  • Don Felder wrote the main Hotel California riff.

  • Henley and frey ruined l.a.

  • "don't miss it." -neil young

  • No Poco either. Though enjoyable, the title is totally misleading and should be "From Crosby Stills & Nash to The Eagles". This is NOT the story of California Country Rock that culminated in The Eagles

  • GENE CLARK???

  • I wanted Part 8 of 8. It's nice to hear about a success story. Anyway, thanks for posting. It was great. And I will never be tired of the song Hotel California - with Don Felder and the others great musicians in that band. The Byrds, C,S,N & Y and other bands, singers in this series are of course also great.

  • Amazing Series...THANKS SO MUCH!

  • Where were The Dillards? If you haven't heard of them, look them up.Otherwise, great doc.

  • @FatFred2U. Well said !!

  • not nearly enough Byrds...

  • And right where we leave off in this documentary, Van Halen burst out of Hollywood in 1978 with their debut album...

  • @Franklinn2000 Actually, before Van Halen there was another group that completely redefined the Southern California sound. That band, another English transplant, was based around around the rhythm section from a late-sixties blues-rock band. Along the way, this band swapped band members, with the bassist eventually adding his wife on keyboard and vocals. However, there was still pieces missing that would eventually make this group into the one of the seventies most enduring sounds.

  • @FatFred2U The former blues-rock band finally recruited an unknown duo from San Francisco: Buckingham Nicks. The new members forever changed the combo's sound and lyrical direction, into something that has forever been linked to the "Southern California Sound". The final change stuck and by the time the seventies ended, this group had three monster albums, several world tours and legend status. Perhaps you've heard of Fleetwood Mac.

  • Outstanding documentary. It makes you wonder about the thousands of talented artists who headed to California and never made it.

  • Awesome documentary - thanks for taking the trouble to post it

  • Ya know they make a good point about cocaine. When I was younger my drug of choice was marijuana .I knew some people that did coke and they always acted like jack asses while using it.Nothing about ever appealed to me.Although I must admit I never tried it probably because of what I saw it do to people. I liked smoking pot so I really had no reason or desire to try another drug. I also liked the fact that is was not something I could OD on. People become hostile on coke

  • @MrBuc128 Coke is bad news, indeed...

  • Great documentary but how can they left out Fleetwood Mac? They were part of the Califronia sound as well especailly when "Rumours" hit back in 1977. Oh yeah sorry Mr. Geffen but "Thriller" has over took "Eagles Greatest Hits 71-75" as best selling album of all time.

  • @blachubear Yes that is a very good point. They definitely should have been part of this documentary

  • Thanks for posting - really.

  • you dont interview roger mcguinn? sorry then yr doc isn't yet complete.

  • @putdownan8dude No kidding eh? There's a direct line of progression form the Byrd's folk-rock with country influences to the Flying Burrito's - J.D. Souther - Ronstadt - Eagles. Way too much importance attributed to CSN and not enough to McGuinn/White/Parsons, et al.
