  • Steve Dahl=White Nazi Lover

  • @BBQFanNo1 Grow up.

  • Steve Dahl=Closet Homophobic and Racist. He also trashed his Ex-Longtime Partner Garry Meier New Wife. Meier has never forgiven him to this day. That tells what a biggest loser piece of shit Steve Dahl is

  • Steve Dahl always was and still is a born dickweed head shit. How hypocritical his generation is when older people from the 1940s and 1950s thought his music was garbage too. He is nothing but a baby boomer piece of shit born the same year I was. In 1954.

  • Autotune's over use is like the over use of lip synching on certain programs was back in the 1960s and 1970s. I hate it as much as Karoake and American Idol crap

  • Funny how hard core filth music from the following decades never had a Autotune Music Records Demolition. Or Justin Bieber Music Demolition. Disco is tame and actually even though I hated it back then it actually sounds great compared to much of the garbage music since the 1990s. Not saying all music sucked in the 1990s but Autotune is the worst crock of bullshit tool brought into the Global Music Industry ever.

  • Hey Revolting Cocks did a great version of "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"...it don't have to be disco track!

  • I was there when this happened. IT was pretty scary.....

  • who ya to ya

  • just......don't listen to it...? just a thought.

  • Well I guess that settles it, disco sucks

  • I'm a metal head and I like disco.

  • Twilight Demolistion, please?

  • Yea lets name all the shit disco...fucking ignants and metalheads.

  • "The Insane Coho Lips Anti-Disco Army"

  • Haha, someone mentioned that David Gilmour hated disco with a passion. Funny how years later, he would be singing Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" during a soundcheck on his last solo tour. Search for it on YouTube if you don't believe me.

  • I remember around this time, John Candy copped the "...blowed up real good..." line and incorporated it into a comic skit on Second City Television.

  • At 2:56 there's a guy with a box. Apparently he was trying to hide a Bee Gees record he was trying to make off with!

  • Steve Dahl should be tortured to death and beheaded with his head on display in a disco museum.

  • Steve Dahl is such a fat fucking idiot.

  • Steve Dahl....I wish you DEATH!!! you MF!

Death is waht you should deserve!

  • Justin Bieber's getting his own Demolition night on July 1st!

  • burn baby burn. now THAT's a disco inferno!

  • Many years ago- good stuff

  • Now we need a "Rap & Hip-Hop Demolition Night "!!

  • Can we have a justin beiber demolition?

  • @packerbacker16 Bieber?? Hell Lady gaga, Miley Cyrus, Hannah Banana...They clearly didn't make a good enough point.

  • @DimensionsofChange DISNEY DEMOLITION!!!!!!!!!!!!! FTW, THIS SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE DONE

  • @packerbacker16 I'm stealing that idea and forming a Facebook event with my friends in Southwest Michigan, Disney demolition night, genius.

  • @DimensionsofChange lol, This time make it a tiger sox game at the tigers.

  • This is what happen when a music style died in glory...like Jesus Christ , Disco resurection was inevitable , it took 20 years but in the 2nd part of years 1990's , Disco came back to life while ROCK music was dying for good with no memorials no priest , no funerals ceremony and in total indifference...

  • If there was a black metal demolition night... shit would be serious.

  • Little did anyone know after this video that the fans charged the field to celebrate disco being dead. It took 40 minutes before the Chicago police restored order. In turn 38 people were arrested and the Chicago White Sox were forced to forfeit the second game to the Detroit Tigers in what Major league Baseball calls the greatest fiasco in the history of baseball.

  • @MrBennetzen I call making a hero out of Barry Bonds a much bigger fiasco.

  • I guess disco would suck for someone who can't say "disco sucks" on beat...

  • Disco sucks was the day pure rock n roll died and became rap dance house top 40 pop grunge you name it ... it became it lol! Thanks Steve Dahl.....

  • @rlb2k1 Pure rock n roll...Ah ha ha ha! These idiots couldn't even dance to pure rock n roll.

  • I remember people painting the word disco underneath the stop signs. Then rap happened. Jeez

  • I remember people painting the word disco underneath the stop sign.

  • Anyone who plays a bee gee's record should be taken outside and shot in the back of the head, no matter when or where they were born. F$%k France.

  • Johnny Rotten should have thrown first pitch!!

  • i wish i could have attended this game!! what a hilarious protest at disco..i proudly wore a Death to Disco badge in 1980...mind you some of the stuff sounds ok now LOL..

