Man, he's aged A LOT. He kinda changed the song, not just the rhyme (which is obvious) but kinda how it feels. It's more 'groovy' than depressing how it was when recorded. Still a great song, but it doesn't hit that sad nerve until the final last notes.

But yeah, that'll add age to anyone. And you're damn right, it's the real shit in life that kills us.
