Ugghhh...No.Playing higher is actually more ergonomically efficient and proper.Plus it makes playing better.Look at Paul Masvidal,Tosin Abasi,Chris Letchford,Michael Keene,Travis LaVier,and just about every jazz guitarist..Playing lower just to seem cool is dumb cause it only makes it harder to play guitar.
My advice to you to guitarist in the video would be to work on your chops more.Bit too sloppy.7/10

When I play, I play with the message I feel the guitar adds into the music. Sometimes I jump around simply because the song rocks. Obviously I dont jump around when I am playing slow clean parts. People (for the most part) react to music in two ways. #1: they relate to it and just "feel" the song emotionally. #2 the music rocks and gets them pumped.

Nice cover. I think your solo's would sound better if you tried to keep you hand in one spot and use more fingers instead of sliding your whole hand around. Also, it would probably help to move your whole arm instead of playing from your wrist. It sounded really good though.
@Dirk558 yeah, I started on a bass guitar. so I still sometimes do some things like I did while I played bass. in example.. the sliding instead of keeping my hand in one place. .
@Dirk558 I agree with keeping the hand in one position, but it's bad technique to use the whole arm when playing the more technical picking sections. Using the wrist gives better accuracy and control over the strings.

@Sp3ci41K my digitech pedal can connect to the computer via usb and acts as a preamp for recording. I use REAPER to record the audio and mix the recorded guitar with the original mp3. I line up the audio and video with Sony Vegas. I dont use the camera audio.

Maybe I'm just a prick about tuning, but you were a little out of tune the whole song, and it really shows on the solos. Otherwise, you did a very good job with the cover, and I liked your tone.
@wootacular Im not sure if I adjusted my intonation before this cover. I usually do, but maybe I was lazy that day. Also, you should know that there is no such thing as a perfectly tuned guitar. So, that could mean that even with my guitar having adjusted intonation, the original artist's guitar could still be different in its own way. No guitar is constructed exactly the same, and there are many variables that affect the frequency in which the string vibrates at.

I believe that Steve Vai worked with some dude to come up with some weird fret design that is supposed to allow the guitar to compensate for the tuning imperfection, but I have yet to see him use it that much...so I am not 100% sure if it works and I can't buy it because it costs too much:
@cl3tUs yes, its called the true temperament fretboard, but I am sure the guitarist from circa survive does not use a guitar equipped with one of these. Steve Vai did not work with the guy who made it, and even that system doesnt give just intonation in every key. It all depends on what key and relative minor you want to tune in, and what gauge of strings you use that determine how they shape the frets on the fretboard.

@Sp3ci41K my digitech pedal can connect to the computer via usb and acts as a preamp for recording. I use REAPER to record the audio and mix the recorded guitar with the original mp3. I line up the audio and video with Sony Vegas. I dont use the camera audio.

So, when I read yours after that I was like.. "omg..." .. sorry to have taken it offensively. . I was just mad because that other guy fully believed that I was a douche for looking a certain way and listening to circa survive... Maybe I'm just a prick about tuning, but you were a little out of tune the whole song, and it really shows on the solos. Otherwise, you did a very good job with the cover, and I liked your tone.

@wootacular Im not sure if I adjusted my intonation before this cover. I usually do, but maybe I was lazy that day. Also, you should know that there is no such thing as a perfectly tuned guitar. So, that could mean that even with my guitar having adjusted intonation, the original artist's guitar could still be different in its own way. No guitar is constructed exactly the same, and there are many variables that affect the frequency in which the string vibrates at.

I believe that Steve Vai worked with some dude to come up with some weird fret design that is supposed to allow the guitar to compensate for the tuning imperfection, but I have yet to see him use it that much...so I am not 100% sure if it works and I can't buy it because it costs too much:

@cl3tUs yes, its called the true temperament fretboard, but I am sure the guitarist from circa survive does not use a guitar equipped with one of these. Steve Vai did not work with the guy who made it, and even that system doesnt give just intonation in every key. It all depends on what key and relative minor you want to tune in, and what gauge of strings you use that determine how they shape the frets on the fretboard.

Pretty good form. Be careful of your third and fourth fingers flying up when you don't need them. It adds unnecessary tension.
