@NGsleepy147 The third seat in the tank called the CITV station is what you need. Soflam works too but in this video we use the citv. Although for ground vehicles you don't need a CITV/soflam to use the guided shell. You can't target air vehicles without it though.

@ModernEditors u can jus change ur mic VOIP if im nt mistaken and you can communicate with the whole team..that is of course if they hav a mic, but yhu can still ask one of them to do laser designation

@DGOfTheCentury Unfortunately on the PC there is no way to talk to random team/squad mates. The only VOIP option is with friends.

@etnies6078 You need the 3rd man if you want to be able to hit helicopters with the guided shell. Also having the 3rd man locking ground targets for you will increase the damage the guided shell will do to them.

The CITV Station (3rd seat) is the last unlock for the tank requiring 100,000 points.

AWESOME teamwork guys! We had a Javelin guy on the ground busting tanks with us on Caspian today, three of us inside the Abrams and him on the hilltop, it was delicious! Did less well on Tehran, too many obstacles to keep an effective lock and fever tanks. Only works well on large maps. Not that many points for spotting, but repair and the pure joy of tank busting is worth it.

@96crooksb I think it's something like 10 points for painting the target another 40 or 50 if someone hits the target with a weapon that uses the locking on part (javalin, guided shell, etc). Also 10 points for spotting the enemy. So no it's not a lot of points for just sitting in the seat. You will most likely, however, be outside repairing the tank constantly giving you tons of points. So if you don't just sit there in the CITV you can make decent points.

1. What is the advantage of locking onto tanks with laser before shooting guided shell?

2. Can countermeasures like IR smoke or flares prevent the laser guided shell from hitting?

@SnopakProductions 1. For locking on to tanks the only advantage is they might pop their smoke early if they have it.

2. IR smoke can stop any guided rocket/shell from hitting you or locking on to you. Flares don't do anything to stop guided shells, the only way to stop a guided shell from killing a helicopter is to prevent the lock on with things like ECM. Once the guided shell is launched its pretty much game over unless you can get behind something to block it.

@SnopakProductions You do get thermal view in the CITV position but for the driver you get the regular thermal optics unlock in the second category.

You get more damage in if you switch to guided shell after you fired AP and then back to AP after guided shell is fired, even if you don't have laser up. The 2 will hit the target at the same time for a good 60-90% damage depending where you hit.

i have the guided shells but i cant lock on the enemy aircraft. any ideas?

@SuperSonic285 You need to have someone using the CITV station (the third seat) in the tank or the SOFLAM (with the recon) to laser designate targets for you.

@SuperSonic285 Yes you can place the soflam then get into the tank but that will leave you as an easy target not being able to repair yourself.

@joshuame505 Well it does take 2-3 guys to use though. I do think that there needs to be some way for a heli to be able to stop the guided shell or maybe the shell should just disable them with about 30-20% health left.

@joshuame505 Its not really all that hard to kill a tank with guided shells really. All you need to do is stay out of its range which isn't very far and spray fire down on them, the tank also can't hit you when you hover above it. 2 good heli players versus 2 tank players should still be able to come out winning.

Awesome teamwork. My buddy and I do this but its harder to communicate with the Mic issues on PS3.
