Hey I have a request: KLM flys it's 747-400 into where I currently live, KIAH. Do you think you can do a cockpit landing video next time you fly into here? :)
Landing in bad weather or when it is windy is the number thing I hate. I fly for Dragonair and a few years back when I landed in Taipei the IRS broke halfway due to a ruptured electrical cable, and when I was landing there was a huge troph from Guam that had pushed up the coast. So we were practically blind and we had to go-around 3 times as we couldn't see the runway until we were at around 2000ft. This was the first time me and my co-pilot Kenneth were worried.
@vaskos35cm I can tell you. For example: Schiphol airport has three runways with course 184. The closest number to 184 is 18. So all those three runways are called runway 18. But they must all have independent names, to avoid any confusion. So the left runway 18 is called 18L (18 Left), the middle runway is called 18C (18 Center) and the right runway is called 18R (18 Right). In that airport of google earth the left runway had for example a course of 054 (05) and the right runway 055 (06).
@arjennovic and TRE had rwy 05L/25R & 05R/23L before, but 05R was downgraded as taxiway NC in 2001 (or 2000, I forgot which one is correct), because it was too short and it was only usable for departure when rwy 23L/R were in use because of the cargo ramp at rwy23 side. TPE needs more taxiway, so they decided to downgrade it. It was closed for removing the rwy lighting system and markings. However SQ006 confused 05L&R and crashed into machines on 05R during a take off in typhoon and heavy rain.
Either those wiper blades have gone south, or some genius put some Rain-X or similar crap on the windscreen! I was quite shocked at the ineffectiveness of those wipers. I would be writing to maintenance with some very choice words!
well it seems to me that if u want to be a commercial airline pilot then you must have a good eyesight and HATS OFF TO PILOTS WHO INVOLVED IN THIS ADVENTUREOUS PROFESSION
@vivski. Gliders do suffer from rain, but in big airliners I have never noticed this, but than again you have engines to overcome any drag increase ;-)
@vivski Rain doesn't rob the wings of lift. Actually, in rainy and cold days, the air is more dense. And since lift and drag is proportional to air density, you will get more lift and more drag.
I know you fly to many destinations and it is really great of you to let us have this insight. Do you think you could make a video of a landing in Mexico City next time you fly there? It´s my hometown and I think the approach is really interesting from a pilots point of view.
Sir, greetings from Brazil. Sorry to bother you with such a stupid question, but tell me something; you probably fly all the KLM's 747's. Does each of 'em behaves differently? I mean, I've heard that every aircraft has its "soul", its own particular noises, and so forth. Does that affect the way you fly 'em? Thanks!
@thevocalmaster. Most of them are equal in flight characteristics. When there is a difference, it's only noticeable in noise or draught in the cockpit.
@thevocalmaster Great landing as always sir. Not to get into your business or tell you how to fly...But watching the last part of the video, I must say...You should probably get those wiper blades changed. They are streaking! :P

@kimlarsson. If it is just rain, there is no difference. Only the landing must be more firm to break through the thin water-layer on the runway, otherwise there is a risk of aquaplaning. If it is more windy with a lot of gusts then you have to be more careful.
@SuredT Haha, No kidding. Isn't that something else.. Atleast the aircraft should have them 4 inch mini blades on the landing lights like the Luxery cars do, lol
@ToInfinity1 Tolnfinity1 i think i know why, its mabey because when somthing is headed towards earths atmosphere their is gravity right, and the gravity pulls down, so i guess at 500 ft altitude (if thats right) they will enter or break into the earth atmosphere and the gravity will be pulling them downwards so they have to slow down (if anything is hurdling towards eath at high speeds will burn up) and planes go pretty high places and are pretty fast :)

@ToInfinity1 At 500 ft we don't say "flare", we say "cleared". Which means we are cleared for landing and the other pilot says "check" to confirm that he agrees with the fact that we are cleared to land.

Awesome video yet again :) Could you show the cockpit again like the landing in Bangkok video again? That was cool to see what really happens on the screens when landing.
You don’t know how much your videos have helped me overcome my fear of flying. Last time I took a plane, after watching your vids, I felt safer… it’s good to know that some situations are not really that dangerous and that for you, the pilots, they’re part of the routine…
Amazing video thank you. I wish I would've paid more attention in school when I was young. Piloting looks so exiting. Hope my kids get the same interest in aviation is I have.
Thanks for this video as well as for all the others. I've just a question for you, a bit off-topic, maybe. You, as a pilot, how do you feel face to the dozens of Flight Simulator flight vidos shared here on Youtube? is it strange/weired, or just funny to watch one for you? thanks in advance
what do pilots usually do after they have arrived at some airport? have they time to visit a town, to go to theatre or a pub? After crossing the Atlantic ocean you don't fly immediately back home, do you?
@Omatunto Pilots can only fly a maximum no. of hours(eg 8/day, 70/month, 1000/year though 8/day and 1000/year are the strictly followed rule) and have a limitation of the hours they can stay on the job(from the time you get to the airport to the time after landing you switch off and submit the documents) in a day. The regulation differs from country to country and ideally double the hours of flying time is the rest time. Hope this helps :)
Thank you very much. The 747-400 is my favourite plane and will always be. Too bad ive seen airlines already change them for other planes. Really bad. The 747 is the only big plane left that is still like "Flying" Not those too modern planes that airbus is building.
@roxetterc747 How is the A380 not like "flying"? We have changed out Boeing aircraft for Airbus because they're cheaper to maintain. It's simple economics, honestly.
Great vid! But don't you call "Landing" a bit too early before minimums? I tought that pilots use to call the landing decision at minimums. (In any case, the runway was clearly insight and the decision of course was landing)
why does KLM from to Bangkok then to Taipei? instead of direct flight?

Omatunto 1 year ago
@Omatunto Pilots can only fly a maximum no. of hours(eg 8/day, 70/month, 1000/year though 8/day and 1000/year are the strictly followed rule) and have a limitation of the hours they can stay on the job(from the time you get to the airport to the time after landing you switch off and submit the documents) in a day. The regulation differs from country to country and ideally double the hours of flying time is the rest time. Hope this helps :)

Thank you very much. The 747-400 is my favourite plane and will always be. Too bad ive seen airlines already change them for other planes. Really bad. The 747 is the only big plane left that is still like "Flying" Not those too modern planes that airbus is building.
roxetterc747 1 year ago
@roxetterc747 How is the A380 not like "flying"? We have changed out Boeing aircraft for Airbus because they're cheaper to maintain. It's simple economics, honestly.

Great vid! But don't you call "Landing" a bit too early before minimums? I tought that pilots use to call the landing decision at minimums. (In any case, the runway was clearly insight and the decision of course was landing)
