caffeine is caffeine, 45mg is 45mg no matter if its added to water, derived from a cup or coffee or soda. If you are used to hundreds of mg's of caffeine a day then 45mg isn't going to be much of a blip...
The answer to your question if 45mg of caffeine do give you an energy boost is not neccessarily a matter of placebo vs. real biochemical effect. It's simple as that. If you drink coffee a lot and your body is used (and addicted) to certain amounts of caffeine, these 45mg won't do that much in terms of biochemical effect. If you never consume caffeine and your body is thus not used to it, 45mg of caffeine in fact WILL affect you. Can't believe you didn't consider this ^^
Hey Addict, New subscriber here, courtesy of the Peach top 10.
I drink a scary amount of Caffeine each day. I'll count it today and leave another comment.
Re: Dyslexia...is there a clue in the video?! You called the water Aviaite, when I read it A - vee - tye. We don't have it in the UK so I don't know how it's said, but could this be a sign?
Like your vids so far only got through 4. Catchya l8r. :)
im dyslexic, it basically means you have average to above average intelligence in some arias, but difficulty learning to read and spell (maybe not just reading and spelling, there are other symptoms i think)
Caffeine - If I'm looking for a buzz I go for the Mt Dew or Amp depending on how much I'm looking for. Other cokes don't give me any buzz unless I haven't had any in over a week (but usually 1-2 days into that I get a massive withdrawal headache)
Dyslexia - my sister and I are both dyslexic. I have trouble with sequences and numbers (2 and 5 switch all the time) and my sister is letters, words, sounds. Both honor students - learned to compensate for this ages before we finally got tested
Caffeine pills are like $10 for a 200 ct. bottle at 200mg. per pill. That's 40,000mg, or the equiv. of 888 servings at 45mg. each...for only $10 plus tax.
Yeah, 45mg = placebo. As for "energy water," energy is "the ability to perform work," which caffeine is not: glucose in one's muscles is. The phrase "energy water" is fraudulent, and the sellers should be prosecuted for that fraud.
I try to stay away from caffeine; not good for the circulation. Exercise is much more enjoyable and better for you with an efficient cardiovascular system.
Soft drinks are even worse because the phosphoric acid eats at your bones which can lead to inflammation of tissues around them and increase your chances of breaking a bone. No athlete should be drinking that stuff.
Coffee is just so good. there is this small coffe franchise here in Quebec (La brulerie de café) they have 7 Cafes and they have close to 300 different brands of Cofees, a whole bunch of fair trade stuff (Certified by OXFAM and Equiterre)
1 coffee with indefinite refills + a Gigantic Homebaked pastry for 5$
with this at my doorstep... I dont even think about looking at any energy drinks, theyre expensive, cold and taste like shit.
All the diet soft drinks I drink have no caffeine added (it's rare to find caffeinated diet sodas). But I probably wouldn't get anything from that water, despite the fact I rarely drink coffee anymore. 45mg is pretty insignificant.
Your other question - my husband is dyslexic regarding numbers. Normally he's perfectly fine when it comes to reading/writing words, but he frequently gets #s backwards. He was forced to learn to write w/ his right hand (he was born left-handed), so maybe that's why.
the placebo effect is a very strong tool for marketers. If a designer wishes to take their idea(s) to the next level, all they need to do is to incorporate a seriously heightened sense of placebo-ness.:)
Well, I don't use energy water, but Red Bull and most of its cheaper offspring. No coke for me because there's some acid in it that's hazardous to bone tissue. Coffee, tea, yes, but no Starfucks (they're exploiting their workers paying minimal wages, supporting muslim extremists etc.)
I mean, I would probably get a bit of a caffeine boost off of it, seeing as I have a really low tolerance. A grande starbucks coffee, for me, makes me monstrously energetic for at least four hours. I once had their "espresso truffle" drink - at about 5pm - and that had me bouncing around and talking really fast and singing, and up until about 3am without noticing. A regular pop will give me a little bit of an energy boost. So it's not just placebo - people have different drug sensitivities.
I've always been a bit of a monster, for everything. And I've always drunk quite a bit of coffee. In fact I roast, blend and grind my own, and use a decent espresso machine virtually every time I have a brew, so I suppose I'm a bit used to it.
But no, not for me, nothing really affects me, not even a couple brews before I go to bed.
I get a caffiene(sp? I am too tired to type better) boost from coffee only but only for like an hour. I don't get a boost from soda and never ad that avi-stuff.
I don;t think it's the placebo effect, i just need that little bit to get the rest of me to wake up at work. Not so much a caffeine boost as it is the caffeine providing me a minumum of alertness until the water helps wake me up for real.
