thanks groovysongs for your comment that they sometimes called themselves Murtceps, I wondered if I'd imagined that. I heard it was in order to play at smaller venues that couldnt afford to book Spectrum. having a bit of a trawl through my past, thanks for this one
Saw them last night at the Semaphore Workers Club - they were great as usual. I saw them once in the seventies in their Ariel incarnation and I think they are even better now.
Great song Tiger, Francine and I were listening to this classic on the weekend in the car and it made me think of your upload that's had 23,000 views, a great Aussie classic that's timeless and resonates with all generations! Cheers Gerry
After Spectrum, Rudd & Putt went on to form Ariel, A Strange Fantastic Dream & Rock & Roll Scars, are just truly incredible albums, completely different in every way. Scars featured some of the finest & inventive guitar solos ive ever heard, played by Harvey James, who went on to join Sherbet ( it is he who played that great solo on Howzat). Both these albums are available on remastered CD.Once described by the great John Peel as " the best thing out of Australia since Ronald Biggs!!!
@Becs1683 WHY - because YT was designed from the outset as a 'public domain' forum to allow everyone the right of free speech & opinion. If people merely want to 'just listen to the song', then there are ample, multiple sources & vehicles for people to access / buy / steal any music they want (& stealing music off the internet is rife, sadly, losing millions of dollars in residuals & royalties to the creators of the particular song.) THIS SONG - one of the best Aussie Rock / Blues numbers EVER
@ozcobblepot218 dude you are so full of shit its bill putt btw and hes my guitar teacher he doesnt right for jessica maulboy neither does mike rudd sorry but your wrong
@devilskin345 ; THERE'S NO NEED TO BE RUDE!! If you'de read my comment carefully, I said "I THINK.." I didn't say "THEY ARE" I'm also not sure bout Delta either. Only goin by what others tell me dude, okay? Obviously you know better since he's your teacher, so perhaps you can tell me if he(they) do write for Delta? And I again was TOLD by someone who claims to know them both, Mike and Bill, that they write (wrote) for Kylie and Danni. Is that true also or is it bullshit?
I have been learning the harp for a few months now, and had been looking for this song because the intro is burned into my brain as one of the musts to learn. Thank you very much for posting!
the singer is Mike Rudd//tyhe essential spwectrum but while i always liked this song, murceps was more alluring...where is this music..not a cover band mess
I cant find this on itunes...what sthe deal with it only being on there under the Tribute to Lobby Lloyd etc CD? Anybody know??? I was born in 75 but parents still cranked it for years. Thanks for posting
Thank you. Haven't heard this for years and years. This was an anthem for myself and a lot of other confused, angry and lost young men at the University of Sydney (and elsewhere I suspect) in the early 70s.

Freaking brilliant - love the repetitive lyrics you can relate to - someday I'll have money but money isn't easy come by...

Mike Rudd and Bill Pudd write songs for Kylie Minogue and for Delta, and I think they're even now writing for Jessica Mauboy.
