I don't think having a 3rd party wouldn't help much because they too would eventually be taken over by the establishment and instead of having 2 elite-controlled candidates, you'd have 3. Just look at Canada with the NDP, Block, and green party. They started out with a more individual agenda but eventually they adopted the liberal socialist agenda and aren't philosophically all that different.

@jkmcdani Well I am Brit, but i study US Politics quite alot, I would describe politicians like Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel as real modern day Progressives, in the past Presidents like FDR and JFK were progressives.

I think an American Progressive sees the US Constitution as a document that has to be interpreted for the time that it is in, while a Conservative likes to the see the Constitution as much more rigid.

Just to get a discussion going , can you point to an example where it was interpreted by a politician or supreme court judge as a living document (no legal processes to amend it) that helped protect and ensure our inalienable rights, like US Dec. of Independence states the true role of government should be?