  • Who's for an R'N'B demolition night???

  • steve dahl is the shit. I was 7 yrs old when this happened and i remember this like yesterday.

  • Steve is a legend ....

  • It's time for a modern pop demolition! Who's with me?

  • @USGrrrl19 i hate cheap popo music

  • @USGrrrl19 i hate cheap pop music

  • @USGrrrl19 I am with you if it includes Teen-Pop Demolition from 1998-Present.

  • Was that Nancy Faust at the organ

  • Where's Steve Dahl when you need him? We need him out of retirement to give us another musical destruction event just like "Disco Demolition Night" at Comiskey Park in ChiTown back in '79. Let's blow up the albums & CD's from today's crappy artists especially Lady Ca Ca, Katy Perry, Kanye & St!nk just to name a few. We classic rockers have pined for this for a long time.

  • I wonder how this scene would've panned out if the venue had been

the University of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium instead?

@ kingofwaverly---AMEN TO THAT AND INCLUDE THOSE "INFOMERCIALS" TOO!

  • THIS NEEDS TO TAKE PLACE ON WILSHIRE BLVD AT KRTH FM 101

DISCO FREE KRTH FM 101 IS NOT A DISCO RADIO STATION

    SAVE KRTH FM101

    DISCO DISCO SUCKS

  • All I have to say is where is this kind of outrage today with all the reality shows and generic thug rap (which has been allowed to become a far worse monster than disco)?

  • @kingofwaverly Only one reality show worth watching - 'Undercover Boss" on CBS. The rest can go to hell especially the Real Housewives (or afaic Hosebags) series in every city featured on Bravo. Glad American Idol's finally crumbling down.

  • Oh my GOD,they did it! They finally, really did it!

    You maniacs.....you blew it up!

Aah DAMN YOU........GOD........DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!!

  • Nooooo Not the Bee Gees!

  • White Sox fans are generally aggressive assholes and when you mix that kind of group with an anti-disco event, this is what happens. Middle America always hated disco primarily because disco had a demographic that included blacks, gays, and affluent people. So, ignorant blue collar, Midwestern types took out their hate and did things like this. Back then, if you liked disco, you could be verbally or even physically attacked. Sadly, things haven't changed all that much in Middle America.

  • I was there for my best friend;s birthday and my parents were there too!

  • @kurthschroeder Dont worry I wont tell Rich!!! LOL

  • A lot of people don't understand that Disco put a lot of local musicians out of work!! Some clubs tried to compromise by playing Disco tunes, during the band's break, but still Disco did it's damage!! For a lot of musicians,it was a "Wake Up Call",to get day jobs,and/or go back to school to learn a skill to back you up!!

  • It is not Disco doing the damage... it is economics. It is simply economics doing its thing. For those who failed to see things accurately, yes they would undoubtably blame and hate disco.

  • People like the DJ in this video clip were having their livelihood threatened by disco. Follow the money ...

  • @kayumochi The DJ in this video, Steve Dahl, was earning upwards of 150k back in recessionary 1979 USA. Not bad, and worth every penny. He had a terrific knack for holding his finger up and discerning which way the pop-culture winds would be blowing. So, don't feel too bad for the DJ and his livelihood. Both remained intact.

  • we gone blow em up real good!

  • 1) feeble explosion, frankly. Shoulda added a few fireworks

    2) it's just a publicity stunt for a DJ

    3) I'm older than you two (below) and I was fully sentient in '79: Punk etc. did not kill disco, disco didn't really die, it evolved into new forms, including rap and hip hop. Example: Disco>TomTomClub>Blondie, Heart of Glass or Disco>SugarHillGang,RappersDelight>GrandmasterFlash

  • 4) if you think England wasn't basing music on Black American artists, then you fail to understand where the Beatles and Rolling Stones came from. Rock of every form came, ultimately, from African American music evolving (and yes, with other influences and appropriations along the way)

    5) I think there is some merit to the racist claim in anti-discoism, but it's a subtle ethnocentrist sort. Another case of discomfort with "The other".

  • But there's also this: it was all in good fun. No one was getting violent over it on a personal level.

  • @SisterUnity I agree. Punk didn't kill disco. Punk was done by 79. Post punk began approx 78.

  • @SisterUnity Great analysis of the evolution of disco.

