  • Hi GibsonGuitarCorp, i watched a show of Derek Trucks in 1995, is an excellent guitarist!

    Very good video!

  • Anyone knows where to find the complete version of "I wish i knew" from this video? Thanks!!

  • he , john frusciante and john mayer are the new guitar gods!

  • @MrPimwiddershoven Dont you ever mention those two guys in the same breath as Trucks again. Derek is a prodigy, on not only slide guitar but in several disciplines, and he is a music scholar as well as a master of improvisation. He is humble and brilliant. He is one of the highest forms of musical development on this planet.

  • @MrPimwiddershoven They're not on his level. I think the only guys that compare are Landreth, Bonnamassa and Joe Satriani, and even they sort of pale in comparison. Derek is so organic and his solos are insane but never interfere with the song

  • @thenut8522 .. there all different man.. you should try to compare players...

  • @MrPimwiddershoven Nowhere near, mate.

  • @MrPimwiddershoven Trucks, however...

  • you can tell a great band when they look like there having fun and sounding like they are complete pros...

  • I love Derek, but I'm not a big fan of his singer. His voice gets on my nerves.

  • @josh1988ist I agree. Theres smokey and then theres just plain gravel!

  • good guitarist amazing slide player top 10 for sure in slide.

  • why do people like glass slides? they don't resonate as long or as loudly as a steel slide and they break.

  • @gatoradeee It has a cleaner sound than a metal slide. And actually Derek uses a special plastic for his slides.

  • @gatoradeee They have a cleaner, warmer sound than metal. I do agree that glass slides are a pain for breakages though; I've had two glass slides break on me within the past year. I'm currently using a Dunlop slide that's essentially a chunk of solid machined brass with a 1/4" thick wall and, unsurprisingly, I can't say that I've ever had it break on me.

  • @Vanguard448 i have a chrome dunlop. don't know if derek is using a glass though. i think he's using some kind of special plastic slide.

  • THE TONE!

    My God, the tone.

  • @jb1563700 you are so right the tone is amazing go to derek trucks and zztop he plays a solo that is just ridiculos one of my favs

  • Derek Trucks.......IS THE FUCKING MAN!...YAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

  • One of the greatest guitarist of all time......

  • I saw him live when he played with The Alman Brothers and The Grateful Dead!

  • how do u approach the band in the early days when naming the band and just say..."ok, im the guitarist, i want the band named after me"

  • @Glew1992 When you're fucking amazing and everyone you're playing with knows it

  • @Glew1992

you just play a mindblowing solo and show orgasmic original material you write.

  • You can argue all day about who's better, Derek or Sonny Landreth, but it's not about 'better' or 'greater'. What a blessing to have such great artists to inspire all of us! Is an apple better than a pear, the ocean better than the mountains? To compare is human, but we should learn to love everybody for their own unique gifts.

  • joe bonamassa all the way

  • sounds really good. watch my band if you're bored. any comments would be appreciated. The best song is "speak my heart". The other one is a foxey lady cover, and the other original---- well my singing kind of ruins it. heh eh he

  • the slide solo at the totally got me

  • hes alright

  • this guy is great, love him with his allman brother's stuff

  • I love the riff for crow jane

  • Great band!!

They shoul change the name do

  • John Fruciante is the real deal

  • @kartman74usa Fruciante is average. yea, he's good and pro and all, but he doesn't stand out. if there were 100 guitarists all jamming at one youd be able to automatically pick truks riffing and style out of the crowd. this man has a rare gift. he has soooo much heart and soul. he's one of the only modern day guitarists who can make the guitar sing

  • @jMs224586 im not agree with you my friend....the fact is frusciante has thousands of fans around the world....and derek is jut know it in US......and i guess john is much much rich than derek......any way they are god guitar players....

  • @jMs224586 Ive been listening to RHCP and John Frusciante (not Fruciante) for years, and he really amazing musical talent, and trust me, he deffinatly stands out. He doesnt have as much of a Blues/Jazz background such as Trucks, hes been more into Hendrix and Zappa. If you want to hear some good Frusciante guitar work, I recommended you check out "RHCP-Live at Slane Castle" or just some of his solo compilation vids here on youtube, he really is good ;) (btw not dissing on trucks, hes awesome!)

