We need to get Gov. out of our lives. Any Politician that voted for TARP screwed the middle class and benefited big Bankers. When Gov. tries to play the role of God and decide who wins and who loses we ought to get rid of them. Senators like Orrin Hatch have since said they wish they didn't vote for TARP (now he wants to appear as if he was swindled but really he was scratched by lobbyists). We need to get real champions of the free market into Congress or we'll become a fascist Nation
The Government sucks, Senator Hatch sucks- they're all two faced, we need someone we can trust, a "radical" like Ron Paul- they're the only consistent ones- the only ones you can trust not to go behind your back. It's not the job of the Government to influence the economy- I believe if they do we have a right to steal from them- they stole from us
Yeah, I remember something similar before. Doesn't mean you actually saw it. I have the same problem, too. In early '87 Some mates and I came up with an original idea and with some other friends and shot a short concept on video. Been trying for years to get the guys together to finish the story, maybe a graphic novel, but I discovered last month that someone else has been successful with the same concept, but different approach. I'm heartbroken, but I know I was oiginal.
i think that you guys should at least acknowledge that this joke was made fourteen years ago by a webcomic, seen here nukees . com / d / 19970203 . html
@datawraith3080 - This cartoon was brought to my attention for the first time by datawraith3080 4 months ago. (We posted his comment and link 4 months ago.) People organically come up with similar ideas all the time. I came up with the concept of The Job in 2001. I was sitting at a stoplight on Sunset Blvd, outside Home Depot. I was working a terrible job and saw the men working so hard to TRY and get a job. I thought to myself, "What if I everyone had to do that every day?" The Job.
@datawraith3080 - Check out this New Yorker Cartoon that came out October of 2011. (Years after both Nukees & The Job.) - newyorker . com/ humor/ issuecartoons / 2011 /10 / 24 / cartoons _ 20111017 # slide = 5
@ScreamingFrog fair enough then, i wasn't trying to raise hell after all, but i do like reading darren bluel, and credit where credit is due he did beat you guys to the punch! anyway i am a subscriber, and I look forward to more awesome vids!
it is funny, not too far from current reality, therefore, bit sad too. However, I would hope this to happen to those wall street-ers and financial criminals who actually brought this time upon us.
Where is this place? Do lot of people come by looking for workers? I just finished school and need a job. I was thinking if I offer my services really cheap, I may be able to get picked up.
This is an accurate prediction of Americas future. We allow illegal immigrants into our country, and why? Not to give them hope, not to give them a dream to follow, but to take advantage of them. Companies are saying to themselves "What are these spics going to do? Gain intelligence, rise up and throw us out of power? Never!" More immigrants are taking advantages of opportunities that we've taken forgranted. And you know what I think? "In the land of oppertunity, may the best man win!"
Unfortunately, unemployment is also high in Mexico. It's why they're all sneaking north of the border. In reality, this movie would be more along the lines of Americans begging Australians for a jobs, and then hopping into the back of a Holden Ute.
omg..my computer crashed and I lost this! Couldn't remember the name but luckily I found it again :o)
Having grown up in So. Calif, and AZ I would always see white contractors picking up day laborers and that video just made me scream and laugh, what a twist! Not to mention a totally clever idea to film.
From an old white lady who grew up with lots of Mexican friends..thanks so much for this, it doesn't matter how many times I watch it it still makes me laugh, I love it!.
@szunaj415 Yeah, wake up, America! Apply the same laws to the corporate crooks who have screwed us all as you do to the blue-collar crooks who hold up the occasional bank. If it is illegal for people to rob banks, it needs to be illegal for banks to rob people. The fact that Goldman Sachs execs and others like them have never been prosecuted for their crimes and are still raking in billions proves that Big Biz owns our government -- all 3 branches, executive, legislative, and judicial.
I'm a big fan of this piece...not only is a great concept, but as a film maker, it is shot nicely. I'm really curious what camera this was shot on? How long did it take you to shoot and if you feel comfortable answering this, what was the total budget? once again, great job!
@CommCraftsmenGroup - Thank you so much for your kind words. I am glad that you enjoy it so much. It was shot on the HVX 100 with Redrock lenses. (We also had an amazing DP.) We shot for 1 day. This was the first film shot by Screaming Frog Productions. Like all of our other films, it was paid for by my wife and myself...with a great deal of support. Everyone worked for deferred pay and we found a producer who got us a great deal on the equipment. We are lucky to share the dream.
@ScreamingFrog Thank you for positing. This video is really inspiring. It looks like big budget movie quality. I have been looking for a camera to use to film rugby matches so I'm going to look into that lens.
@Msugarpuss, there is no soviet russia,,,russia is no longer a "soviet" .....nor is there a USSR anymore.....wake up Rip Van Winkle! BTW, there's an acute unemployment problem in Russia, too!
Imagine a world full of business owners. One wo/man (+family) and no one else working for them.... U get the point. Very unlikely scenario.