  • Oh and i'm a very successful House music DJ and producer ;-)

  • You are a shitheap. House music absolutely sucks. DJ who scratches records. Anyone can do that imbecile. You produce shit music. Probably smoke and take ecstacy and meth. I've yet to try drugs and I can't dance so I'd rather hear music played by real drums, guitars, keyboards and bass guitars. Some bands tried techno sounds with rock and roll and succeeded but now rappers are defecating music. This event happened when you were just semen in your dad's phallus.

  • Steve Dahl you fucking Cunt!! We hope you fucking die!!! In your fucking face you prick!! Disco not only survived but its down your fucking throat now shit brains. its taken over the world!!! you racist prick!!! i am a white 22 years old from norwich in england, thought i may mention that!!!

  • Wishing death kaveboy is going to come back to haunt you (what comes around, goes around so watch what you say). The disco culture was like a cockroach, similar to rap today. No one could escape it. You go into a store and hear "b" bombs. You turn on TV, same deal. Pick up a newspaper, same thing. You turn on TV, same thing. Ethel Merman doing a disco album was as bad as K-Fed doing a rap record jackass!

  • ALTERN SUXXXXXX

    TOP 40 SUXXXXXX

    REALTY SHOW SUXXXX

    GRUNGE SUXX

could you tell me when those vomiting suposly artist got their AUTO-DAFE DEMOLITION NIGHT TOO ?

  • Wow, this is a most interesting thread!

I gotta ask this tho, because I really don't know:

Who threw the first stone, the Disco-ers or the Rockers? ...and why?

    Your comments welcome.

  • Disco threw the first stone as far as I can see it. Disco took off in NY and LA and eventually dominated the singles charts from 1975-79 and once Saturday Night Fever hit the album charts as well from 1978-mid 79. Disco was all over the place (like rap today and there was no escape). There was Disco Duck, then Burger King and McDonald's disco commercials. Then The Stones, KISS and Rod Stewart all did disco tunes and pissed off rock fans. Rap and techno was born from ashes of disco.

  • That's what I thought...kinda like the way Japan bombed Pear Harbor. Then the US turned around and beat the hell out of them! I was around back then and I actually used to like disco...that is, until the disco-ers kept insulting me cause I also liked rock...no joke, that really happened. I just could never understand what the hell the disco-ers thought they were try'n to prove. Then I understood why Steve Dahl did what he did. That stupid disco mentality! It's STILL around today too...Drag!

  • Rock music dominated album sales charts for much of the 1970s until Saturday Night Fever came along. Then the tsunami of The Bee Gees, Donna Summer and The Village People came along and the album charts were dominated in 1978-first half of 1979 by disco. In that period was at its peak. The disco people were followers whilst rock fans were seen as leaders who didn't cave in to what was trendy nor cool. I say it's better to be a nerd liking rock and roll than to be some cool poseur liking shit.

  • Yup, that's the way I remember it too. Then it seemed like in the early 80's, MTV was going strong with rock oriented music, until some cry babys came out'n accused them of not play'n black music (which really wasn't true). They somehow corn-holed 'em into play'n 'neo disco' like Michael Jackson and the like. Course, I would always say it was disco, and other folks would say, "Oh, that's not disco" Sure it is! ...GEEZ! Then there was this album called "The Return of Mr. Disco" Go figure!

  • Late 1979-early 1983 had rock albums dominate the US charts until Thriller came along. Also MTV was playing real music until Walter Yetnikoff (then-head of Michael Jackson's old label CBS Records (now Sony)) threatened to label MTV racist for not playing much R&B music (they played some black artists as I recall but not to extent they do now). Thriller had loads of disco elements. Michael Jackson's video overkill was an omen to lead to re-birth of disco as techno and rap/hip hop music sadly.

  • Yes--exactly! That's the way I remember it too. That Thriller was nuth'n but basic power disco...I tried to tell my friends that, but they always told me I was crazy, that it's not disco...but indeed it is!

So, it was Walter Yetnikoff that complained about MTV back then. I'm sure at the time, MTV was try'n to be careful NOT to play anything like disco. Too bad that they finally gave in. Anyway, U said it right- techno and rap/hip hop is today's new disco. Rock is STILL doing good despite it..

  • Rap and Hip Hop and Techno were spawned from the demise of Disco. Many great new rock and roll bands aren't from the US, they all exist outside the US. Furthermore, bands like The Eagles, Metallica and AC/DC all released #1 albums in last two years. KISS hit #2 with Sonic Boom. Then Rush hit #3 with Snakes and Arrows in '07. David Gilmour hit #6 with his On an Island album in 2006. Long live rock and roll!

