  • People in the UK may not know what that sound is, but i gaurentee 99% of Americans do. That being said, I would much rather already have my gun loaded and give a verbal warning. If there is someone in your house i would prefer them not know i was waiting for them until my gun was pointed to their chest. The sound of racking a gun will force them to make one of two decisions. A Run. B get ready for a gun fight. I would prefer option C In which they think, Oh shit someone just shot me in the face

  • why not just a 44?

  • Machetes and knives are very underrated for home defense.

  • the sawed off or short barreled shotgun 12 gauge with an extended mag is the best home DEFENSE gun. first of all if your smart they wont be able to get in unless it means breaking a window or kicking open a door. also cheaper dead bolts can be push picked these days. rounding a chamber is the scariest sound to be on the hurt side of it. for example outside a door, barricade, or window. having a loaded weapon is dangerous and mistakes are made. my rule is never load if not intending on shooting

  • Why my bond arms derringer is used to clear my house. 000 buck 5 pellet .410 shotgun shell works just fine in a home.

  • I myself like the sound of an M16 being locked and loaded, and it's more fun when you know it is full auto and the bad guy doesn't. LOL

  • As far as home defense is concerned, DON'T go looking for a bad guy in your house. Stay put. Now, if you have to go get a a family member from down the hall to protect them, then thats different.

Also, this vid proves that Jason Voorhees will not run from the sound of a racking shotgun.

  • Good.I've given some advice on defensive shotgun models (size, capacity, grip type, etc) but can't write a book because we are limited (some if us would write pages in YouTube if given the opportunity).I say someone with practice can defend themselves with any model but not the other way around. Practice makes perfect!

  • One if you house is being robbed call 911 first then grab the gun then move throught the house with the gun ready to roll check your corners if you can hear the robbers listen for them when the get quiet your close any home defense gun souls have a light do not turn on the light or any light till you think your close

  • Informative video......glad you showed the correct way to go through a doorway.

  • a loaded weapon is a safe weapon

  • great info!

  • I love the point that a sound of reload will possibly encourage the intruder to shoot at you.

  • I love the point that a sound of reload will possible encourage the intruder to shoot at you.

  • Ill take my benelli supernova against your machete any day. Just sayin.

  • Informative.

  • @cornishprivateer,your video is so informative I wish it were longer. thank you

I was so happy when I heard someone finally adressing this shotgun cycle myth....that the threat is going to run away just hearing the sound bla bla bla and which is just a lie its so true and I always knew it

  • @2ndamendrights Cheers!!

  • @2ndamendrights I like the video. the only problem is who doesn’t know what a shotgun cycle sounds like, Everybody knows that sound. It's on t.v in video games and in music. Unless your Amish you know the sound. If someone breaks in your house to kill you nothing will make them run away. If someone breaks in your house for a tv and hears the gun they will run. Most home break ins are petty crimes and they are unarmed.

  • @cornishprivateer,your video is so informative I wish it were longer. thank you

  • LOVE this style of view, Really brings the reality of these situations more into perspective. Great job mate!

  • I imagine that 99% of the thugs that break into house are vary familiar with the sound of a pump shotgun being racked. I leave one in the chamber, so they don't run out my house.

    .

  • solid advice. i disagree about the sound of a shotgun being pumped would go unrecognized but it would telegraph the intentions of the defender. still though that is a very good tactic for clearing doorways

  • LOLOL - someone breaks into my pad, I simply take my Mossy 500 Pistol Grip with Double 0 Buck and shoot, I aint gonna creep around...

  • 1. Never keep a loaded round in your gun. The most likely person you will shoot will be you. This is not the wild west, you don't need quick draw. If a bad situation is happening, you will know it and have plenty of time to rack a round. 2. Most thieves (except the gangsta retards) fear contact and confrontation, and will flee at contact if. Faster than hell if you yell a threat at them to leave. 3. Liberals are more liberal about gun ownership, that's why they are called liberals.

  • Nice...ty.

  • who doesnt recognize that sound?

  • I've been looking for a wood buttstock and foregrip for my mossberg 500. Any idea where I can get one like the one on the shotgun in this video?

  • Or get a mossberg 550

  • 0:51 racks the slide back and moves toward the blade without racking it forward? Makes total sense...

  • Although I keep a loaded chamber, it doesn't seem realistic that an intruder in a home is going to stick around for a firefight when they hear that there is someone in the house armed with a shotgun (In the majority of cases). Look at any security footage online of a robbery. How many choose to stick around and fight when they face an armed opponent and how many run towards the door as fast as they can? There is a reason the presence of a firearm can deter most crimes.

  • The last tip was the best one

  • Telegraphing with the shotgun is easily avoided by fragging the room first.

  • Good video. I totally agree. Cycling a pump shotgun is over-rated and probably dangerous. A real defense situation will not be a Hollywood-esque shooting gallery of bad guys standing around waiting for you to air them out. You may have to remain as quiet as possible to preserve composure and protect innocent people until the moment of firing. I can hardly imagine wanting to be heard cycling a shotgun while the enemy has his already-chambered handgun pointed in my direction!

  • @SphinctersForever It actually works, I'm living proof. I had someone break into my home few years back. As soon as I heard noises from the living room i grabbed my shotty, racked a round...they scattered like cockroaches and ran back outside. Just as the top-rated comment says...99% of criminals, once realizing ur armed, will turn and run for greener pastures. Most criminals don't come looking for a gun fight.

  • Good point!

