  • how to you make that other sound, not the bassline

  • Why are people such haters? If you haters could produce so good you wouldn't be youtubing how to produce certain things... and if you came across it by "ACCIDENT" then okay but still no need to hate. At least homeboy here is doing something that you're not which is why you're mostly jealous about. I think He does an amazing job showing us newbies what's good! :)

  • Nice work. Even though I've been producing for years, I still learned a couple of things. This Vid was useful. Thing I love about this software, you never know everything and it's nice to see how other people approach making music.

  • Awesome teacher !

  • oh dear :(

  • When using the16th notes the sound gets muddy

  • Any chance of a screenshot of the notation or midi:)

  • DOES NOT SOUND A THING LIKE JUSTICES BASS LINES.

  • @lordzbordom mines a little better, I think?

    D:

  • Finally a good tutorial. I would make it a bit fuller. With what program did you record your voice by the way? I'm looking on doing that to for my tutorials.

  • Well, still a bit soft. Try some cross-modulation on top of the ring one. With saws and squares. :D

  • Awsome tut man. Thanks a lot!!

  • yeaaah !!!

  • OU EM GI FUCKING AMAZING!

  • The Tom idea is very simple But soo effective XD thanks

  • fucking horrible

  • what's the name of the program?

  • Why would somebody dislike this?

  • @reticulianoverlord because they were looking for a link to a preset for a program theyy use because they dont like making music themselves they all want presets and crappy sounding clone songs

  • @chaz9123 Laaaaaaaame. I feel so proud after constructing a synth like this, even if I watched a video on how to do it. Not to mention, when you make it yourself, you see exactly how each knob and level functions in the entire sound, so if you need to work with the sound, you have some idea what to do.

  • @reticulianoverlord what do you mean laaaame.....i just explained what you said.......if you do a walkthrough of how to do things you see how its done and how you can tweak it and mess around to get your own sound and find out new ways to use a program just like you would in a lesson in college or school they show you how to do it so you can do it yourself if you download a preset you have no clue of how it was made and which button does what

  • @chaz9123 I was saying presets are lame, as are the people who download them.

  • @reticulianoverlord oooh thought you called me lame D= soz dude XD

  • Brilliant, thanks!

  • thanks for your help dave!

  • why dont you guys ever fukin show what to draw with the pencil?!?!!!

  • where are ya from, man? you sound like you're from the north

  • you are a god man

  • wooooo if only your drums had a different tone this would be insane

  • What did you use for the slap bass?

  • joostice

  • whats this whole program called!?

  • @VictorRaber Reason 4.....-.-

    y is everyone asking ????

  • @VictorRaber Reason

  • I think someone is a dirty little boy Mr. commentator... ;)

  • would you recomend backing this bad ass mofo of a bass with a sub bass?

  • THANKS ALOT YOUR A GENIUS

  • DUDE you definitely need to turn down the background music in ur vids, i want to hear the tut not the music.(not that the music is bad, cuz its not just very distracting lol)

  • Your windows is tuned in pink?? lol that is SO fashionable xD Thanks for the tuto dude, good job!

  • Thor is the Vst you used ?

  • Thor is a Reason synth, that can only be used in Reason.

  • @VernianProcess no, you can use it also in every other program!

    just use REWIRE!

  • @VernianProcess It CAN be used in FL Studio. In combination with ReWire ;)

  • great tutorial. i'm sure someone else mentioned it here, but to avoid the notes muting the redrum channels (or indeed playing notes directly) you can use the combinator's programmer to stop notes being sent to the redrum. thanks for this great set of tutorials. i'm watching them all in order and learning a lot.

  • ha ha well done dude. do you also have a tutorial for beginning french?lol great tutorial very simple very efficient unlike others

  • thnks alot for the totorials it was realy helpfull :)

  • lol his voice makes me want to knock him out :@

  • Hey, your videos are awesome and your website its like a library of ideas,, any chance you could do a video on fading in and out on reason.. cheers..

  • love the sounds you get man makes reason a pleasure would love your knowlege

  • In this vid you see that the redrum sometimes mutes inside the combinator as dave explained. It could happen that your sidechain signal gets muted and that the bassline doesnt get sidechained.