Im dyselxic. My hand writing and spelling is normay appalling, but when it comes to 3d images or spacal awarness, everything is really easy. Thats my type of it anyway. Some people have a type, where they have to were colour tinted glasses to read.
Neodevelopmental theropy is something you should look at too. Its the people who study dyslexia.
I get an okay sugar/caffeine buzz from a regular Coke, enough so I can not drink one before going to bed, but it is nothing compared to a grande from Starbucks.
The best rocket fuel is a French Roast at Pete's Coffee in the Bay Area, or the espresso. Great buzz without the jitters.
The worst caffeine buzz is Folgers, it makes your hands shake like an alcoholic, but your brane stays fuzzy.
Im dyslexic. what you want to know. I am actually diagnosed too. but hun there are like over 500 different types of it. I have whats called a "phonetic decoding disorder" but hit me back in a PM and lets talk.
and I also have to drink like pot, after pot of coffee to get a caffeine boost.
I think you can adapt to caffeine, so the more you take in the less effect it has over a long period of time. When I was living in the US, it didn't have much effect on me, but where I live now, they don't have so many caffeinated drinks. Now a cup of coffee can keep me up all night. It wasn't like that for me in college in the US.
Caffeine, like other stimulants, effects different people in different ways.
Tolerance probably has the biggest effect. If I drank a drink like that water or another caffeinated beverage it would probably have a noticeable effect because I have zero caffeine tolerance at the moment (or close to zero anyway). 45mg is enough to show an effect in most people who have no tolerance.
I drink SoBe Life water not because it's healthy and full of vitamiins, but because I like the taste and it IS better for you than soda. For a caffeine energy boost try Vivarin, Jet Alert or NoDoz etc. They absolutely work for me. A sudden dose of 400 or 600 mg. of caffeine WILL perk you up.
There was a study published last year suggesting that men might be more sensitive to caffeine than women. It was also found that the effect could start as early as ten minutes after consumption for some people. It's just one study.
So the comment about dyslexia was a reference to the way she kept mispronouncing the name of the water? Is that what we're supposed to get out of that?
The body is pretty good at handling Caffeine. 40mg will certainly have an effect on me, but I have around 10 caffeinated drinks per year. Paying for it in water is insane though, you could buy caffeine pills and get water for free.
i get a caffeine boost off of a can of soda if i haven't had any caffeine in a few days. i am also particularly sensitive to other drugs, however. *shrug*
I would say that someone with no caffeine tolerance would get a boost from it. I have seen people off the walls with 1 can of coke. The school thought I had dyslexia as a kid and I was tested. Turned out I had a mild case of it, and is just something I can live with.
P.S. GO BUCKEYE'S ........I was at the Wisconsin game VERY KOOL how the crowd spells OHIO in sections around the "SHOE"!!! yore friend from Southern OHIO Hybeerian
I would have to drink 5 GALLONS of that &%$@%$ water to feel a tingle!!! I dyssexia have not!! (but I know a carriers few of disease that!) Hahahahaha......LIVE LONG and PROSPER!!!
dyslexia? i have it. but not a serious case. i swap letters or whole words when reading. so i find myself reading almost everything twice. i enjoy my books twice as long ;)
That probably wouldnt make any difference to me. I need loads more caffiene than that. I was a major coffee addict for 5/6 years. It was like a regular for me to have a minimum of 5 cups of coffee and 4 tabs of paracetamol a day to keep school stress off. And even more coffee on the days I spent studying all night with no sleep. Sometimes went almost a week with no sleep.
Oh and just curious. Like some people here pointed out.. you called it Aviate instead of Avitae. Did you realize that? And do you do that often? Mis-read/pronounce words?
you would know if you'd have dyslexia. you have difficulty dealing with people. you have social issues.
you have spelling and counting troubles.. and thats a very vague description. But.. true none the less. Dyslexia is a broad term given to many people who suffer a social pathetic result.
rarrmonkey.. where did you get that answer for dyslexia?
I find that diet soft drinks give me a sustained amount of energy. I do drink Pepsi Max, which has 69mg of caffeine in a 12oz can. Also has some other crap in it. That gives a significantly different boost.
Yeah, real addicts (like me) need that real shit. Like coffee or a super bad for you energy drink. I think an average cup of coffee has about 200mg of caffine. I try to cut back, but it just sucks not having that extra boost.
It's been a while since I was at school, but isn't the calorie a unit of energy? No calories, no energy....so how do they get to call it an "energy drink"?
He finds it a little difficult to read as it takes him time to recall the meaning of words when he sees them although he's not as bad as some people I have known who describe the words as "trying to swim away from the page when you look at them".
He's also very poor at mentally juggling data.
