  • it looks bad in what ever livery it carrries i know why the cfps preserved it but it was never a proper 40 40135 draggged off the doncaster scrapline is more like it 97405 rip

  • It is in a livery what it might have been in had it been in service longer

  • Great Video, 5 stars!

  • As long as they paint it back to BR blue one day, we should all be happy to let 'em mess about like this if they want. It was in green for a bit, then rail blue, now this. Maybe Railfreight next? Then EWS?

Do people still actually say things like "My Lordz!" BTW? And when jumping off a train hauled by something rateable while still moving, did anyone else shout "Leaping Lord!", or was this a purely local thing?

  • Not the 1st time large logo has been done? 40445?

  • I LOVE THAT HORN! :D my countrys masterpiece :)

  • *fail's!*

  • Agree with all those who dislike the large-logo repaint. It is neither aesthetically pleasing nor historically correct. Surely preservation (actually the very definition of the word) is all about such things? It's like putting a great painting in the wrong frame - which is just what Porterbrook did to 9016 Gordon Highlander, and remember how absurd that looked.

  • Who gives a monkeys?! They did so well to preserve the thing at all, and on the main line as well. It's their's, they can paint it how they like. So there.

  • I think it looks neat. And that's all that counts in my book. And how it sounds, obviously. If they re-engined it with an EMD 710, I mightn't be happy. I think it'd look neat in LMS maroon.

  • I don't get all the fuss here about the paint job.I am just pleased to see a piece of British engineering at its best still doing what it was designed and built to do all those years ago and my congratulations and thanks to anyone and everyone involved in keeping it that way.

  • she is still the same 40145. she is more of a monster than eva before

  • people moaning as usual. Personally I think she looks great, I think the repaint was a bit of (what if? ... had they stayed longer they would have looked like this). She still sounds great and still runs great. I personally hated her in green but each to their own.... the true fact is that she is on the main line thanks to the hard work of a few. Don't throw ya toys out of the pram over this.

  • 40145 looks really smart.I like it.

  • I'm not overly keen on the repaint; however it's nothing to do with the fact that it's not authentic - I just don't think the livery sits well on a loco of its size and shape. That said, it still sounds hellfire and I think all the people bemoaning it should remember that without the hard work of the CFPS, the only way you'd get to see a 40 on the mainline would be to watch an old video clip!

  • I appreciate it's had the necessary work to be mainline passed which could never be authentic which is great . I know a lot of work was done on it for it's repaint . But sorry guys that looks silly , it might work on a Duff , Tractor or Vac but it's the wrong size and shape . Get some blue paint on the Ice cream Van , maybe keep the large logo and numbers . A mate wondered if the CFPS had been on the magic mushrooms , the bro thought it looked awful .

  • How long before we have d1015 in intercity? Or maybe go mad and do 40145 in Ed Wants Shagging red and gold?

  • Oh dear, What a travesty to paint it in this livery. the sooner it`s back in proper blue the better. Quite a few of my basher mates wont even bother to go out and see it as a result of this livery. Looked great on 56057 even though it never carried it, many other 56s did, but no bucket ever appeared in large log. Its got to go.

  • Oh, get over it.

  • Go on then every one who is complaining about the livery I dare you all to say "It shouldnt be in large logo as they never ran on the main line like that".

  • Errr...I thought it was fairly clear that that's how some people feel from their comments anyway? But ok, "It shouldn't be in Large Logo as they never ran on the main line like that". Happy?

  • Do'h and I would have thought it was even clearer that obviously 1 40 has run on the main line like that as were are comenting on a video of it doing just that.

  • They never had headlights, NRN radio, yellow warning flashes, orange lines, TPWS, OTMR etc - would you like those removing too?

Personally I think 145 currently looks great and the naming reinforces it's role as roving ambassador for the ELR which has been it's home for over half it's life.

  • Point taken DP, but all the features you mention are visually fairly unobtrusive (wholly internal in some cases) and allow it to work on the mainline - a worthwhile compromise imo. Hardly the same as a completely unprototypical livery and nameplates now are they?

  • I have no problem with any of these but if you are adamant that 145 must carry authentic BR blue livery you must accept the loco would have to come off the mainline. As I have stated many times I think the loco looks great and am proud that it carries the name of it's home railway. My personal preference is for BR Green next time round.

  • "It shouldnt be in large logo as they never ran on the main line like that". HAHAHAHA

  • Great thrash as always, but definitely one to play with the screen turned off. And no, there's no need to "micro manage every decision", just the ones which involve a whole new unauthentic paint job and silly plates - hardly trifling concerns are they? But then of course this controversy is precisely why there WASN'T a vote... So, what next - a silencer? To see what a 'thrashless' 40 would have been like? Oh, and do people really believe the old line about "any publicity being good publicity"?

  • well I think it looks awesome, wasn't sure at first but seen it at weaver Jn on sunday morning and it looked exellent. Funny tho how easilly people are upset... railfreght grey next I recon, see how many of the moaners that brings out of the wood work lol.

  • After flailing at this on the Heywood branch it think its rather beast. The driver did open it up a little as well :P

Its good to see the 145 beast is still thrashing as it does in the newest hellfire livery. Anybody know qabout its D345 returning livery rumours...

  • Pete, if you went on holiday, and the missus came home with a tan, would you disown her? She'd be the same person on the inside, but a non-authentic colour on the exterior.

  • Unless I'm missing something Sponsored by Visions International means the CFPS did not "waste" (your word not mine) any cash for the paint job. It is much more likely that the loco will be featured in the railway press, front page of wnxx etc etc in this livery than "just 40145 out and about again" As for not consulting the membership, how crazy would it be to micro manage every decision through a vote/referendum? That's what we elect the committe for (and I am not on it by the way!)

  • wat a noise..wiked.well posted dude..

  • Have you ever contributed to preservation?... Erm yes thanks! My time and money, you're missing the point - 145 is a top loco and I've spent quite a bit riding on it, the point is it looks totally stupid in the colour scheme and nothing short of a tacky publicity stunt, if that's what floats your boat great - however it does nothing for me and I think you will find I'm nowhere near in the minority either! ask the members.. (oh sorry they didn't did they)Ahem. Next

  • A great video and a great engine. Large logo looks impressive although not in the context of history. Still, a terrific shot by the visions man. Keep them coming, now. John Wantling, Rochdale

  • Yay, online one day and foaming paintfroth already! Makes it worth the repaint in itself. Total respect to CFPS crew - 145 will always be a top loco.

  • Personally, I think it's a good idea to see 40145 in a different prospective. Saw her at work today, still doing it's job. Brilliant stuff!

  • Waste of who's money Pete? Have you ever contributed to preservation? At the end of the day, the caption at the beginning is true - 'New livery, same thrash'. So the blue:yellow ratio is different, and the BR logo and numbers larger now? Get over it.

  • same hellfire thrash, f##king rubbish livery, what a waste of money! should have left it BR blue. Hellfire loco - stupid idea. Nameplates - not even done in the correct style, tacky?? Very.