  • I'm starting to think that the only reason rap/hip hop and techno exist, is in rebellion to rock (and probably all other forms of music for that matter). That

'music' appears to be very much ethnic driven by what folks of that ethnic genre "think" they must act like. It seems rather deceptive, even distorted. Fortunately, rock music does not tend to display that kind of mentality.

  • @bob4analog The only highlight on Wacko Jacko's "Thriller" was "Beat It" cuz it had Eddie Van Halen jamming on guitar. Even the song w/McCartney sucked.

And it's not just today's (c)rap along w/techno & house music - we're hearing disco in today's sucky music like Lady Ca Ca, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Ke$ha, Fergie/Black Eyed Peas, Justine Beaver & St!nk. Then you have shit like Glee & American Idol stinking up our airwaves.

Steve was a trailblazer who we need now.

  • @bob4analog Disco still exists in Lady Ca Ca, Katy Perry & St!nk's music.

  • I almost forgot METALSUCKS4LIFE, the Notorious BIG was a fat PIG who became "smoked pork". You know what Tupac's name is backwards? Caput because he's dead! Ja Rule is as entertaining as watching paint dry. Furthermore, his career went dead when Penny Cent came out swinging attacking Ja Drool. I know you hate white people, admit you hate the white man. You are probably happy that you have as Pastor James David Manning calls Obama "THE LONG LEGGED MACK DADDY" as President of the US.

  • how is saying the bee gees suck racist or homophobic? blacks and gays have had a big part in shaping rock & roll too (maybe more than disco), if you don't like the music of ted nugent or george thorogood, does that make you intolerant? chicago has black, gay, hispanic, oriental, indian, etc. neighborhoods all trying their best to live together. if you've never been there, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

  • As I remember it, the Disco-ers started this whole thing, talking bad about rock

(and all other kinds of music). That's why Steve did the Disco Demolition. Happily, rock is certainly NOT dead; many a sell-out modern rock concerts and platinum record sales can attest to that. Heck, look at Guitar Hero...evidence!

  • Like I just stated, many rock albums debut high enough now. Also, rock music had a resurrection after this event. Leading the way were The Eagles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd with their albums. As I recall, rock albums dominated the US album charts from late 1979 to 1982 thanks to this little incident here (Bob Seger, Queen, Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Journey and Styx all had #1 albums in that timeframe).

  • Ok, he's always been kinda fat, ugly and sick...so what? So yer saying he's that way now because of his Disco Demolition?

  • Wow...now I know why Steve had a Disco Demolition!

  • You will pay for this, Steve!

  • ....Really? How's he going to pay for it???

  • Really he is paying now, do not you see it? he is a fat, ugly and sick. His future is wrote. Do not try me please.

  • Steve Dahl has been married for 30 years, has 3 grown sons, podcasts from his home, writes a newspaper column, and is a Chicago radio legend w/millions of devoted listeners. oh wait, you're right. he's fat. he must be miserable.

  • yes, disco came from a minority subculture, but look at any studio 54 pic from 1979: warhol, capote, beatty, jagger, rich whiteys, lotsa coke. the midwest is farmers & blue-collar who bust their ass for a buck & are more concerned with feeding their families than being trendy. the disco lifestyle was shoved down our throats by the media & it did indeed suck. the people in this clip are not rich. a young michael clarke duncan is in this crowd somewhere. hey, he's black.

  • Also, many rockers sported Disco Sucks T-shirts during that time (Geddy Lee of Rush, Snowy White (Pink Floyd's touring guitarist for the Animals and The Wall tours)) and also detested it. There were many in rock who disliked disco like David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), The Eagles (wrote "The Disco Strangler" as an attack on the culture and music), Pete Townshend (wrote "Sister Disco" as an attack on the genre), Led Zeppelin, Rush, Styx, Aerosmith, Brian May and Roger Taylor (Queen).

  • by 1979, disco really did suck. the airwaves were clogged with "disco duck" and the village people. the US music biz declared rock dead and filled record stores w/disco LPs, soon to be returned in droves, triggering a huge industry slump. midwest folk love their rock, & only trendys in NY & LA could afford to do mounds of coke & disco all night. dahl has said he was never anti gay or black, just that the music & lifestyle were lame. the old comiskey park is now gone. steve is a chi radio legend

  • it did get commercialized.....and yes, dahl never said he was anti-gay or anti-black, but to deny that the droves of people wasn't at least partially due to those sentiments is ridiculous.