  • Shooting a SLUG thru the wall at a place where only an intruder would be will telegraph where you are too! LOL course it wont MATTER then:)

  • @HerbWalker

Of course the problem with shooting through a wall is, unless you truly know that your opponent is using that part of the wall as concealment, you end up breaking an important rule if you shoot (being aware of your target and what's beyond).

Now, I'm not saying that you should never shoot through a wall at all because, hey, if you kill the bad guy doing that, then that's what matters. But, you still have to make sure your shot is going to count for what you want it to count for.

  • The solution to this is TRAININGj and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTIICE

  • So is it training to prevent and deal with kidnap and ransom situations or do you offer a kidnapping and ransoming service?

  • Using CAR or Short Stocking you can eliminate telegraphing. I agree with busting the racking makes them run myth.

  • I don't think you know much about shotguns because you can work the action without taking the gun from your shoulder and if you're up against a guy with a machete in close combat or tight places he's not much better off than you. A machete needs space to build up momentum for impact but if they had a hunting knife then you'd be in jam, but if theres room for a machete to swing then there's room for a shotgun to be swung or stabbed barrel first into the opponent.

  • thnk god im the one with a machete in my house ;)

  • Never make the mistake of thinking that a because someone is a criminal it makes them stupid... there are plenty of smart ones out there, and they don't have any more interest in getting killed (or getting into a gunfight) than you do. 99 percent of them, once realizing you are armed and prepared to kill them, are going to turn tail, run, and make for your hyper liberal neighbor that has a anti gun sign in his front yard :)

  • @testy462 Thumbs up. But there's plenty of them out there who will trade shots with you without blinking and are not afraid to get shot. Criminals will change their tactics if theyre targeting someone that they believe is armed. Being armed will deter most punks though thats for sure, but people advertising themselves as gunowners with bumperstickers and such, are not much smarter than the lib advertising themselves as passive.

  • @testy462 Being a liberal doesn't have anything to do with being opposed to firearms.

I notice that you're from the U.S. In the states, the liberal ideology is not represented. The Republican party and Democratic party differ in that the Democratic party stands a little more liberal on social issues than the Republicans, that's it.

As far as fiscal policies, both parties are identical. In the U.S. the Democratic and Republican parties are both conservative.

  • @testy462 I agree! I live in Houston and there isn't a criminal anywhere around here who wouldn't know what the rack of a shotgun sounds like. I do like his tip on pointing you shotgun or rifle down when clearing a office or home.

  • @testy462 this hyper liberal is well armed thank you. :P

  • @godzilla74114 then your not a hyper liberal just a liberal and that i can live with

just dont take my car from me or there will be a cival war 2.0

  • @testy462 their cowards.. i know from experience

  • @testy462 You're absolutely right! Criminals robbing a home are doing it because they believe the instant rewards outweigh the risk. The sound of a shotgun being racked notifies them that their personal risk has increased. The result: the vast majority of criminals will flee. It's all simple psychology.

  • Machete and shotgun... Bloody!

  • It would probably be beneficial to show how to pie corners with shotguns at the high ready position. I know my house better than anyone so I make it my buisness knowing how to take each corner. I agree with shucking a shell not scaring off a bad guy. My philosophy on that is that most burglaries happen during the day when you aren't home. Most violent break ins happen at night when you are home

  • Just thinking out loud here...I've always wondered if racking the slide would signal an armed intruder to start firing at you through the wall.

  • True, a barrel can telegraph you position when entering a door way. I do not agree with having the muzzle pointed down though. Keep the weapon in your sholder and aim chest high. If you enter a room and the bad guy is right there, your muzzle will be in good position and you can quickly pull the trigger. Different tactic/ tech for thought. Control your weapon and don't have it break any plains of sight, shorter barrels help.

  • The speaker seems to make the case for shotgun with a (true) pistol grip style stock. Such a gun is easier to carry with the muzzle pointed downward. I briefly owned a Remington 870 defensive shotgun with a traditional stock, and it always felt funny to carry it around in anything but a high "port arms" position --- not very practical . . . or safe. I just bought a pistol grip style shotgun (with a full length buttstock). It's much better.

  • @jdarling2k i have a Benelli with a pistol grip stock and a mossberg witha regular style stock, i can only find miner advantages for the pistol grip stock, shooting with one arm, really being the only advantage i have found. But no two shooters are the same i guess.

  • Great video, very informative. Thanks.

  • whats your favorite close quarters firearm?

  • @134paintball431 Whichever one I have at hand that will go bang when I pull the trigger ;-) I like 9mm CZ-75’s and Zastava CZ-99’s.

  • @cornishprivateer Best anwser to that question i have ever heard. I like my Sig 229, but thats just because it was my first "fighting" pistol and is the pistol i have shot the most. If i had bought any other pistol instead of the 229 then that pistol would be my perfered choice.

  • @cornishprivateer No doubt not having a round in the chamber is a B A D idea, however you would have to be some sort of cave man from mars not to know what the sound of a pump gun cycling is. Unless you don't have a TV, I find it impossible.

Gotta say too, 99 percent of intruders are NOT breaking in to look for a fight... they are looking for a VICTIM, and a helpless one at that. Not many are going to charge forward into a fight after hearing that sound.

  • @cornishprivateer I am wondering if you like cz-75's which I do as well what do you think about sig sauers. Since their both high quality all steel guns I am just wondering what do you think makes them better or worse or is it simply personal preference?

  • @ChadronMike I am happy with CZ's or Sig's both good guns... A CZ-75 is more comfortable for me though!!

  • Great info!!!

  • Great video!
