  • hmm were monk robes always that orange?

  • Wait. Shaolin martial arts is not a static art. There are traditional arts which came from ancient times and there's contemporary Shaolin kung fu developed by Shaolin masters of this era. That's why we see Shaolin demo team going places to show their arts to the world.

  • i can do that the only difference is i do choy li fut not wushu my style is harder.

  • yes he does kung Fu, but do these guys ever get chicks? I dont know , but I do know he could work for caltrans with all that orange.

  • i have aids, just like tai ji forms.

  • HE BRINGS THE FOCUS BACK TO HIS MIDDLE AT THE END BY TOUCHING HANDS ABOVE NAVAL LIKE IN TAI CHI.. VERY GOOD

  • i think the shaolin masters would say,,, our old methods are lost,, and these new future kung fu and chi kung masters have created there own forms and styles to counter real attacks..

  • watch 0:42 whats that ?

  • Lol

    Rage mode?

    Barbaric intimidation?

Looks very much like the frog stance which is totally different style in fighting

  • a lot of moves which are not necessary in the fight. Bruce Lee didn't like shaolin gung fu. too many moves which you dont need, you hace to fight simple and direct like jeet kune do.

  • @Yahya2010x thats true, to be simple, and direct is all that should be necessary, in a real fight but when you are not fighting and just practicing, these forms will show you many ways to block and deffend yourself, even how to attack someone and what footwork you should use... even Bruce Lee didn't disrespect the shaolin way. he just thought it was too cluttered.

I myself love shaolin and wudang Gongfu because when your not fighting

you can do forms and have fun while exercising.

  • I hate these arguments...Every martial art has its own skill set and while some are more well rounded then others there is always one that does better in one area then the best

learn what you can, expand your knowledge and teach others

    thats real

  • such a beautiful art.i need to learn it

  • how would they do in mma?????????

  • western boxing is the oldest of all martial arts?? sounds rediculous

  • I agree since chinese martial arts are over 4000 years old.

  • Well chinese boxing is much more different than western, of course you know westerns is just fists, but the reason they call it chinese boxing is because when europeans tried to occupy china, there were formed underground resistance groups who knew martial arts and for a sign they had the fist, so the short minded european was calling them boxers and it stucked

  • I didn't see more than three authentic Tiger style moves in that set. It was all acrobatical showmanship. That is NOT a good show of Tiger Style.

  • I agree. This is not the real tiger style. A good show...

  • I agree, this is not the best example of Tiger style that I have seen. There were a few moves, but overall not true to the tiger style. As a demonstration of athletic skill, it was good.

  • This is just some shaolin show style. No real Tao Lu in it. There is a chinese professor of shaolin wu shu.(no joke) He says he want the real skills back, and is doing efforts for that. Lots of others who lived in shaolin confirm the real fighting styles mostly are gone. It has become a center for martial ballet, not for killing styles. Some styles have some nice tricks but the real deal is verryyy hard to find! Wich is probably good is'nt it?

  • do you know where in china i can go to train in real deadly kung fu 10-14 hours a day in rain, snow or smeltering heat? that is the kind of training i want and am prepared to do.

  • well in china there's lots of people who practise deadly kung fu daily. And if you really want to learn it, with right attitude and.... Just go there and find one who wants to teach you. Its your life my friend. Your judgement of what fits you, or your journey to what fits you! and what you want to learn from who. Good luck!!

  • thanks, but you know- i think its going to be a waste of my time, going to some country i am not from. looking for some mysterious old man who will train me like a dog- im going to the navy seals, they are much more reliable, offer the same intense training and they pay me for it!

  • Actually they're Buddhist so killing is kind of against what they represent. In Buddhism we are taught that all Life is Precious and can never be replaced. There is more to Martial arts than just fighting, if you feel it is, then take boxing or MMA they are more focused on Self Defense and real fighting than they are exploring the spiritual Side of martial arts.

  • yea i agree

    he's a performance monk

the forms they do are modifications of older forms to appeal to the public. it's closer to the competitional wushu.

