristin is definetly better that Helen

  • that's definitely an asthma wheeze

  • Amazin!!

  • wait is she really having an asthma attack in this?

  • @gotpaddle2 Judging by how much she's gasping for air and wheezing more than usual thats an assumption but thats what I think anyways.

  • how did u guys know she is having asthma attack?

  • @pinkienpica her breathing is more gaspy than normal for this song. if i'm not mistaken normally these lines before the actual song start are delivered with more intensity. she's gasping for air.

thus we can assume she's having an asthma attack

at least that's how i can see

  • @wendlabergman you said butt. :)

  • @DreamsofCentaurs Lmao it's called art and a different point of view, you don't need to be so butt hurt about a book/musical.

  • @DreamsofCentaurs

    Trolling right?

  • She is FREAKING amazing. Having an asthma attack is still sings as if she wasn't! Tell me how many people would do that? Especially with asthma!

  • Plus the fact idina is getting winded has almost nothing to do with her breathlessness except toward the end Elohim is scared trying to find a way to save herself her breathlessness reflects that don't like her Orwell don't like her breathlessness look up idina menzel take me or leave me rent and let that wash swag ur feelings

  • luv Idina's facial expressions XD

  • LANGUAGE!!!

  • Both are on glee

  • i love this song! its just so inspiring and Idina Menzel is so amazing!

  • i seriously cum every time at the ending.

  • Actually she doesn't have asthma. She has never confirmered it. In one interview though, she did say at she thought that's how she thought Elphaba would act. She does sound like she's having breathing problems, but she is belting out hard notes. Which is very hard and drains your voice fast.

  • You people have vivid imaginations. She's simply a gasper.

  • HOLY CRAP. O.O The show GOES ON. *bows before the greatness of Teh Idina*

  • CHILLS

  • I cant stand her "So if you care to find me *GASP*, Look to the western sky *GASP* As someone told me lately *GASP*"

  • @Elphiesgreenfriend she was having an asthma attack lay off a little

  • @tamarajoy06 She's even confirmed that she doesnt have ashma

  • @Elphiesgreenfriend no she didn't. she just never confirmed that she does have it. if you hate her then dont look up her videos

  • @Elphiesgreenfriend even if she doesn't have asthma i'd honestly like to hear you belt out this song with out taking deep breaths

  • @haybaybayily I actually can and i know other actresses breath but she get so winded for no reason, she says like 5 words and she's dying

  • @Elphiesgreenfriend

I think she was having an asthma attack. Plus, those are hard notes to hit....who wouldn't be gasping? :)

  • @Elphiesgreenfriend Listen she does have asthma and if you don't like her then why are you freaking looking up her videos!! She is obviously amazing since she actually got this part!

  • @betty97boop Because im tired of seeing her Everywhere, And so many fucking compare Idina with other actresses on OTHER ELphaba videos its annoying.

  • ive been aspiring to see wicked for 5 years now and i finally just saw it the other day!!! what a performance!!!

  • This is why Idina Menzel is my idol

  • ok people who disliked this:

    1. Idina Menzel had an astma attack

    2. defying gravity is hard to perfect

    3. She's performing in front of hundreds of peeps

  • there both in gleee xx

  • OMG!! This is an amazing performance and what makes it even more amazing is that she is actually having a asthma attack. You can tell because it looks like she signals for an inhaler at @5:10 i could be wrong but that's what i think she's doing or at least notifying them she's having a asthma attack

  • im going to see Wicked on Broadway this spring(: im sooo excited!!!

  • @LaquaciousPiggy- Haha yeah I actually did notice it was a little off, but I just wanted to defend Idina :)

  • @MondoHoN- Actually it's not out of tune. That's how the music is written. A true Wicked fan would realize that. Next time if you don't like something, don't watch it. Thanks :)

  • @Impossible998

Idina is on that flat side of that note - it isn't completely wrong, but it isn't properly in tune either. Happens to even the best of people :3 Considering she is using belt in the upper range when she was already having a hard time in this performance, she did great :)

  • I saw her with christen on broadway! I have seen it 6 different times and these 2 r really the best!!!

  • Idina Menzel is my idol. I would give anything to hear her sing