  • @StratPlayer17

cool. thanks. id love to hear more. thats why i push the envelope. nice to get a reply from someone who wasnt an ass too! lol

  • I can barely handle how good Derek Trucks is. He was born to do this.

  • a truly gifted man, and a great band to play with. The vocals are fabulous.

  • They sound just like the Allman Brothers.

  • @DreadfulSolemnity not really, what gives them that sound is dereks slide playing. because he provides the slide for the allman brothers.

  • @DuaneAllmanisGod Nope, Warren usually plays the slide with the Bros.

  • @spreadneck7 actually warren hasnt played lead slide with the bros since derek joined and dickie betts was booted. ive seen them 7 times since derek has been with them and he has always provided the slide. so im sorry but you are wrong.

  • ahh i didn't know that kofi and oteil were related! that's awesome!

  • ive seen them live a little over a year ago very sick band!

  • what a deep voice that drummer has.. lol

  • @TheJuliusJT gay......

  • great video

That band just makes me happy

  • such a special vibe these guys have. awesome!!

  • He's a legend. Just wish he'd get a real vocalist.

  • the vocalist aint bad...if you can do better go talk to derek..jerk

  • I think I could go outside, swing a dead cat by the tail and hit someone who is a far better singer and fit for master Trucks. :) However, there is alot to be said for getting along with bandmates, so at least he's got that going for him.

  • every band had a fault or weakness. the lead vocals are definitely the weakness, but you can't say he isn't trying. haha.

  • @musiccminion not that i agree with him, but he never said he could do better. he just doesnt like the singer.

  • @ejlister i think the singer adds soul to the band... he seems a bit shy but i believe this band has the right pieces

  • Great Guitarist @

    ROCK ON

    John Denner

  • is that tiger woods on the keyboard??

  • he is a greatest of all time

    4th 4 me

    Jimmy.Jimi, Stevie, Dereck, Ace, Gary

  • @LZFAN2009

Who do you mean by Ace and Gary?

  • I'd assume that he means Ace Frehley & Gary Moore...

  • What song is that at 3:15?

  • That's the end of "All I Do"

  • Just sliiiide Derek....

  • One of the greatest guitarist of all time......

  • @hsblm31 The Dereks guitar is timeless

  • One of the greatest guitarists of our time, hands down

  • @getthetapjj Maybe one of the best "blues rock" guitarists, but there are a lot of jazz an classical players who are technically superior, DEFINITELY. You may not LIKE any jazz or classical, but the most technically advanced players tend to be in those genres. It's the same thing with a lot of instruments like drums and base and such.

  • @ybyainc not that it matters but the intonation he gets with the slide is 'technically' fucking impossible!

  • @getthetapjj No, he IS the greatest guitarist of our time. One of the best of all time :)

  • @SirPwn4lot John Frusciante. That is all

  • @iGlennS In my opinion, there's not even a close comparison.

  • @SirPwn4lot same opinion here.

  • @iGlennS Two very different guitarists with very different styles, both very good. I don't think that you can really say which is better than the other when they are so different.

  • Derek Trucks is an incredible musician..

  • Joe plays cool but shallow riffs.....

Boy you must have bought the wrong CD

  • Shallow riffs? I'm sorry but I don't think you have heard much of Joe Bonamassa's records or live performances. Nothing against Derek, though. He really is one of my favorite slide guitar players (along with Ry Cooder)

  • I have besides Joe having a major attitude problem thinking he's great, he's an aweful song writer. Has Joe ever had a song that really connects with everyone? No, I'm not saying he sucks, but he isn't a good song writer.

  • I totally agree. Joe Bonamassa should be teaching guitar at a university somewhere and leave record making to artists and communicators. I, too, am sick of two-dimensional "guitar hero" types who can't make people think/feel anything deeper than "Wow, what a great player." A lot of the seminal blues guys were horrible guitar players, but they could make you feel exactly what they were feeling. That's what I look for - not Dumbles or a million notes - just give me something honest and real!

