I love how the republicans bashed this show, but if the president was a repbulican, trying to pass school prayer and give little kids semi-automatics and whatnot, they'd support it 1000%.
@jpease1223 I know that. reread I said "IF THE PRESIDENT WAS A REPBULICAN" IF IF IF. I was saying that IF the policital affiliation was a republican they wouldn't have a problem.
Richard and Bradley were my favorite, their chemistry was amazing! It sucked when they parted ways and fought later in the series but I always remember the earlier days of this show when it was the best! :)
I'm always blown away by the fact that all of these brilliant, character defining words were written by basically ONE man: Aaron Sorkin. I wish I were half as brilliant.
I love this episode. Well....... I love all the episodes of the west wing. Why is it that there are only clips. Can someone please post a full episode. That would be sooo great!
I highly doubt the man in the episode knew any of that before he bought his car. Either way, it paints him a hypocrite. Otherwise he would have a retort.
no it isnt american cars are plain shit. you dont want to pay for shit you dont buy it. dosent mean he has to not support them at the same time. also if enough people go for foreign cars stupid american car makers might just wise up and make better cars
I don't know about the exact states they're made in, but it is true that Toyotas sold in America are mostly made in the States by American workers under American middle management. So what if the senior management's Japanese? Since when do unions care if CEOs lose their jobs to more skilled foreign competition? I know I don't. Sounds like poetic justice to me.
> Since when do unions care if CEOs lose their jobs?
ANSWER: Since the time when those CEOs losing their jobs in America and heading back to their home countries meant that *the factories have close down* and *American union members have lost their jobs, too*.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE TOBY!!!!!!

That committeeman was such an idiot. Claiming American manufacturing is so important yet driving a foreign car.
IF a person thinks American manufacturing/American jobs are important then choose American products, or at least as American as possible.

You can't help but to love Toby, he was the best.

Toby was the conscience of the West Wing White House staff. He said the stuff other people wanted to say, but didn't have the guts to say.

What kind of car do you drive?
Toyota
Then shut up.
I wonder what he would have said if he would have said, "Chevy."
charismaticace 2 years ago 21
Toby would have asked if it was built here or in China.

Later on in this episode:
JOSH
So what would you have done if the guy told you he drove and American car?
TOBY
Find some other way of humiliating him.
v642336 2 years ago 12
@charismaticace: They talk about it. Toby says, "Find some other way of humiliating him".

And check out Toby's expression when he says the word 'please': he says it like it tastes bad!

Toyotas sold in the U.S. are mostly built in North Carolina, actually.........

By American workers under American middle-management and Japanese senior management, yes.
But that fact must be edited out--too inconvenient for the argument peddled by protectionists.

Well, I wish that was true, but I live in North Carolina and we don't have any auto assembly plants in the state (though not for lack of trying).