  • Led Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door came out a month after this and it debuted at #1 on the US charts in early September 1979 triggering a huge boost in sales to the record industry where people stopped buying disco and New Wave/Punk and purchased more hard rock and rock albums (The Eagles, Foreigner, Styx). The biggest selling album of 1980 was Pink Floyd's The Wall (#1 for first four months of 1980 and now the biggest selling double album EVER) with AC/DC's Back in Black close behind.

  • I only see white men partecipating in this nonsense.

  • exactly

  • look at the crowd at a NASCAR race, see a lot of black folks? does that make that crowd racist? look at the crowd at an R.Kelly concert, see a lot of white folks? does that make that crowd racist? use your head. hard rock has a audience that's mostly white. show me ANY crowd ANYWHERE at ANY event & there's gonna be some racists in it. chicago has no more or no less than any other big city.

  • No comparison with other events you mentioned: this was a rally "against" something, not a pacific gathering. These people reminds me the ones burning Beatles' records in early Sixties. And also: no girls in the mob!!

  • This happended inbetween games of a Major League baseball double header. This guy made a total ass of himself and eventually caused a riot with fans storming the field and tearing up old Comiskey Park in Chicago. Thus, the White Sox had to forfeit the second game of the Double header. All this just to oppose a type of music? Couldn't they have come up with a more important topic concering the US? Wow, how times have changed.

  • Great stuff. Dahl's "Disco Death" song after this wasn't that good though. Everything else was top notch marketing and amusement.

  • We need to do this to Hip Hop and kill that disease on music. HIP HOP SUCKS. HIP HOP SUCKS.

  • i wasnt ther ein the 70's, but i think a great deal of the anti disco backlash has purely to do with racism and homophobia - disco represents an evolution of multi cultural ethnic music and white rocker dudes hated it...now its was escapist and a-politcal - but it serves its function as far as music goes to ALOT of people even today: it makes you "dance...dance...dance dance!"

  • Dazaram know, I think that it does not matter if they wrote music disc or not ... after all, what is sin if they did?

Disapproval to the BEE GEES is deeper.

    And that's how bad.

I think most do not have the full idea of who are musicians.

I think there is more than one, which should seek to listen more carefully ... BEE GEES not you think?

    A greeting for you.

  • Disco sucks. Disco. The music played at discos is not so great either, but it's DISCO that sucks. Just had to be there, I guess.

  • I fuckin' hate you Steve Dahl...go ____ yourself.

  • I used to like disco, along with rock and some country as well. I was quite unbiased and I didn't understand why the big anti-disco movement was occurring... until some disco folks started put'n me down for liking rock music, telling me that "Rock is dead!", "Rock Sucks!", etc. THEN I began to understand why the rockers were against disco- it wasn't so much the music, but the disco attitude that they hated. Sad to say, that same 'disco' attitude is in today's rap, hip-hop, and techno music.

  • the answer is wrong..The disco attitude is in House music and not hip hop, rap and electronic music.

  • No, actually the answer is exactly correct! It can be proven. Rap/Hip-Hop has it's roots in disco, which is well documented--look it up on the internet. You can do a search on "Disco Lives! Actually, It Never Died" and U'll find several sites that varify that Rap/Hip-Hop, Trance, Gabber, Electronica, etc are all rooted in disco. (BTW, that's the later phase of disco; the first phase was rather benign.)

  • Then I guess Disco took a solid revenge on Rock critics....Dance and Electronica had been forced underground (the real stuff) because of fear that if it took over the charts, the same thing would happen.

If you check out today's crap music, you will get a general idea on how much worse it got over the years..Thanks in part of the big 4 labels.

  • Perhaps this is true. Indeed ther's a lot of lousy music today. All I know is that, when most people go our for a good time, they like the DJ/dance music setting...no live music. Been there - Seen that...and that really suks if yer a musician. Course, now days, I've heard it said that DJ's are musicians...go figure!

  • There were a few leftover disco #1 singles after this BUT the rest of 1979 and all of 1980 would be barraged with rock and roll albums hitting #1. Led Zeppelin, The Eagles and Pink Floyd led the charge of ensuring disco was dead by 1981 (Bob Seger, Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones (once in 80 and again in 81), Jackson Browne, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, John Lennon/Yoko Ono, REO Speedwagon, Styx, The Moody Blues, Journey, Stevie Nicks, Foreigner and AC/DC would top the album charts from 1979-81).

