2:10 - 2:20 I really doubt they're changing time signatures. They went into some weird #let or something but I'm sure they didn't "randomly change" the time sig.
@Arkayem Mikael specifically asked Axe for "chaos". I don't remember if that's on the "making of Watershed" documentary or on a separate Akerfeldt interview, but that's exactly what Mike wanted, for it to sound random and jumbled. (btw, I don't think it sounds random enough... :)
On a side note: Axe is pretty good, but dammit, Lopez was absolutely effing brilliant.
That's a Mellotron sound that is very similar to No Quarter. There also seems to be a bit of Leslie effect applied, which was a cabinet with a spinning speaker.
Nah, It was just Moore doing vocals/keys, Matheos doing guitar/bass and of course Gavin Harrison. They did have two guest musicians, Akerfeldt on stockholm and someone else who I forget on the bonus disc (which was not on itunes)
@grayson75 I think this song more than any othr the Porcupine Tree influence comes out. Daymn Gavin is so distinctive in playing, and theres few drumms I cam listen to and say that!
OSI is one of a kind. It's like some tracks sound almost like slipknot but then it like turns into electronic sounding. I really think I'm gonna buy this album.
its sick. whenever gavin is involved, music sounds better.

pft, 2:10 - 2:20 rules! I think people are misunderstanding the point of the song altogether. But that's just me.

@rmf919 Yeah I thought that part was really cool. Too much for some people, maybe?

@MyMytalMajesty I thought the same thing. I want to know why bands throw random odd time parts in their songs like that.
I mean take Axernot's random drum solo in Opeth's song Porcelain Heart for example, EPIC fail.

OSI going from Mike Portnoy to Gavin Harrison was a wash. They are both GREAT drummers and this band stinking rocks!!!!
usmcsdi69 2 years ago 4
yeah I think there's a bit of influence from the drummer, very similar to Porcupine Tree. Without losing OSI's unique style.
Gavin Harrison is friggin a tasty drummer!