Quick test: have someone read five random numbers or letters to you.
If you find that fairly easy, try having the figures read to you then repeat them back in reverse order.
My brother could do the first one slightly better than the average population but utterly failed on the second one.
Bear in mind though that 'dyslexia' is a bit of an umbrella term and affects people in many different ways so obviously don't try and take this as a gospel guide. (also, I'm not a medic.)
Your adorable! Ohio huh... Anywhere near Akron? Thats where DEVO is from. I also just found out about Ghoulardi... I wish there was a DVD set for him.
Sounds like your water bottle is a joke. Its all about expresso, I had three today and I'm still awake at one AM
I haven't had that water, but an individual's response to caffeine is very specific. If you are used to drinking a cup of coffee or two a day, that 45 mg. is probably below your threshold. If I drank it late in the afternoon, I would probably be up most of the night and my heart condition might be aggravated. If you are staying hydrated with this stuff, drinking 64 oz. of H20 a day, your caffeine might add up (and I'd be in the emergency room).
Not placebo effect. Caffeine metabolism is controlled by 2 genes. If you have both genes for fast metabolism then you can consume huge amounts with little affect. If you lack both genes, 45mg can cause agitation and sweats.
Small amounts of caffeine in sodas and water only function to make the product addictive to children and boost obesity. In Canada and much of the rest of the world adding caffeine to water or sodas (except colas) is illegal without calling it an energy drink
Thanks for the gene information! I was not aware of that. I wonder if there are other body chemistry variables that affect the absorption and retention of the caffeine. For instance, theobromine, commonly found in chocolate, is one of the ingredients that make it toxic to most dogs. Humans can clear theobromine in their urine at a pretty fast rate, but dogs can't clear it as fast, allowing it to accumulate to dangerous levels. Caffeine response may be affected similarly in people.
Actually it was first known as sherbets, then a slew of names that were not "soda" including soft drinks, fizzy drinks, minerals, cola and tonic. If you want to be an asshole about what people call something then here goes- Soda is a compound containing sodium which includes substances that can make you not alive anymore. Still retarded?
Point taken. Regarding chemical soda - not always lethal, i brush my teeth with baking soda and if they could make teeth whitening fizzy drink that would be rad. So I amend my statement, soda and pop are both retarded and fizzy drink it shall be to me henceforth.
On the other hand pop is a noise, which is still retarded.
Oh I also have dyslexia. Its sort of a blanket term though and doesn't just mean one thing... which only makes it more confusing. There are different levels of severity and different ways it manifests. Personally mine is mostly related to numbers and reading comprehension. This leads to being sucky at math and often reordering the lettering of words that I read. I'm not a horrid speller though oddly enough...
i am dyslexic. basically for me i sometimes have trouble figuring out my right from my left (and i refuse to wear a watch), and when i get really really tired reading is next to imposable.
actually the "energy" in food is provided by calories (the word calorie means "heat" basically), so I doubt you'll get any energy from 0-calories water.
my teachers thought I was dyslexic when I was in 1rst grade, turns out I just suck and spelling, and forgot that the numbers 5 and 6 are facing the opposite way as all the other numbers (they are!).
I do sometimes read words wrong when playing pictionary tho, and I don't even bother with people's names when I read books like Harry potter, where every character has a weird name
I don't understand how they can call it WATER if they've added shit to it. Pretty much every drink is water plus something-- even milk is mostly water in its content.
Well, it sounds like you probably have a pretty high caffeine tollerance. Someone who hardly ever touches the stuff might get a bit of a jolt out of it.
Near is the good one. The genetic mechanism that causes myopia (near-sightedness; lengthened eyeballs) is pleiotropic (has more than one effect) and also causes enhanced IQ (the front of the brain is lengthened in tandem with the eyeball lengthening).
The more severe the myopia, the greater the IQ enhancement. -4.00 diopters produces about .5 standard-deviation IQ boost.
I think you should get tested for dyslexia. I have seen you struggle reading to us. I think I'm too. You probably know that it has nothing to do with intelligence, as I always made to the dean's list when I was in college. As for coffee it is one cup in the morning and that is it.
Nope, never got a boost off of soft drink amounts-the only thing i ever noticed is if i drink a pop around an hour before i want to go to sleep, it takes a long time to get to sleep. Otherwise i dont feel energetic or anything
If there's no misrepresentation, then it has about the same amount of caffeine as a typical can of soda, so I don't get the question. I'm a coffee junkie, so soda IS already like water.