  • I kick that shaolin monks his ass :P

  • Lol. :36 - :37 = Kamehameha

  • hahahaha yeah

  • this guy moves with speed and grace, he has good plyometric power and discipline. regardless of opinions about whether practicing this helps combat, they guy is fit and skilled.

  • stupid fuck

  • What's funny to me is the hubris it takes for 20-something MMA zealots to believe that through televised cage-fighting, they've discovered some sort of secret that Chinese martial arts people never thought of over 5,000 years of practice.

How does that work? "Durrrr I'd just pummel 'im onna ear, innit?"

  • i love kung fu anad i think thats moves is so hard but i think that i can do it

  • this kung fu is from chinese people

  • To make it clear, Wushu is from Shaolin just like how every other style of Kung Fu branched out from Shaolin. Hence real Shaolin Kung Fu is still being taught at Shaolin.

  • not every style... there is hundreds of family styles unrelated to Shaolin. And alot of styles went TO shaolin, you know, passers by. Those styles would of existed and flourished regardless of shaolin. If a thai boxer stayed at a homeless shelter, what would that make muay thai? That was basically shaolin for many people. According to png chye kim who teaches lohan style the shaolin was like a meeting place. There was more than one also I think. Fukien and Honan shaolin. Alot of folklore though.

  • Man i could love to learn {kung fu}

  • lol, are u sure this is tiger form? 'cause he definately derived it from the national form of nanquan. i could predict at least 90% of wat he was gonna do nxt by just lookin at his moves

  • well, nanquan is a southern style, and the Hung Gar school too, so it is possible to see many common movements between them.

  • sorry but this looks pathetic,i know nothing of kung fu,but i can tell he could have used alot more metion and cared more about what he was doing

  • You know nothing of kung fu yet you can discern that this is pathetic? GOOD JOB! idiot.

  • That's amazing. And meaning no disrespect, but was that a hadoken at 36 seconds?

  • Pretty much. You have to keep in mind many tv shows and video games take the actual movements from martial arts. That technique has many varied applications, its most basic of course is a double tiger strike. Its also used as a catching technique, works great against side kicks. Other variations usually rely on pre & post movements.

  • thats awesome....*mouth gapes open in awe*

  • LOL. The old shaolin masters would be ashamed of the stuff that passes for ":shaolin" and especially when they are wearing the shaolin garb. This is wushu, modern government..stuff. He lacks all fundamental skills, in particular the using of the waist for power, and more fluid movement, less wasteful movement.

  • oh you "know it all"'s are funny... lets see your official shaolin kung fu then. all talk, all jealous. its OK. (fyi, your judging from one routine this guys' skill.. oh yeah your a master right, and you know all the "fundamentals"... sillyness)

  • no real shaolin kung fu is thought in shaolin anymore, watch the new additions in shaolin and you'll only see wushu, the master's like deyang are either gone abroad or do not teach any longer, the fundamentals are dependant on how long you stay and pay... this guy was probably from wushu guan...

  • @cloud0123 its easy to talk about others but hard to do what they do

and easy to place stupid comments and hard to show us what you have especially when you have nothing... all you guys on utube sit home n place smartass comments and thats all your good at

  • @tigerstrenght Nah. Not criticizing him, he's great! Amazing strength, flexibility, and form. But he's got no raw power or foundation behind his movement. its Wushu, straight up. There's nothing wrong with that. But its not Shaolin Tiger, its essentially the nice version to look at

  • @cloud0123 Let's see you do ANYTHING close to that.

  • U cant help but admire his speed and agility, i think i pulled a hamstring just watchin'!!

  • that was dumb

  • Was that a Hokkai-join I saw at the end? o_0

  • DAYUM, BITCHES! Who the FUCK said you all were the expert on martial arts!? Land yourself in a documentary, movie, or something that shows that your skill paid off, and then you can brag.