Business models are usually unfair. The adage "make other people work for your money." Maybe thats what you have in mind, and its not ur fault. Thats just how things work in the real world. Business models are unfair and tilting it in the favour of the employer. Hence the incentive to have your own business and hold on to it.
That was too funny..... I've picked up some good Hispanic fellows to help me load and unload my home with the Uhaul a couple of times, paid them a decent wage, and fed them pizza and soda. Was cheaper than using a service, couldn't afford that. So, I'm thankful.
America and Europe is competing with totalitarian capitalism (China, Russia is on comeback, and look at Saudis/Dubai. Everything is owned by one family for heavens). All these 'bailout' measures are just to cope with that reality. Europe will implode under its consumer-protecting-oriented system. So in order to beef the cap-lib governments they are financing the big-corporations with tax-payers money just to compete. As the saying goes, "if you cant beat the beast than become the beast itself."
@failef yeah, just don't mention the NWO or I'll puke on my keyboard, I'm getting sick of reading comments about that, bailout measures, I don't think they know what else to do, I wish there were more rules about what corporations can and can't do with the bailout money.
Well, the problem began once upon a time when u vote for Bush..yes...bad goverment does that..then points the finger to whomever..and all the idiots that voted..would rather think it is the Mexicans...nope..it couldn't be bad goverment..or bad choices of a bad President...but wherever works you all.
7userid, i'm not a bush fan, but these problems started way before bush, you could easily place blame on clinton for nafta, nixon for defacing us monetary policy ect ect ect..... americas been living on borrowed money for years..
The Job has screened in Italy a number of times and there might be an Italian Subtitled version out there, but we don't have one. I will let you know if we get one.
government blames all of there problems on there not being enough jobs but that isnt it. there aren't many jobs because of all the regulation and steps you have to go through to start making them. hong kong went from a tiny piece of crap village to one of the most prominant cities if not the most successful in no time because the government said, "go ahead and start your business and we will see what happens." mexico should look into that. as should india. they have the people and the resources.
Just original!!! Ja,ja,ja,ja,ja! This is how those people feel trying to get some food for their families. Desesperation and the reality with the American people is not too far since at this very moment there families that have nothing to eat, or any money to pay their bills.
@ScreamingFrog funny, there's a corner store where I live, at one point there were around 200 latinos near it, plus up & down the road, looking for work. Then this protestor came along and stood right next to them with a sign that said deport illegals, then he brough friends with video cameras taking pictures of everything and everybody as a scare tactic. It was a real circus.
With Neo-communism ravaging most of Central America and a great part of South America, as well as a weak left-wing president at the helm of the U.S., this is not just a joke. It's a potential reality. It's already happening in southern countries. Unemployment is at an incredible all time high. Even for highly trained professionals.
That doesn't even make sense. You know, to have a conversation you have to make an attempt to "make sense" to your audience. Conversing as if you were in front of a mirror just doesn't cut it.
The man has been on the job for 65 days. How do you think McCain/Palin would've done thus far? The DOW would be around 6500 and the top 1% would've got another tax cut. Chill out and let him try something at least instead of hoping he fails.
He's a socialist Alinskite who's in the process of destroying America's infrastructure. I HOPE HE FAILS. 15% unumployment, trillions of dollars in debt and deficit, kowtowing to foreign despots, eviscerating our national security, government takeover of banks, private industry and healthcare. How's that "change" working out for ya?
so you prefer invading countries that have nothing to do with terrorism instead of going after the actual terrorists. You repubs have no credability at this point, sometimes I think the louder you yell Obama sucks, the more you hope it will take the attention off of what Bush did. At least the bailout doesn't kill people, and if you remeber, bush bailed the banks out when he was in office, and nobody had a problem with that. Would you prefer foreign companies swoop ion and buy our banks?
from the title I thought it was going to be some bullshit about minorities or women's rights or some other waste of time but it was not bad. Kind of long for a quick punchline but worth it none the less.

Can't believe people think this is funny, it's wishful thinking

That doesn't even make sense. You know, to have a conversation you have to make an attempt to "make sense" to your audience. Conversing as if you were in front of a mirror just doesn't cut it.

This is what you call Hope for Change in Obama's America....

The man has been on the job for 65 days. How do you think McCain/Palin would've done thus far? The DOW would be around 6500 and the top 1% would've got another tax cut. Chill out and let him try something at least instead of hoping he fails.

@crashfamily

@crashfamily And what do you think of Obama today? LOL

from the title I thought it was going to be some bullshit about minorities or women's rights or some other waste of time but it was not bad. Kind of long for a quick punchline but worth it none the less.
