  • Nice Purdie Shuffle dude!!

  • This sounds purdy!

I stumbled across your videos because I once played geeeetar in a band with a Mr Chris Baston and Ms Jo SomethingOrOther. Ah the times, and the goodness of them.

You are one hellz of a musician. Too bad we never crossed paths!

    Keep groovin.

    Mr M.

  • needs some gravy on it.

  • That was tight...I hear the fire dept. comin' by 'cause U were smokin' that groove!!! That's my 2nd fav Dan track to play after Green Earings!!! Good sound for not being miked!!!

  • Isn't this Babylon Sisters? Sounds like it from the start...

  • @djro No

  • @djro well its the same shuffle....

  • Wow. You've got it down! This is a really hard beat to play.

  • Glreat job. You've got the feel, the groove and the attitude down. I've been trying to nail this groove for over 30 years, and only now is it starting to come together. Thanks for the post.

  • thanks for the comment, that means an awful lot to me

  • Great sound, I've been messing around with this song and Babylon Sisters for about 2 years now. This may sound strange, but I've played this with making the backbeat on the high hat for (1) hit then draging the stick onto the snare ( as a single Ghost note ). I think this is what Mr. Perdy is actually doing in the studio. I've never posted anything on drumming, since I'm not a trained drummer. Could you try it and tell me what you think ?

  • Well I'm sure it would get a similar sound yeah, I've watched BP though and he doesn't seem to be doing that. Which is not at all to say that it shouldn't be done!

  • Such a powerful drumbeat, it is enjoyable to listen to by itself, repeatedly! Great job capturing its many subtlties.

  • Thanks very much. Yep its an awesome rhythm and so fun to play :)

  • The Perdy Shuffle!! Brilliant.

  • or "Purdy" rather.

  • Thanks! Yeah its one of favourite grooves. At the moment I don't have any excuse to play it in any of the bands I play with though, its pretty disappointing, but I live in hope! :)

  • Jeff Porcaro of Toto was inspired by the drums of this song when he wrote the drums for Rosanna.

  • Yeah! I saw that on his video. Jeff is one of my absolute favourite drummers alongside Bernard, Tony Williams and Elvin Jones

  • Nice shuffle again ! See you haven't vacuumed for 3 weeks (cleaner still in 'Babylon Sisters' position.)

  • lol! Well actually I did this the same time as Babylon Sisters, but you're right, I didn't hoover for about a month.. neither did my flatmates :P

  • big steely dan fan. nice.

  • yeahh. slightly obsessed I am but you know, I guess there's worse things to get obsessed about... right? lol

  • You know what's funny? I was just about to tell you that there's a clip of a keyboardist on youtube who does a superb version of Deacon Blues. And it was you!! Keep up the good work.
