Val Kilmer fires his shotgun into the air to scare the horse, apparently the horse is NOT scared by all the other gunfire, only shotguns. This probably came about when the scene required him to shoot the horse, but somebody decided that would appear inhumane of his character, so he or they decided that he would shoot in the air. After being edited together, it appears pretty lame that the horse wouldn't have already been startled.
Ike wasn't armed. Leaving the scene was not cowardly but wise on his part.. It is believed that neither faction wanted this to end up like that. The Earps just wamted to run the cowboys out of town. Holliday was the problem. He should not have been allowed to participate.
If this had happened like this today the cops would have all lost their jobs and been humiliated. Shows the sad state the world is in. Can't just simply take out the trash anymore lol
Police shouldn't be allowed to go around picking fights, that should stay in the old west. The Earps didn't like the Clantons and that's why they fought. It wasn't about "taking out the trash", Wyatt was a criminal, and a drunk himself. And Holiday was probably more of a criminal than any of the cowboys in Tombstone.
@Starkiller830 There is no documentation either written records nor oral tradition that indicates Wyatt Earp was ever a man that overindulged in spirits. If you have some reference to the allegation please furnish it.
Ike ran like a coward and was not involved and Doc and morgan did hit more targets than anybody else. Wyatt hit nobody. Virgil mortally wounded Billy Clanton then everyone took pot shots at him when he was in a sitting position trying to reload his gun he was shot 17 times. Morg, virg and Doc were all wounded Wyatt went without a scratch.
@highjinxwillie62 Actually Billy Clanton was struck 3 times. one shot to the right waist area. one to the wrist. and one shot to the left breast area. This information is documented in the official coroners inquest on Billy Clantons body, Oct 26 1881
no i really do think they show doc's second shot twice...take a look at the guy he is supposedly shooting the third time...he is wearing the same clothes as the guy he shot with his second shot...im pretty sure that they just showed his second shot twice, even though it was shown from the hip
Billy Clanton may have been a punk, but he was a tough punk.

Great, and really Peckinpah-style. I've seen this movie a long ago. I almost forgot how great it was.

Actually, he does fire 3 shots:
1. In The Air: (the horse rears exposing tom mclaury)
2. Into Tom's right side. (the shotgun is fired from the shoulder)
3. Another blast fired from the hip at tom before Doc discards the shotgun.
He also fired about 20 shots from each of his pistols into Billy, at Ike and into Frank.

There are errors it's true, but a great film nonetheless.

In fact Doc only fires twice , but the second shot is shown twice
monte1880 4 years ago
Yeah doc only fires it twice, it just shows the second shot twice because that guy is standing up again when you see the "third" shot
