Ive seen a lot of form videos and seriously as long as your ass was on the bench thats a decent back arm, sholder blades pushed back as a base your solid.
Looked heavy too, good form bro. Dont listen to the broscience Ph.Ds around youtube.
It's powerlifting form. Arching, pulling the bar apart, flexing everything... all that stuff for stability and a higher max. Plus your spine is naturally curved, granted we do arch as much as possible.
Arching is bad for your back becaus eit puts a lot of stress on your lower vertabrae.. i had a stress fractures in my L5, and for a while after i was rehabing i benched with legs on the bench to prevent arch.
That's why we arch our mid back. I had a similar problem when I did the metal militia bench form. Thankfully some ppl in my church and I prayed for healing and now it's feeling great. I'm actually gonna try benching with my legs up to improve control. That's how my pastor benches 405! lol
LOL....your back has 3 natural arches....my friend is writing a book called 10 Ways to be an Asshole...number 5 is benching with your legs up...haha...dumbass
Dude, you are going to end up hurting yourself with form like that. I know you don't want criticism but you should start listening what people have to say.
I want criticism, but I want it to be constructive. If you could not only tell me what is wrong, but also why it is wrong (IE, how will I hurt myself by doing it) then I will listen. Though, you should probably check out newer videos of my benching since this one is very old.
and why is the arch too much? Tearing down someone elses work is the easiest thing to do. If you want to post here, fine, but if you're gonna criticise, do it constructively; tell me why it is wrong and preferably name your source. This is what I've said to everyone here who obviously don't know what a powerlift bench is or what powerlifters do to reduce ROM in order to be able to lift more weight.
the only thing you need to do is tuck your legs underneath you more...check out Westside Barbell bench pressing technique...best there is, thats where i learned and they are the best in the country/world...tuck the feet under our ass n get up under your toes to use the legs more
@karky18 the arch in your back is fine as long as your shoulders and butt stay on the bench. Go watch Eric Lilliebridge bench press. After that you'll know it's okay to arch your back.
@karky18 Don't listen to these criticizing idiots. It's fine. Arching your back is a good way of benefiting the whole chest in the workout. Benynjoon comment is spot on. Keep up the good work mate
I'm not sure where in the vid you see the pot belly. What time?
Also, if you know what perfect form is, why don't you tell me and post a video demonstrating. Also, of course, you should tell why your way is correct.
and what muscles does a bench press work??? your Chest and shoulders the heavier the weight gets if your arching you bak it will tear the muscles. look at the power lifters either have no arch or very tiny you have a significant arch in you bak
your can injure your back that lift is for chest and some shoulders but not back when u arch you are putting strain on Ur lower and middle back which can give Ur problems later down the road
If you can stand it kick your feet back more to increase your leverage and it will increase your back arch. This will also help keep your butt on the bench therefore making it a legal press. But the back arch looked good.

No? Oh well, didn't think so.

You sound ignorant. It's better form than most of what I see in the Gym by guys with six pack abs.

What I mean is that I do everything I can to reduce ROM.
Powerlifters pretty much always arch their backs a lot, they don't lie there flat.

coloradopimp1992 3 years ago
but why does arching the back put strain, and if it does put strain, why is that strain so big that it can cause injury?
And I'm not lifting for my chest and shoulders, I'm lifting for my bench press.
karky18 3 years ago
make sure ur back is flat arching it bad for u
coloradopimp1992 3 years ago
Why is arching bad for the back?
karky18 3 years ago
haha well back when i made that stupid comment i guess i used bad form i got it now
slalom987654321 3 years ago
My back is flat? My back is arched in this video.
Anyways, I realize this video is not 100% correct form, and I don't claim it to be either. My form has changed quite a bit from this video.
Arching the back is used in all powerlifting competitions. As long as your butt remains on the bench it's ok.
karky18 3 years ago
Can't see a vid of you benching anywhere, Kcriminal.

i was just wondering if u can get credit for bench press if u arch your back because i see some people do it but some people dont
wallace343 3 years ago
Normally as long as your ass stays on the bench you're all set.
