Okay I figured that is what your using it for and it looked similar to a Microchip dev board. I think I have the Atmel STK500 as well. Not much info on these phones. I have 3 of these and I got off ebay. Two work okay, but they all have various issues. They are not listed on Motorola's open source site. I think they were developed in India. They work great as a simple phone or backup phone.

Oh that's a STK500 from Atmel. But I'm only using it for UART to RS232 conversion! You could say I'm just abusing the board for level shifting:
0 to 5V to/from cellphone
converted to
-12 to 12V to/from PC

What does the serial connection allow you to do with the phone?

Hello lesswatt,
nothing so far :-(
I'm still trying to find out what protocoll this phone is using. Doesn't look like UART to me when monitoring the signal with a logic analyzer...
