I bought the album literally half a dozen times! Kept lending it to folks and never getting it back!lol Heedphones on in remote Holland, 1987, singing Hipsway as loud as poss between fields - only to see an old guy staring at me like a wiz an eejit, as he worked in the field! I carried on!lol
what a tune takes me back to Franklyns lounge Bellshill Scotland The DJ in that place was well fit great voice and played some of the best music of my youthful years he pioneered a lot of great tunes before any other Djs ... Hence the name Seansangels ..I know his name was Sean ( believe we got called this as we used to congragate by his DJ booth) anyone now if hes still a DJ wink wink ! Gooooood Times never forgotten !
I got the album on vinyl 1986, the week it came out, absolutely fabulous track on a brilliant album!! Favourite line has to be "7:00 in the morning, tinder all my money on the great western road" and as ivevu states one of the most under-rated bands of the eighties. The 1980's are gone but the great music is still with us. Thank God
Damn... fucking awesome... I've been looking for this album for years!! Back in the late 80s, I and some friends had just left Milwaukee's Summerfest music festival & these guys were playing Papagallo's Club down the street... just blew us away!!
Thanks for posting this... still searching for album/cd...?
Fuckin' Awesome, i remember trying to turn a few cunts onto it back in 86 but they where more interested in the happy mondays and the charlatans and shit like that
Skin and Pim Jones, bassist Andy Carr went on to form the band Witness. Brilliant debut album, House Called Love. Saw them live in Dundee in a pub around the corner from Fatty Sams in the early 90's.
The bass player had played with ShakeSpeares Sister and others.
I saw Witness in Nairn around the same time. They were good and couldn't fault their music and performance but they got pissed off with people shouting up Hipsaway song requests and eventualy Skin snarled 'we don't do any Hipsway songs' That's fair enough but they did use the Hipsway name on the posters to draw people in (Witness featuring Pim & Skin formerly of Hipsway) I think the poster said. They should take a leaf out of Sylvian's book with the Rain Tree project
ONE OF THE BEST EVER, MY SON PLAYS IN A BAND AND THE LEAD SINGER LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE SKIN (GRAHAME SKINNER ) AND I AM TRYING TO GET THEM TO RECORD THIS ANTHEM , HOPEFULLY THEY WILL LISTEN TO THE ( MUSIC MAN).!
Brilliant track although my favourite is " Long White Car". I've got the original album on a pre-recorded cassette. Just as well I've still got a tape deck!
Excellent band, anyone who doesn't already know stuff by the 'Blue Nile' and 'Love and Money' should check out their music from around the same time too.
They were a great band! I rember so many great gigs. Skin is in Glasgow now. Pim is in London, still studying music (and getting even better). His dad was in another great Scottsih group, Human Beast and his brother Nick is in the Jim Jones Revue, getting a lot of press right now.
Am having a huge retro trip tonight, Hipsway, Love and Money and The Silencers were such important bands to me when younger....angry at myself for forgetting just how great Hipsway were
I was at the gig at the barrolwlands with Hue & Cry as support to Love & Money.
Got most of Love & Money's albums - they're big chance of making bombed when James Grant (lead singer) was on Saturday Super Store and he made a 'joke' about the late (he'd just past away) Roy Orbison - didnt go down well ...
Love, love, love this tune. Was 15 and living in Glasgow when it came out in '87. Became part of the soundtrack to my misspent youth - "I been thinkin bout setting the world on fire" - hell yeah!!
OMG, I just remembered this and all the old lager adverts !!! Was on a Y.T.S in Cranhill at the time...lol..;) Tinder all my money on the Great Western Road!!! Time flies eh !
By Gawd!!! I thought I`d never hear this again ... until I, drunkenly, stumbled upon it on this YouTube-ie thingie!!! Ferckin Brill!!! Does anyone Know what Skin n the guys are doing?
I loved these when I was young, seriously underated x