  • I dont understand why people automatically assume martial artists doing Kata's(forms) will fight as such. I have done wushu kungfu and karate and can tell you kumite(fighting) is done differently then your kata(forms). Kata's are used for practice and basic movements and mixing them togther. They are a discipline form that shows how skillful you are in your martial art. I can easily judge u beating the crap out of someone but it doesnt prove you are the most skilled at the martial art.

  • thank you. exactly.

  • Even that training, which isn't meant for fighting, would prepare people better than someone who doesn't practice. Keep in mind their reaction time and knowledge of flow and balance instantly makes them a better combatant than you. Anyone here who hasn't taken a class in martial arts would most likely get beat.

And about using movements in a fight. All movements are set on basics, you can decontruct those moves, and use them individually.

  • ummm ok, i took this video, this is A WUSHU student, not a Shaolin Priest (I have no idea where you got that from). I have been to China (and the shaolin temple) and yes I know the difference between traditional kung fu and wushu. this is wushu. i wouldnt say these guys cant fight though, because they actually practice fighting on a daily basis, and they are much better than your average person. you people dont make any sense.

  • @teylorleigh Let's use the correct terminology then so that people don't misunderstand, Contemporary Wushu is what is see here. Keep in mind Wushu means Martial Technique. Wu Yi is the traditional , Wu Yi means Martial Art.

  • He might be a good kickboxer I didn't deny it but can one of u tell me how u can use these movements in a fight? Have u ever been to China? Have u ever seen true chinese kung fu? Keep being ripped off by these fake Shaolin priests.

  • are you stupid, shaolin priests? are you that dumb? hes either a shaolin monk or a wushu fighter, and they are pretty effective when you use on an opponent (of course you're going some parts of the from , not all) dumbass, use your brain, if you have one

  • MMA people have been hit on the head too many times.

What's the plan when the guy's fingers are in your eyes? You ever seen the effect of eye pokes? I have. You get someone's fingers in your eyes, you're done. Period. If you think otherwise you're stupid.

  • u wouldnt get close

enuff theyd just take u down and u'd be too focused on gettin us off u, or we'd beat u about the head for the entire time

  • Wouldn't get close enough, yet you are supposedly going in for a takedown? Don't underestimate these people. It's also interesting how many times MMA zealots are unable to spell or use proper grammar.

  • ahh spelling mistakes, the last recourse of idiots eveywhere, u know youve won when people bring it up.

you woldnt get close enough in the sense thatwe wouldnt be stood up face to face to deliver an eye poke acurately and the fact that mma has proved time again that traditional methods are outdated and useless

    enjoy delusion

  • Enjoy your eye pokes. Show me a fight between two fighters of equal weight class and remotely comparable time-in-grade.

You know you've won when people bring up spelling mistakes? You must win a lot then. Your logic is unsound too.

  • haha equal weight, you've been brainwashed by whiteboy "martial arts"...

  • Is that why I've had my ass handed to me repeatedly by 5 foot tall filipinos and chinese? I'm 6'5 280. You don't know anything about me. One of my instructors is Peter Kwong, you can find him on here showing some Harimau. Take a look at that and tell me again what a whiteboy "martial art" silat is.

  • yeah yeah whatever, have you ever fought with a shaolin monk? what hes doing in this video is just a form ( do you know what a form is? )

and not sparring... a form is not ment to be realistic... And another thing is that every martial art comes from shaolin kung fu so if youre a MMA guy, all your moves comes from what hes doing in this video

  • OK, so you're 19, which means I was in the dojo before the better part of you was even a damp spot on your mama's sheets. Don't tell your grandpa how to crack heads.

  • Actually no that not true, MMA is Western Boxing, Muay Thai and BJJ there is no Shaolin in there. Thai boxer invented there own art without any monk visiting them and western boxing is the oldest of all martial arts, and BJJ is an amazing art with great ground work. But it has some trace elements of Qi-Na in it, Qi-Na is not from shaolin its from China but its been around alot longer than shaolin.

  • BJJ comes from japanese jujutsu, japanese jujutsu comes from karate and judo, karate and judo comes from shaolin!