To remove the muting: Go to the combinator and press 'show programmer'. Inside, click on redrum and switch off 'receive notes'. This would take away the problem you could have with sidechain signals not being produced.

    Hope that helps!

    Great tut ;) 5/5

  • hey how do u make a video like this??

  • Dude, I have been waiting for you to use some side-chain compression and after watching your trance/house seven day tutorials, I have been working on a track that I'll soon be posting as a video reply but I'm not really proud of it yet. This has solved one of the issues I'm having with the track.

I could hear you fine over the music btw; I majored in Audio Production at a local community college so I have very discerning ears.

  • really nice

    which programm do you juse?

    keep it up dude

  • fucking complicated !!

  • turn the music off cant hear u

  • Funny, I can hear him clearly.

  • Hi!

About the side chain compression bit, any particular reason (haha) why you don't just route a tom track from your first Redrum to a track in the general mixer, the fader of which you turn all the way down, then put the Aux4 of that track in Prefader mode, then route the Aux4 send of the mixer into the side chain in of your compressor?

Thanks for the great tutorial mate!

  • How do you make that "squiggly" sound at :27?

  • he explains it in the vid.

  • I found it hard to hear you over the music at some points, but I absolutely love how you describe the math behind the components. Keep up the awesome tutorials!

  • great vid thx

  • reason looks like such a good program!

    im gettin it soon hehe

    good stuff btw

  • OCD :P ha

  • that tune is seriously awful !

  • the tune was, the bassline was perfect though. I could make a grimey ass track using that bassline

  • dude all this guy's stuff is mad corny.

  • are you going to tell me that the bassline was bad. With the right percussion this would be a sick ass track

  • thanks, captain obvious. i always thought his videos were meant to be gangster. thanks for helping me realize that he's not gangster at all.

  • what is this and where can i download it?

  • Really good !

  • could u tell me what sample u use...? would help alot in determing wether i'm doing it right or i'm just screwing it up :')

  • awesome accent ! :P

  • Hey Kid

I don't know if anyone has told you, but you can in the Combinator set which devices recive midi input. In the programmer.

  • check out luckydate he does it and you can download it

  • Lol love the comments on the outro.. ;)

  • mmmmmkay

  • are you releasing anymore sample packs with sounds like this?

  • If you taught a class, I'd pay full attention.

  • Thx !!!!

  • Are you Jesus? now don't lie to me!!!

  • Did the hair give me away?

  • Haha i think that's what gave it away. Great website by the way. Much success in everything you do man!!

  • omg :)

  • Amazing tutorial! You are a god!

  • "Start speaking in French, using questionable religious imagery on you album cover, and you will not find anyone, who can resist dancing to your new dirty pumping electro house base line... " that phrase nailed it! nice tut!

  • Holy 5H!T. This is any awesome tutorial. This is by far the best one I've seen to explain the Justice sound. I've been looking for something like this for a while and you did a FANTASTIC job at creating an effect similar to Justice's. I love how you explain what the different effects do as how different Oscillators and Effects change the sound. I subscribed immediately. Keep rocking it!

  • Check out m4tt3h's tutorial, it is completely incomprehensible but sounds even better then this one. Very complicated to make also...

If anyone knows how to make this dirty sound with logic, pleaaaase tell me!!

  • Why not use a limiter instead of the compressor? This way the bass transients will be sharper and you can still control the release time of the bass instead of having to choose a tom to create that same affect. Know what I mean or was that clear? Anyway, GREAT video man. Loved it.

  • "Know what I mean or was that clear?"

    -------------------------------------------------

Do you know what that sounds like - You know what Im talking about or do you know what Im talking about?

Dont pretend to be smart...the limiter has nothing to do with the release time of the side chain effect. A tom, as a sound, is longer than a kick, thus giving you larger scope for adjusting the side chain attack and release times

  • damn dude i can't ever fucking figure out how to use this program, for one i dont have a midi controller

  • thanx this is so cool and helpful

  • thanks very much

  • y don't you turn the music off while your explaining...

  • Hey man! Awesome tutorials on your web.. I've been looking for this long long time.. keep up great work Dave!

  • Thanks Man!!!

  • ahh, i really guess i'll have to upgrade won't i...? would this be achievable in reason 3?

  • no sorry.... but you can try.......torrents! ;)