Apropos, here's one of my favorite quotes (from Paul Erdos):
"A mathematician is a machine for turning coffee into theorems."
I don't drink coffee or tea and tend to avoid caffeine, but on the rare occasion when I happen to have something like a Coke Zero I definitely feel a caffeine jolt and notice the caffeine's diuretic effects. I would imagine, if the caffeine dosage is similar, I'd feel the same effects from the "energy water."
Well, soda doesn't work for long, because the sugar raises your insulin levels. Once your body has burned through the sugar, your tired. Does the water have any sugar in it to counteract the bitter cafine taste?
Dyslexia is any visual impairment which affects your ability to see. So you do have dyslexia based on the fact you have glasses. The dyslexia you are thinking about is probably seeing things backward, and you may want to go see you eye doctor about that. Furthermore, caffeine is a mild central nervous system stimulant. It will not have the same effect as say cocaine at the same doses, but it is more addicting than heroin according to my of my pharmacology professors.
I've never tried "energy water" and I don't drink coffee. If I need a boost I use a combination of Amp Energy drink and chocolate. Red Bull may give you the wings but that combo gives you the thrust.
I've never heard of that water but there are so many out there these days. I drink coffee like crazy. I usually drink one or two diet sodas a day as well. The soda doesn't perk me much, if I'm in need of a "fix" a diet soda will work fine. But if I need energy it's got to be coffee. Good idea on the fat free water. Maybe you could market zero carb water as well? Or make a multi-healthy water like, no carb, no fat, zero cals?
I had the same thing said to me when i was in school but i never saw the need to get it confirmed. It doesnt affect me too much when I type but it does when I go back over my work to do corrections and insert new words or lines..... I guess thats a mild case. Its a little annoying when I post comments with mistakes in and someone points it out... I find i have to read over stuff 3 times before I feel confident to post it. :(
Water shouldn't have any so called "minerals" or "Health Additives" in it. It should be pure and clear water, make it cold and your have the best tasting substance ever.
Healthyaddict, check out Kangen water, its water with the the "perfect" pH for you body...... you but the water, you buy the machine (through a pyramid scheme) and it makes your water the perfect pH. Fights caner, helps you lose weight etc.
I'm a coffee in the morning person. If I had a can of pop in the evening, I'd have trouble falling asleep, but it doesn't give me any type of boost. I've never tried (nor heard of) that water.
Oh, we drink tea, just not HOT. Iced tea is very common, especially in the southern US. And green tea drinks have become very common and popular(there is a brand called Arizona that is great!). So yes, we drink tea, just not hot with milk like you guys do. ;-)
I've never gotten any energy boost from pop, coffee, or any of that stuff. I drank two monster energy drinks pretty fast once and I was a bit wired but other than that it's never effected me. Energy water sounds like a stupid idea to me. Great vid!
Yeah I got a caffeine boost from drinks like Dr. Pepper and Mtn. Dew back when I drank them, but of course you have to drink quite a bit. People often drink many times more soda in one sitting than coffee, you don't usually see coffee in 1 liter or other large sized bottles/cups.
I'm discalculic [sic} which means I can't do math. It's sorta like dyslexia only instead of words and letters it's equations and numbers you can't make sense of.
I really enjoy your videos and agree about this water being BS. That said, I sorta hate to (re)point* this out: You asked whether or not you might have dyslexia in a video where you read "Avitae" (ah-vee-tay, I'm guessing), as "aviate" (ave-ee-ate). I think it's a simple enough mistake that it's otherwise unnoteworthy, but since you inquired and seemed interested in knowing, I decided to make note.
*(I checked and noticed user WatcherThePunk also pointed this out a few comments back)
Are you sure you're not thinking of Pepsi Max? Max is diet Pepsi with extra caffeine. And although I have never had Pepsi One, I'm pretty sure that it is Diet Pepsi with Splenda instead of Nutrasweet. (I remember looking at it in the store once to see what the difference was). BTW, Pepsi Max is good. I have had it many times.
In Japanee ubermarkets, diet water is a really well elling franchise. On the bottle "DIET Water. H2O with 0 calorie, 0fat, 0 sugars" I think the bottle are Englih on one ide and Japanee on the other.
I have a friend who ha dyslexia and get's word like "weird" and "wired" or "cured" and "crude" confused. He reads alot slower too.
People who don't drink caffeine regularly are more sensitive to caffeine. Those people who drink this water would probably get a boost. If you drink caffeine regularly, you are much less sensitive to its effects.
I have a bottle of dasani water next to me that says 0 calories also. It's pretty standard.