  • Amen...well said.

  • hell yea

  • People look for different things in music. Joe doesn't profess to be the best songwriter, but albums pay the bills for musicians and are just necessary. I can't see the problem with just accepting musicians for what they are, instead of disrespecting them for what they aren't.

That's just my opinion, and yours is as valid as mine and anyone elses.

  • I kinda agree about the shallow thing

  • wow...when Derek slide...love it!!!!!

  • whether its reincarnation or whatever, somehow duane allman lives on inside of derek trucks. its amazing.

  • Derek plays almost always in Open E with slide and without. He is undoubtable one of the greatest guitarist ever. I hope he always keeps his laid back, humble persona.

  • god...that tone he has is unmatched by anyone in the music industry.

  • DTB ROCKS

  • At 8:00 is he playing in his usual open E tuning or is he using standard tuning???????

  • open e

  • Definitely open E. The easiest way to tell is watching finger transitions from the B string to the G/G# string.

  • He only plays in open e. You can play anything you want to in open E just requires knowing many different versions of chords up and down the neck some that are in strange positions but most arent that bad. Know your 7ths, 9ths and minors and you can shift those positions up and down the neck depending on what key you want to play in, and bam u can play pretty much any blues song ever made.

  • I've never seen him not play with a slide like he did in the first bits of him playing. Good to know he can do it! But seriously, this guy is fucking incredible.

  • He does alot of songs without his slide, and then midway through the song he will pull his slide out of his left pocket, he does it so fast he doesnt skip a beat at all and its hard to even notice the transition. He's been doing this for a while, check out the Good Morning Little School Girl vid from 2000, he plays rhythm without it, then pulls out the slide for the solo.

  • whats the metal thing in the bridge of his sg?

  • a tremolo

  • It's actually a tailpiece.

  • It used to be a vibrato but the arm has been removed.

  • I've seen Derek play live several times, and watched plenty of his videos. I've never seen any of his SGs with a vibrato or a vibrato arm on them - just look at the bridge, it's not even setup to move. What would be the point for a slide player to have a vibrato?

  • I said the arm was removed but the tailpiece is still there.

  • As far as I know, and I could be wrong, he never had a moving bridge to begin with. Just the tailpiece.

  • SG's rule, baby!!

  • its interesting how focused derek trucks is when he plays.....its almost like there is no emotion being wasted on his "expressions." All his emotion goes solely into his playing.... totally awesome

  • you see how hipocritical are peoples..if someone would play faster some shred or something like really fast blues and would act like derek you would instantly say omg this is shit there is no emotions...ccc

  • whats his tuning?

  • open E

  • COUNT M"BUTU!!! derek doesn't have the coolest name in the band, but he really knows how to make that guitar sing

  • God.

  • Saw them 2 days ago in Italy...

We spent time togheter before and after the show, awesome, very simple men, so amazing and full of joy...

thank you guys, god bless ya!

  • i saw him with santana last year

  • Derek Trucks makes me laugh when I see him play. It's like he is waiting for the bus; that soul comes from somewhere unseen. I saw him play with Eric Clapton and I haven't been the same since

  • Damn I miss Electric Lady Studios!!! Whatup Lee!!

  • One of the greatest bands to ever come out. Also one of the most underrated bands to ever come out.

  • DTB on the 25th in Edmonton...WOO WOO

  • derek's awesome! and such a nice guy too

  • Unspoken Languages, wow, that says

a LOT. love this, personal stuff from

    the band!

I get to see DTB this Thursday in Ft. Wayne, Indiana....EXCITED! ! ! !

    PEACE

  • "My dad had a few friends that played guitar..." (4:00). As far as understatements go, that's pretty funny.

  • hehe yeah! i know there is alot of hard work in dereks style, but you cant deny that he is a lucky sob lol!

  • is it luck or is it preparation meeting opportunity?

  • hehe, that would be the latter!