  • Actually Jujitsu comes from Chi-Na not Karate, Karate comes from Lohan. BTW not all arts come from Shaolin Temple, in fact shaolin has no art of its own. Lohan Came from India, Praying Mantis came from Lohan and several other styles. Five Animals were derived from Lohan. So on and so on. Shaolin Temple is a Center where Masters from many different styles can come and share their knowledge its not a place where Kung Fu was created.

  • lohan (18 monk hand) started as breathing exercises 2nd the praying mantis was created by a monk from the shaolin temple 3rd you right kung fu was not created in the shaolin temple but the temple is not for a master gathering two just display kung fu its a modestry where religious monks live and practice theyre religion

  • Western boxing and BJJ and now even Muay Thai arent martial arts, well i wouldnt consider them martial arts.

  • Not the ring sports at least. They all come down to the most basic moves you learn in the first two days of training pretty much. They've been so watered down that it's ridiculous.

  • yeah exactly, like i train in Wing Chun and now our academy has turned into a muay thai and mma gym. All of the things practised in muay thai they learnt in one lesson and all they do is train it. All muay thai is now is basically boxing combos with a few kicks or knees added in. To me thats not an art.

  • I totally agree :p

  • Martial arts are like the Heat/Air Conditioning thingy in the car: There is always a little "martial" or a little "art". Of course categories like self defense or dance are either purely martial or purely art.

  • Stop generalizing, just because your academy practices crap Muay Thai does NOT mean all schools do...

  • No Muay Thai is good. Maybe chaiya or boran but not muay thai. The only thing Muay Thai teaches a student is how to be cocky and how to have the biggest ego. Muay Thai is a fighting style not a Martial Art.

  • You've never have done Muay Thai have you... Muay Thai is a martial art what are you talking about?

  • I do Thai, as well as Wing Chun, Wushu and MMA

  • If you do Muay Thai then why are you pawning it off as something that just gives people big egos and makes them cocky?

  • Because it is not my main style. A lot of people that come into the academy I train in are very cocky and arrogant. Thai is good because it is easy to get good at fast and has a lot of power but if you did Thai and someone ran at you with 2 fuck off sized broadswords then Muay Thai wouldn't save you.

  • If someone ran at you with 2 swords chances are you'd get killed no matter wtf you did. What are you trying to argue?

  • That traditional arts were made for that kind of defence.

  • No they weren't traditional arts were made the same way as any other martial art. To FIGHT. If someone came at them with a weapon, THEY would grab a weapon. Which is why WEAPON techniques exist.

  • And when there weren't any weapons available or anything to improvise with they had to fight unarmed.

  • Which isn't smart and something they wouldn't do unless desperate....

  • Well when your unarmed and some crazy imperial soldier is running at you with 2 broadwords then you cant really run you have to fight or die. Which is why traditional arts dont use gloves and and fight in a ring with a referee with rules and medical officers at side.

  • martials arts where created by people who didnt afford weapons or anything to defense themselves with so it's not very smart to say you are desperate becuase you dont have any weapon

  • Well in that Situation

If fighting unarmed will not be smart

Then chucking a runner would be wouldn't it

Unless you wanna play dead then i see no options

  • no, traditional arts were made do defend. and its a way to control and harmonies ones self.

  • LOL just say this shit after you've fought a shaolin monk and we'll see.

  • cos i'm gonna travel to china ......

    ahaha

  • Lol keep studying fake kung fu from these fake shaolin priests if u like it.

  • yea, why dont u fight him smart mouth

  • why dont u fight him? lol

  • Nothing more than modern wushu, none of these moves can be used in a fight.

  • na und ?

    er ist schnell ...

und gesund ist's bstimmt auch ...

    don't worry

    he's on his way

    der Horst

  • exactly, Take him to the ground and pound him out or submit his ass!

  • haha these "grappling" people

    do not realize that

there is grappling and ground fighting in kung fu -_-

  • Essentially every style has ground fighting, if you fall to the ground do you stop fighting? Its just a matter of training or not.
