One major indicator of a great band is that NO ONE else sounds like them. One of a kind. Classic master piece. Blessed to have them and their music. Peace!
Last year I son Jamie passed away on Thanksgiving day after a long battle,to live. I don't know what the guy above is talking about that nobody had used a symphony in rock music this came out after Sgt. Pepper and you can hear the influence at 3:10 not to take anything away from them great band great progressive band but not the first.

The most technically perfect live version of this song I've ever heard from them. A flawless performance by the orchestra and the band. And such a soulful and joyous song.
this is a great song!!! I wish i could have grown up in the 60's. The cars, the music, the way of life.. Same with the 40's and 5'0's. thats when america was america. i am 27 years old and hate vthe way things are today
Just fantastic, the way their music should be played. Sad to go to their concerts and see the members that are gone...Mike and now Ray...Graeme was celebrating his 70th when I saw them in Orlando March 8th Great concert!
I have a magnificent live version of this song from the Jay Leno show recorded on VHS tape, but I don't know how to transfer it with quality to my computer and then to YouTube.
There are several moments here of true beauty, transcendent and romantic. One of those moments when pop-rock music achieves greatness and takes one off into a sort of paradise.
Saw them 10 years ago with the Fargo symphony orchestra. They opened with this, the whole 7-minute version..and encored with "ride my see-saw." INCREDIBLE. Hayward and Lodge were at their extreme best, and both with their patented puffy, very-white English shirts. Man oh man...
@Neno8403 Was this really 50 years after the fact? Hard to believe. I know how you feel. There was a factor back then that hated the orchestral accompaniment. ELO, Moody Blues, Styx, etc. There was something in these opponents who just wanted raw rock, while there were people making music to last a lifetime. You go right from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday and nights in white satin. Seamless. They don't encourage this type of musicianship any more.....

@Parrothead71988 Yes, thats correct, the year was 2000.After seeing the video here,I just had to go out and buy it , you wont find a better one of the Moodys.Cant wait till they come to Europe.
Saw the Moody Blues in 1971...I was 17! That explains it all I guess..They were a signal band at the forefront of a movement towards freedom of thought, spirit, and feeling....such a truly great thing & I think it/s all coming back again...if ever so slowly....The Moody's are positively A+....they lack for nothing!
I will be seeing these guys in March at the Wellmont in Montclair, NJ and am counting down the days! I can hardly wait! If anybody want to meet beforehand to have a few drinks and talk MBs then just let me know.
I grew up listening to the moody blues. My dad's favorite group and mine too. Listen to the lyrics. Such meaning and so beautiful. There will never be a time like this again or a band like the moody blues unfortunately but at least we still have this music to listen to today. Today's music has no meaning behind it, such crap. No band today could touch the moody blues. Not even close! What a phenomenal band of their time and still today!
@Starlitblond I could not agree more! Their music is just amazing and they have not ever lost their touch...and yes they are still sexy as shit arent they? :)) I will tell my dad what you said when i visit his grave next week. He passed away 6 years ago but he is in my heart everyday and he introduced me to so many wonderful bands from the 60's and 70's when i was growing up. I thank him for that. Moody Blues forever!! :))
On the other side of the spectrum: Emerson Lake and Palmer. Less Poetry perhaps, more Jazz and experiment. Love them both. They come together nót being in the Hall of fame. :)
How many dirt bag groups can you name that now have a place in the Rock Hall of Fame ? Now name a rock band that after 40 Plus years of awesome music has not been Inducted ? Yep, The Moody Blues ! That crap hole will have No Cred with me till they are Inducted. Is there a Petition out there somewhere ?

Great song. Too bad they're nowhere this good when they play live anymore. I saw them live two years ago and it was pretty mediocre. Great energy, but they've aged significantly for the worse. It takes a truly great talent to retain their musical ability despite their age--take David Gilmour, for example.
They are more handsome than any other band their age and their music is timeless. Not only do I love this song, so does Visa. Going to see them tonight!
Tahada, the first times I heard this song was when it was used as bumper music for a ski show on one our local TV stations; it wasn't until several years later that I found out it was the Moody Blues--and heard the full version. It was, and still is, a favorite of mine after 39 years.
This version sounds just as good as the first time I heard it.
I'm a product of the 60's and I thank the good Lord everyday for letting me experience real music. I don't know if I'm sorry for today's attempt at it or ashamed !
@kimsanda I'm a product of the 1970's and agree with you. Today's entertainers lack either the raw material (voice), talent (ability to play instruments, write music, or vision (How many bands have the vision and talent to play with a full orchestra?? (Fleetwood Mac pulled that off as did the Moody Blues)
Could you imagine a Britney Spears or a rapper trying this???
@jmlst no, many of today's mainstream artists are more about stupid tricks and gimmicks. they're not about sophistication or pop craftmanship. record companies aren't interested in that either. no one could create something like this or "nights in white satin". indie bands could do that but can't reach audiences that wide and such. the moody blues are underrated and deserve to be in the rock hall. unfortunately, that place is full of snobs so fuck the rock hall.
One major indicator of a great band is that NO ONE else sounds like them. One of a kind. Classic master piece. Blessed to have them and their music. Peace!

...breath deep the gathering gloom..watch lights fade in every room...it is a beautiful Tuesday.
Hayward is absolutely great..and you can see how Lodge enjoys what he's doing...even looks a little "funky"..with his moves and smiles..

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! 50 years after the fact and still just as breathtaking!
Thanks for giving a 25yo---who can't stand the crap being played on the radio today---something to listen to!

@Neno8403 You've got taste!

What a phenomenal band of their time and still today!
juniebird72 2 years ago 4
they are fantastic... still sexy as shit..
tell your dad I love him..
Starlitblond 2 years ago 4
@Starlitblond I could not agree more! Their music is just amazing and they have not ever lost their touch...and yes they are still sexy as shit arent they? :)) I will tell my dad what you said when i visit his grave next week. He passed away 6 years ago but he is in my heart everyday and he introduced me to so many wonderful bands from the 60's and 70's when i was growing up. I thank him for that. Moody Blues forever!! :))

The Moody Blues fused classical music, rock and pure poetry
Nothin like it since.....
AWESOOOOOME !!!!!
ramseymarkf 2 years ago 2
On the other side of the spectrum: Emerson Lake and Palmer. Less Poetry perhaps, more Jazz and experiment. Love them both. They come together nót being in the Hall of fame. :)

@ramseymarkf
Progressive Rock took us in a whole new musical direction... much the same way as early Jazz. and Swing did.
Now it seems we have lost our way..........

It's very good. It's a classic.

I don't know if I'm sorry for today's attempt at it or ashamed !
kimsanda 2 years ago 18
@kimsanda I'm a product of the 1970's and agree with you. Today's entertainers lack either the raw material (voice), talent (ability to play instruments, write music, or vision (How many bands have the vision and talent to play with a full orchestra?? (Fleetwood Mac pulled that off as did the Moody Blues)
Could you imagine a Britney Spears or a rapper trying this???
jmlst 1 year ago
@jmlst no, many of today's mainstream artists are more about stupid tricks and gimmicks. they're not about sophistication or pop craftmanship. record companies aren't interested in that either. no one could create something like this or "nights in white satin". indie bands could do that but can't reach audiences that wide and such. the moody blues are underrated and deserve to be in the rock hall. unfortunately, that place is full of snobs so fuck the rock hall.
