Is there a difference between using a FABRIC STEAM "CLEANER" or a FABRIC STEAMER??? because I wanted to buy a steamer that can clean my car seats AND take the tint off. Can someone suggest a cheap solution to my request?
i just grabbed a blade, rough sponge, dish saop and windex, i took the blade and windex tot ake the tint off then the sponge with the saop didnt even dip it in water scrubbed the the glue off it and then wipped it down used the windex and blade again and kept rotating till it was clean only took like 10 min an i used all house hold products...
@jameson63926 I just did this two weeks ago in ~90 degree weather. You have to make sure your car is sitting directly in the sun and for at least an hour. Mine just peeled right off. Windex took care of the residue.
Guys, you don't even need that steam machine. Just leave the car out on a hot day, peel off the tint (start at a corner and just peel off. Should come off easy). And for the adhesive, use Windex with ammonia (basically, most windex has Ammonia). Soak it good, then razor blade it off. Super simple and should only take 5-10 min per window.
WOW 30 to 40 min per window !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have just ripped it off soaked it with sopy water and had it bladed off in 2 min. The steamer would be better used on the rear glass.
@gst69man No problem. The prices aren't exactly right though. The gallon of Xylol is about $15, and a thing of goof-off/goo-gone is around $10. I have used this stuff quite a bit after buying it and still have a lot left, definitely a great investment if you plan on removing ALL your tint.
@billyn150 Bad idea, it may remove the residue, but getting brake or carb cleaner on interior trim pieces and fabric can and will damage those pieces! It's best to use ammonia or the chemical I show in the video.
well i tried this but failed because the difficult thing about removing tint is that most film is constructed of two layers of tinted polyester. When you try to peel the film off the glass, the top layer will usually pull right off leaving the second layer behind. This second layer will not peel off, it will just flake and tear like a price tag.
WE have a new requirment in our city that window tint can't longer than 6 inches or pass the AS1. I don't want to remove all of it just enough to pass inspection. How can I do that?
Yeah, I got a 136$ ticket on a car I had been driving for years, and hadn't added any tint. I had even been pulled over previously without any incidents about the tint.
the next day at work someone came in with a 109$ speeding ticket.
I didn't even get legit pulled over, the cops pulled over a huge group of cars and got them for whatever.
You're probably not using "straight" ammonia, but the consumer grade 10% solution because pure ammonia would kill you and everyone in the room. Just ask any low-temp HVAC tech
Thanks man saves me money for a trip to the city and money on the tint removal, plus with a steam cleaner i could clean all kinds of stuff, interior, engine, chassis, cool man, keep posting helpful vids.
@djnelly $100 ! seems like a fair price to me ! You want the film removed without damage to your vehicle or defrost. The reason they are charging you this is because for the time it will take them to remove your film they can do two cars or maybe more or perhaps it was your fucktard attitude they had to deal with when speaking to you that they would not do it for less.
@mastertinter731 wow not even. i called them over the phone politely. i asked them to remove ONLY the TWO FRONT windows. so basically $50 per window. i just got really excited to doing this after watching this video, hence the vulgar language!
@djnelly 50$ PER WINDOW ?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOO OK !!!! If that's the case I agree with you they WERE ripping you off then !!! Sorry if I came off as rude brother. I have been tinting for over 20 years and specilaize in auto installation. If you ever need any tips just fire off an e mail. What they did was wrong and will end up hurting them in the long run.
Vinegar gets rid of glue gook. At least it does for price sticker glue.

TheDAVO58 1 month ago
using a HAIR BLOW DRYER will do the same, you don't need the steam, it's the heat that melts the glue that is necessary

@jolg14 I haven't tried a hair dryer, I do know that a heat-gun will work. A heat-gun is basically a hair dryer on steroids, it gets much hotter.

chrisu90 2 years ago
That chemical wont strip the paint, I've used it to remove deals that were on my paint, and it didn't take any clear off or anything
badfishOZ 2 years ago
Nope, there really isn't that much water. I did this on a rear window of my friends STI and it peeled right off, even with the defrost lines.
badfishOZ 2 years ago
won't the water from the steamer get all over the place...speakers in doors, etc?
chetatkinsdiet 2 years ago
That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm guessing yes it would.
tberg323 2 years ago
you know......windex with amonnia takes the glue off in seconds, dont think the whole using chemicals that strip paint would be a good option,
octaindreams 2 years ago
It just makes the tint bubble up and look terrible.
yourmom794 2 years ago
using laquer thinner on an old rag helps take the glue off super easy by just wiping down the window just dont get it on paint or seats
westsideballr97 2 years ago
I should have a decent video of that in a few weeks.
badfishOZ 2 years ago
what sucks is getting it off of the rear window due to the defroster..
rg92173 2 years ago 6
@rg92173 Using a steam cleaner will get it off. The slower you go the less residue will be left behind.
