The polling coming out of Connecticut shows huge support for the public option. For instance Quinnipiac's recent poll puts Connecticut dems at 76% in support of the PO. How is he doing what his constituents want when he's threatening to vote procedurally against the dems which he caucuses with and filibuster, when 70+% of Connecticut democrats WANT the public option? If you think he's getting elected after repeatedly spitting in the faces of the people he's supposed to be representing... wow.

i'm surprised only 76% of Dems in the state support the public option, that'd give him more reason to oppose it, since his base in the state already was forcibly shifted by Democrats away from them and towards independents and Republicans-and some moderate Dems, probly including that 24%. Unless you want to push him farther away, start up the genuflecting. He doesn't need you in Connecticut anymore as 2006 showed, but he'd probly be your nominee again if you got down on your knees and begged.

basic economics - government/socialist companies do not reduce costs or run efficiently. profit incentive drives efficiency. Durbin is right - there is no competition. This is because of the stupid regulations that restrict insurance company products across state lines. profit drives low costs for housing, food, and all other industry - would do it here if gov't got out of medicare and reduced regulation of industry.

Is that why in the US, 31 cents of every dollar spent on health care go to administrative fees, while in Canadas single-payer insurance system it's 1.3 cents? Yes, 1.3, not 13.

Capitalism is not the answer for everything. Health care being one of those things. There's a reason why every industrialized country except US has single-payer. It's more cost efficient. There's no billions going to CEO bonuses, lobbyists...I could go on and on.

you miss my point - gov't is already too involved in health car ein U.S. and regulations do not allow for true competition. WHis is biggest insurer right now? U.S. gov't through Medicare, Medicaid, and VA. If insurance companies actually could compete across state lines - watch what would happen. Same thing that happened with airline industry, telecom, etc. Things got cheaper and service improved. Capitalism is the answer for economic issues - history proves it....

By having a government-run health care option there will end up being no "competition" as Durbin says. the competition and choices will be out the window after everyone goes after this public option plan. the gov't will take over health care and we'll all be in deep shit. good for lieberman and i think he's a man for the people and not a man who worries more about keeping his job.