  • Oh i just love this band... I think i might be one of the only 10 people in Denmark who knows them...Unfortunately the environment around popular music doesn't allow these kinda groups to become worldwide in the good way....only borring music but profitable music is promoted :(

  • yo i'm from denmark and i know alot who likes derek truck

  • Awesome band, great music

  • for once I can say.. ITS ALL GOOD. oh yeah.

  • *hugs Derek Trucks band*

  • What a humble guy, and his music is just beautiful. I'm going to check out more...

  • ive never met derek but he just comes across as super nice and down to earth. i also like the fact that he doesnt use crazy effects pedals much if at all. he has great tone aswell.

  • Wrong. He has the GREATEST tone!

  • All I hear these days are that music is dead. This is an exception to the rule and there are few others that are keeping real music on life support. DTB happens to be the most passionate, expressive and soulful out there right now. If you are lucky enough to have them playing in your area, by all means go. You will be blown away or be left without a pulse. I can't think of enough good things to say about them. Simply amazing.

  • Agreed!

You know it's a great band when they've got those big stupid-ass grins going on after every single song.

  • Man, Derek sure is one of the most soulful guitarists I have even heard ... Soulines is a fantastic album. If you dont have it, BUY IT. You won't regret it!

  • Comment removed

  • yeah man, you're on crack. mike mattison is dirty.

  • Derek Trucks for starters...

  • You are out of your mind that guy can sing all the lows and all the highs, youtube Derek Trucks- Songlines, and thats a great example of what this man is capable of. He also has his own bad on the side I believe, wouldn't mind seeing him hes pretty incredible.

  • i think hes good

  • he sings all the tonalities.. so... he's a good singer actually

  • Its so nice knowing that the blues is still around.. im so happy that theres derek trucks

  • I'm diggin the little derek in the braves hat

  • Is this dude in a band?

  • Allman Brothers Band and his own band...The Derek Trucks Band

  • damn that boys voice got some real soul, what a great blend of talents!

  • he is the cousin of another player on my HS soccer team

  • Man thats great tone and playing and great band to .

  • Just like the old days. A real band jamming. The record companies used to nurture their bands ...now it`s one record and hit the road for the next manufactured band is ready. Derek took Duanes playbook and wrote some new chapters...very cool.

  • why doesen't he have a signature model?

  • Personally I'd love to hear him play a Tele, a Strat or even an ES-335 just to change it up a little. The dude's got monster tone and chops but it would add a little spice to his playing and take him a bit out of his comfort zone.

  • hah..jealous?

  • An amazingly talented and immense tool.

  • mcsteezeburger youve never met the guy obliviously, hes the farthest thing from a tool. now john mayer, hes a tool

  • agreed 100%..derek is one of the nicest guys i have ever met. He is so humble. And John mayer is a whole other story lol. He is good but he is an absolute tool.

  • tool? that man is humble... he's soft spoken..

  • thats not what he means...he is saying that when you play the small club circut, a lot of them screw you over...and he's to the point now where he doesnt have to worry about not getting paid...or getting booked at a country club when your a jazz fusion band...which is what every band goes through.

  • As a performer who plays terrible clubs..I can say that a lot of clubs he played in we're terrible and still are...but they did help him gain a fanbase

  • well, as a rising performer (especially in music) you need to start somewhere. most people aren't always granted "safe passage" up to the top. you have to work real hard to get anywhere

  • They'll be @ House of Blues in SD .. already have my tix ! :)

  • Who i am going to see you in march!

  • what is the last song called?

  • It's "I Wish I Knew (How It Would Feel To Be Free)," which is off of Songlines.

  • im speechless, that just blew my mind :O :) :)

  • and the keyboardist plays the flute to! what an ensamble..

  • what an awesome voice...

  • The seed is there. God has his hands on Derek.

  • "Its a family...we see each other more than our...family"

    Lmao.

  • I wonder if they purposely airbrush his Fender amps out of photos...

  • Ive seen Derek with the Allman Brothers never just he and his band...but seein him live is like sex in the mornin...grrrrrrrrreat!!!

  • i agree i saw him two months ago greatest concert of my live.

  • derek trucks never ceases to amaze me.

  • what is the name of the first song ?

  • "All I do"