  • But by 1979 Disco was getting stale. Most responses in here pro disco would have to admit that.

and Steve Dahl killed it in the name of Rock and Roll.

  • disco was not killed

disco survive in house music, dance, and others

steve dalh is just a fat girl

  • Its funny cause I was reading an article about the anti disco movement and it said people would wear shirts saying disco sucks and they would have bumper stickers saying disco is for faggots.

if disco was for faggots then why didn't anyone say anything when rock bands in the 80's dressed like women!?

  • Cause that would upset all the straight guys who worshiped those bands and make them question their own sexuality.

  • Iron Maiden, Slayer, Megadeth and Metallica didn't dress like women. The '80s hair metal bands like Cinderella, fucking Poison and Bon Fucking Jovi did. Those whining about this video, don't watch it! Disco Sucks was the rally cry for many rockers (I detested disco and I detest rap, hip hop and country, give me Beethoven and Bach over Caput, Notorious PIG and Bitchney Sneers any day). The Who, Led Zeppelin and Rush hated disco. In fact The Who wrote an anti-disco song "Sister Disco".

  • my dad was at this game.... he got in after work and payed the 98 cents instead of disco records and said that he had no idea that anything was gonna happen. Also he didn't go in the field with all those fools.

  • Steve Dahl was a fat-ass, clueless, moron. The only dolts who exceed his idiocy are those who attended this 'event'.

  • Well, aren't you just special?

  • Dahl and his minions worship the sounds and smells of Satan's flatulence. As such, I invoke my righteous condemnation upon their ways.

  • we should have a rock and roll demolition

certainly "bands" like panic at the disco, paramore and all these other lilly bands ROYALLY SUCK .. especially when you compare them to the guys before...the guys from the 80s and early 90s.

so why dont we blow up these new age rock and roll bands cd...??

  • Beautiful Comiskey Park certainly deserved better treatment than this.

  • This is what should happen to every jonas borthers album.

  • It's too bad the 9/11 terrorists put an end to this spontaneity forever. Homeland Security will never let this happen again. I have to say, the US has changed significantly since the 60's.

  • Okay, let's not fight about who likes what music, and hates other kinds of music. How about if they blow up "Hannah Montana",or "Jonas Brothers" CD's instead, then I hope no one would get upset.Deal?

  • Disco was to the second half of the 1970's what rap was to the first half of the 2000's: overbearing. Yeah, the people who attended this event were "burnouts." Disco burnt them out. Everywhere you turned on the radio, there it was, much like Ja Rule and 50 Cent from 2000 through 2005. (Notice how people don't miss either of them in 2009?) You know it's bad when a guy like Rod Stewart feels compelled to make a disco song, just like when a rapper like Chingy can be popular. (And where is he now?)

  • Hands down, the greatest moment in baseball history.

  • They even have the White Sox organist playing along with the "DISCO SUCKS!" chants. WTH?

  • I wish they'd do this to Reality TV Shows

  • Wish they could do it to hip hop or rap!

  • Why can't we have things like this happen anymore???

  • 0:05 - Check out the crowd's response!

  • Jimmy Carter was in office at the time, doofus.

  • Wow, you couldn't be more delusional if you tried.

Disco Demolition was a COMEDY bit by the way, all the revised history that it was a hate-filled, censorship event is just untrue. It was a joke that went a little awry, started by Steve Dahl after he changed stations as his original station (WDAI) went to an 'all-disco' format. That and the fact that the attitudes of many people that were a little too into disco were just nauseatingly pompous and the fad part of disco really did suck!

  • I was there! Can't believe it was 30 years ago, damn i'm old....

  • my dad was. he was in right field.

  • Yup, that's 1 event that got WAY outa control! Even Steve was shocked about it. I Don't think it ended up the way he intended it.

  • I am a ballpark vendor who sold beer at Sox that night. The Sox were not drawing, and over 50,000 showed up this night to watch Dahl do this thing between games of a double header.

Dahl whipped fans into such a frenzy, that they stormed the field. We vendors went out there too! Sold some beer, then realized we could be robbed or killed...so we got out of there.

The fans ruined the field, forcing the Sox to cancel game 2. They had to spray paint the field green as fans pulled out grass.

  • I still fantasize about Lorelei