The body is pretty good at handling Caffeine. 40mg will certainly have an effect on me, but I have around 10 caffeinated drinks per year. Paying for it in water is insane though, you could buy caffeine pills and get water for free.

I would say that someone with no caffeine tolerance would get a boost from it. I have seen people off the walls with 1 can of coke. The school thought I had dyslexia as a kid and I was tested. Turned out I had a mild case of it, and is just something I can live with.

I don't feel it under 200mg. Although...
When my gf worked at a candy company's graphic design dept, they had access to a tub of powdered caffiene.
Yes. a 1kg TUB of PURE CAFFEINE DUST.
She let me open the tub once. Touching / inhaling the resulting airborne dust was enough to get me wired pretty bad.

ricardas83 2 years ago
Hey Ash-ley..
The effect of caffiene can be variable depending on an individuals sensitivity or tolerance to it. So totally depends..
I havent seen any sorta caffienated water in the stores here. I guess they simply choose to call it an 'Energy Drink' here.
BlueRose241 2 years ago
That probably wouldnt make any difference to me. I need loads more caffiene than that. I was a major coffee addict for 5/6 years. It was like a regular for me to have a minimum of 5 cups of coffee and 4 tabs of paracetamol a day to keep school stress off. And even more coffee on the days I spent studying all night with no sleep. Sometimes went almost a week with no sleep.
BlueRose241 2 years ago
Oh and just curious. Like some people here pointed out.. you called it Aviate instead of Avitae. Did you realize that? And do you do that often? Mis-read/pronounce words?

