  • I dont know what he's saying, but I'm sure it's something sexy.

  • Thumbs up if you were listening to this in 2003...eat that hipsters

  • @mortar12 Doesn't that make you a hipster for saying that? :$

  • 0:32 well i yeahhhaaaaannnnyyeahyhayhaeahhanehenehenhe darlin'

  • i fuckin love this song

  • This shit is absolutely revolutionary. We will still be talking about these guys 50 years from now. The best music to grace human ears in at least 30 years.

  • @longbowfosho "This shit is absolutely revolutionary."

Um, I'm enjoying it, but it sounds 40 years old; retro, not revolutionary.

  • @ReductioAdAbsurdum this was recorded on a 1980s Tascam 388 8-track recorder in Patrick's basement, of course its going to sound retro, no need to bash on someones idea of what they think of the music.

  • @waabababab123 "no need to bash on someones idea of what they think of the music"

First, I know how it was recorded. That's only part of why it sounds retro; the other part is that it is *musically* retro; could be a lost Trower recording.

Second, I'm not bashing on anyone's opinion of the music, just their misuse of an adjective. This music is decidedly (and as you point out, deliberately) retro, which is the *opposite* of "revolutionary". It's like saying up is down; it's just nonsensical.

  • @ReductioAdAbsurdum Well... In being retro, can't it be revolutionary? Obviously the two words being together is a bit of a juxtaposition, but that doesn't necessarily make it incorrect. The music could be revolutionary in the sense that BY being retro, it's making a statement on or against modern music; maybe against over-production, over complication, who knows. Revolution simply means fundamental change, which a retro recording of a (great) song may or may not achieve. Just an idea, take care

  • > Obviously the two words being together is a bit of a juxtaposition

"Juxtaposition"? They are nearly antonyms. It's like saying something is tall short, or fat thin.

    > Revolution simply means fundamental change

Yes, and retro means *unchanged*; a style/fashion/norm from an earlier time used unchanged in the present. It comes from the word retrograde, meaning movement toward the past, rather than progress toward the future (i.e. new, revolutionary).

  • @ReductioAdAbsurdum No disrespect, but I think you're worried about the precise definitions here so much that you missed my point in the last post. Revolutionary implies change towards the future, but you can still have a revolution which calls for a style or method from the past to come back into fashion. That makes a "retro revolution" possible. So you are correct- if you choose the classic definitions of the words, they will simply not agree. I don't think we'll find a decisive answer to

  • @ReductioAdAbsurdum this though, considering that our language can be more convoluted and confusing than our lower intestines. I guess we can maybe agree that the user simply meant "THIS SONG FUCKING ROCKS", and agree to disagree on the definitions and concepts of revolution and retro. Take it easy :)

  • > I think you're worried about the precise definitions

Because that's all we're debating: the meaning of words.

    > a revolution which calls for a style or method from the past

    rev·o·lu·tion·ary

"new and completely changing the way that something is done, thought about, or made" --- MacMililan

"constituting a major or fundamental change"

    -- Websters

A retro *revival* is certainly possible, but not a retro revolution. That's like taking a "hot cold" shower; it's a nonsensical phrase.

  • @ReductioAdAbsurdum I don't see how a movement consisting of a return to old recording techniques in the music industry is unable to fit the description of "constituting a major or fundamental change". There are literally dozens of definitions for the words "revolutionary" and "retro", and many of them fit quite well together.

We might describe it as "retro" and longbofosho might see it as "revolutionary", but according to the many, many available dictionaries, both words are technically right.

  • @QuotidianHegemony Cause it was :P this album and definatly rubber factory was

  • @TSadler666 You are kidding?!! LOL. Thats freaking awesome. These guys have inspired me to get into playing the blues. The fact that they made this in a garage just shows that you don't need fancy equipment or a ton of cash to make great music.

  • How does this only have 100,000 views?

  • Talent-Soul-Meaning

  • how can anyone dislike this song? i had an eargasm the first time I heard it.

  • Say these play in newcastle on sataday .. absolutely amazing patrick and dan are the most amazing people alive

  • His guitar is fuzzier than most peaches!

  • @TaffyRaphie or jack whites big muff >=}

  • @matthk3 :O different kind of fuzz altogether

  • @TaffyRaphie it kinda sounds like he took a wah and put the tone off. it makes a damn good fuzz.

  • @TaffyRaphie They really really really remind me of the white stripes. Like...a lot!

And they play blues too! : D

  • @whitestripeskid

Yes in that there are only 2 members. Other than that, its not even close.

  • @DallasJRC it's arguable, the super thick fuzzy blues is what the White Stripes is all about as well, though black keys are much more laid back. Their latest album however is completely different from the White Stripes. Wicked bands and music thougha nd thats what matters

  • Comment removed

  • @TaffyRaphie fuzzier than a vintage pornstar's hoohaa?

  • Every song these guys write is awesome

  • @yankinmachaine

You're a loser dude . Pick up you're guitar instead of re visiting YouTube just to argue with randoms about you're likes and dislikes.

  • fuck, you guys are shit heads if you dont like it just dont respond.

  • will you guys down there quit argueing, black keys are awsome, problem resolved

  • @completeaddiction Right. A ripoff of a ripoff, overprocessed to sound even worse. I'm sorry, but I was in shitty garage bands in highschool that sounded better than this crap.

  • Mud-swamp-boogie-blues. The lead singer sounds like he sold his soul to the devil. Who woulda thought the bluesiest band around today would be two white guys. Awesome!

  • Clobberrella i hear yer there i hear yer, cant stop itching nor playing this track

  • first time hearing black keys and first time hearing thickfreakness..... i fell in love!

  • awesome!

  • awesome

  • @YankinMichaine lemme yank your crank, why come here? look elsewhere for some thing else to nay say fool. the black keys are real, raw and i couldnt fault em if i tried. you should spend more time encouraging the blues back. and if u cant feel the soul and heart on this track...

  • @goody1305 I play the blues (as an amateur, granted) and I know and support blues musicians in my local scene. This isn't the blues, this is watered down hipster crap. The Black Keys aren't bringing the blues back anymore than the white stripes brought classic rock back. There are plenty of bands doing new and innovative things with blues, but these guys aren't one of them.

  • @YankinMichaine I think that you are wrong on this one bud. I think if Eric Clapton were born in 1980, this is what his music would sound like. The keys are traditional blues, but they maintain a very modern sound. Much like Clapton in the late 60's with Cream.

  • @johnjones882 Cream brought in this psychedelic thing that was novel - it wasn't a straight blues band. Even the Yardbirds, derivative though they were, brought an appealing popiness to the music that was new. I was only impressed with the Yardbirds until I heard the originals they covered, which were much, much better, but I can see their importance. But The Black Keys just like low quality recycled Yardbirds, a ripoff of a ripoff by ppl who aren't in the same league as Clapton, Beck or Paige.

  • @YankinMichaine wow took you 3 months to write a comeback? just leave good music be. there aint nothing wrong with the white stipes either, your just a success hating amateur musician who apparently has a thing for slating strong powerful two man bands
