As a baldie myself, I never saw this as an insult to the folliclly bereft. It appears to be good old fashioned stream-of consciousness wordplay. Malkmus is obviously a fan of Yul, as am I. What the hey. baldness was Yul's trademark (blame Katherine Hepburn, who suggested to Yul that he shave his balding pate--not long afterward he became a star). This could imply that the baldness was a self-imposed characteristic in the first place. I know what you mean about diversity. It seems like 95% of all the music videos ever made only have enough money for 3 or 4 set pieces and then they repeat each one 3 or 4 times and VOILA! One cookie cutter music video ready for heavy rotation on MTV2. Then you have videos like this that seek to advance the medium and be hilarious.