Yeah, real addicts (like me) need that real shit. Like coffee or a super bad for you energy drink. I think an average cup of coffee has about 200mg of caffine. I try to cut back, but it just sucks not having that extra boost.
seanThree16 2 years ago
It's been a while since I was at school, but isn't the calorie a unit of energy? No calories, no energy....so how do they get to call it an "energy drink"?
dave28lax 2 years ago
People build a tolerance to caffiene. If you're on 300 mg then 45 won't do anything. For me it could give me a slight boost.
ayk1987 2 years ago

My brother has fairly moderate dyslexia.
After a short pause, repeat them back.
Venator70 2 years ago
If you find that fairly easy, try having the figures read to you then repeat them back in reverse order.
My brother could do the first one slightly better than the average population but utterly failed on the second one.
Bear in mind though that 'dyslexia' is a bit of an umbrella term and affects people in many different ways so obviously don't try and take this as a gospel guide. (also, I'm not a medic.)

Is that 45mg of caffeine in the entire bottle?
To be fair, Someone with no tolerance would get a fair jolt from this. Me? yeah, I was taking in 600mg a day at one point.
Had to stop after a day of heart palpitations. Not so much fun.
Cold turkey for two months broke the habit and allowed me to ease back to about 100mg a day.
Still get twitchy if I take it all at once but otherwise much better.

healthyaddict 2 years ago
I haven't had that water, but an individual's response to caffeine is very specific. If you are used to drinking a cup of coffee or two a day, that 45 mg. is probably below your threshold. If I drank it late in the afternoon, I would probably be up most of the night and my heart condition might be aggravated. If you are staying hydrated with this stuff, drinking 64 oz. of H20 a day, your caffeine might add up (and I'd be in the emergency room).
laraesque 2 years ago
I think you need to cut down on your caffeine, My mother, sister, and I have dyslexia. Why do you think you have it?
Silentisdeath 2 years ago
Not placebo effect. Caffeine metabolism is controlled by 2 genes. If you have both genes for fast metabolism then you can consume huge amounts with little affect. If you lack both genes, 45mg can cause agitation and sweats.
Small amounts of caffeine in sodas and water only function to make the product addictive to children and boost obesity. In Canada and much of the rest of the world adding caffeine to water or sodas (except colas) is illegal without calling it an energy drink
sef789 2 years ago
Thanks for the gene information! I was not aware of that. I wonder if there are other body chemistry variables that affect the absorption and retention of the caffeine. For instance, theobromine, commonly found in chocolate, is one of the ingredients that make it toxic to most dogs. Humans can clear theobromine in their urine at a pretty fast rate, but dogs can't clear it as fast, allowing it to accumulate to dangerous levels. Caffeine response may be affected similarly in people.

Toledosteal 2 years ago
Actually it was first known as sherbets, then a slew of names that were not "soda" including soft drinks, fizzy drinks, minerals, cola and tonic. If you want to be an asshole about what people call something then here goes- Soda is a compound containing sodium which includes substances that can make you not alive anymore. Still retarded?
TasteOfGreen 2 years ago
Point taken. Regarding chemical soda - not always lethal, i brush my teeth with baking soda and if they could make teeth whitening fizzy drink that would be rad. So I amend my statement, soda and pop are both retarded and fizzy drink it shall be to me henceforth.
On the other hand pop is a noise, which is still retarded.
Toledosteal 2 years ago
Fizzy drink is fair enough, and I would totally drink teeth whitening fizzy drink even though it sounds like it would be dangerous.

Near
healthyaddict 2 years ago
Near is the good one. The genetic mechanism that causes myopia (near-sightedness; lengthened eyeballs) is pleiotropic (has more than one effect) and also causes enhanced IQ (the front of the brain is lengthened in tandem with the eyeball lengthening).
The more severe the myopia, the greater the IQ enhancement. -4.00 diopters produces about .5 standard-deviation IQ boost.

If there's no misrepresentation, then it has about the same amount of caffeine as a typical can of soda, so I don't get the question. I'm a coffee junkie, so soda IS already like water.

Mackaframmalamma 2 years ago
