Its fast like you won't believe, but where these 17 hp mowers of today bog I just go right through like nothing. I put 2 sets of blades under it at 90 degrees which was a lot of work because they have a rectangle shaped hole in the center. cutting them out then welding the 2 blades together wasn't hard, just time consuming. My Cub Cadet 147 has 48 inch blades so I use it to mow the pasture, but the heavy stuff gets the Custom because it has a lot more power than my 14 Kohler K321.
I grew up with a 68 Sears Super12. Ours was green from the factory. It ran like a champ all the way up until 2008, so I traded it for a 70 Suburban 12. Now I have a '72 Custom 10XL I have a complete resto on. Shot in PPG Deltron factory sun gold yellow, looks like a million bux, replaced all the bolts with stainless. The engine got Manley small block chevy valves, 3 angle valve job, 8 degree puller cam, bowl blend and K&N filter. It will blow my '71 narrow frame Cub Cadet 147 away.
i see 1 up there LOL never know where thery are going to pop up at ,everytime you go fast forward i alweays think of the benny hill theem LOL sanford and son thats funny :)
Nice machines - i like leaving most my tractors 'as is' ( mechanically works but paint ratty) - why bother if theyre getting used. All my craftsmans are slowly getting repaired and running/mowing - '86GTII running good( want a plow for it, building my own sleeve hitch sometime) , 99 weedeater runnin good too - 85LT12 getting deck rebuilt, 85LT11 getting back in running order ( repaint next year)- unfortunately the 90's GT6000 is DOA.....id like an older sears tractor sometime.
@Chooman69 I'm finding that noises are a way of life for Tecumseh. I just replaced the rod in mine, and while it cleared up the knock, it still ticks like a car with noisy tappets.

@TheSaturnV It's in remarkable condition. He doesn't like it because it knocks. I would never start mine if I was concerned about engine knocks lol
