I built one of these and it runs great but my wife now weighs 396 pounds from eating enough walnuts to keep us supplied in shells to keep the car running! And that's only enough nuts to power the car to go to the store and buy some more nuts! Just kidding, nice video
I read of a couple called Don and Judy Moser who had a methane powered bus they built way back in 1975.....they did demonstrations at unis ect. They lived in Glendale California 525 Davis Ave, to be exact...Other than a story in a Mag I have not found any other info...I must know more about the workings of this bus.....
@KirstenLeahy@KirstenLeahy Methane as little as it seems to be know is in fact the exact same thing we call natural gas, all natural gas is methane we just don't like to use the word methane in industry because it's not very attractive, methane can be made yourself with a methane digester and the resulting gas is the same as natural gas in every way except maybe you won't be able to pressurize it into liquid and therefore it takes up a lot more space maybe that's why it was a bus.
i think he needs to work in a grinder somehow, this way the shells or whatever are ground up first and less clogging, maybe throw a wood chipper on there
Doesn't run on garbage it runs on wood. It's called a downdraft gasifier, and his weird deisng has a lot of flaws. You'd better check the professional victorygasworks channel.
Jim this is wonderful that you found a way to bring back a proven source of alternate fuel. I am amazed you were able to build this with your own funds ( must of been at least several thousands in fabricating). Sorry but didn't Obama give GE millions in tax credits to develop alternate fuels and power technology?
So even though you brought back this form of fuel ( from German WWII). Why don't we see you on the news as a hero bringing a sign of hope for energy independence?
@KamenRiderBlackSun ......No , its gas, they are using a combustion engine and the walnut shells are having the hydrogen being separated, and leaving the carbon behind as ashes. Steam powered not quite the same.
@KamenRiderBlackSun No. It runs on Syngas, which is basically taking the gases and tars from pyrolysis, before they burn like they would do in an open fire. His design flaws a lot, because his tars aren't "cracked" back in the bed of coals. He is just messing with lots of filters and complicated stuff, meaning poor efficiency and enormous maintnance. And also this thing already existed in Europe during WWII, and wasn't a rocket science thing. You could build one with a couple trashcans and ducts
@graywolf82002 rather have mr. fusion because this still produces co2 and waste, also this is not running on garbage just walnut shells which is bio degradable so not worth burning.
great idea, but replacing oil with walnut shells is a bit silly, how do they grow walnits? by chopping down natural forrests and replacing them with farms.
its an amazing idea, and thats is if it did run on garbage, hell, just a bit ofmetal broke it, and there is alot of metal in garbage, but if you worked at a walnut processing factory, this could be useful

So your understanding of "everyday garbage" is walnut shells. So it is safe to assume that real everyday garbage would not fit the bill. But the girl in this video is the unique part, that is a rare find to be treasured, the rest is everyday garbage.

Using this fuel type is hard on engines and will make them wear out fast.

And you cant pick up a second hand engine for under $200 can you?

@nw8000 that would be a waste of time and a pain in the ass. If you want clean and fuel efficient go buy a diesel vdub jetta, they get 45 mpg.
