I used to sell a lot of my unwanted electronics on ebay. Paypal did something that pissed me off real bad (wouldn't allow me to touch my money, wtf?), so I started selling my stuff on craigslist instead. No middle man, no seller fees.
They hold your money so that they can gain interest of it.
They pretty much have an unlimited supply of money which they can use to buy shares, gain tonnes of interest, and make a big profit from their "Free Service".
Why would you want to wait 21+ days for your money in the first place? Ship the item, provide tracking, funds released 3 days after delivery. Solved.
You have 45 days to file a dispute so if you do your "30 day wait" the buyer can still open a dispute when they get the item. Now, you have got your money, withdrawn it and you think everything is good. Buyer opens a dispute, you don't have the funds... Guess who goes negative while the dispute is open? You do.

I sold an item for $0.99 on Ebay last month plus $5 s&h. The buyer paid me by Paypal and when I went to check my Paypal balance it stated the funds were "On hold for 21 days" because I had made "no sales in the last 90 days".
I've been selling for 7 years and have a 100% feedback rating. So what if I hadn't sold anything in 90 days. Fact is, I've been turned off from selling on Ebay lately. Fees and rules are absurd!

So, I just found out about this the hard way today. However, thanks to the amount of discussion out there regarding this scam, I think I was able to avoid it. I called PayPal and they wouldn't release the funds. However, they said if I simply called them with a verifiable tracking number, before it's been delivered, they could release the funds. However, I told the buyer that I'm going to have PayPal reverse the payment, and I will send him a PayPal invoice for "goods" unrelated to eBay.
pt 2...have them buy from paypal directly, and have them select goods, not ebay items....and there absolutely nothing ebay can do about it....you can mark the item paid for, and shipped...this works
wont work because of dsr ratings....buyers are impatient and they wont wait 30 days..and will rate you accordingly....over 2% of any dsr rating (or 1% of item as described or as i call it item as assumed since people arent readng anymore), and the hold comes on ALL you sell....there is a trick...
refund every buyer thier money on paypal...then contact the buyer saying you made a mistake, and now the ebay/ paypal link is gone....so could they please go to paypal DIRECTLY...
ebay & palpal are one & the same. I goofed bigtime as a newbie... no tracking or signature shipment means automatic refund to the buyer who already has the item you sold them. it happened to me, & there was nothing i could do about it. So when more than the amount lost equaled in my ebay fees... i walked away. fuck you ebay.
Buyers don't always try to scam sellers unless from Indoneisa, Nigeria and places like that of course.. Here's another great way to beat the system and give 100% proof you had the item.. Take Good quality pictures and put your user ID like a label or something next to it while you're doing it.. That way they know it's more likely yours than you trying to use some google photos..
it dont matter buyer always win seller can always be screwed you need video proof go into post office show the worker show the item before and while you tape in the box if it electronic turn it on and off then show shipping label thats the only way also if they ship back and its not the item review the weight of it or even better dnt use there services anymore

Cant prove you never had the item? Take lots of pictures and maybe insert a card with ur user name written on it.

and even with all that you still count rule out CHARGEBACKS... Banks have the final say paypal with try to fight and will charge you another $10 to do so!

when I switched to premier they haven't been holding my money, yay!!! when I had a personal account, they would charge MORE fees plus hold my money.. Just try premier folks!!! btw, i'm not here to support paypal in any way I'm just telling you my experience..
It's annoying and it really effects me as a seller as I have to ask the buyers to leave pos feedback before I send the item. It puts pressure on them and makes me look bad >:(
Who the heck is going to wait 3 weeks for you to ship the item??? That will not work!!! There is no way around the holds. Some fucking cunt tryed to steal my gold rolex, he got a refund and after two weeks of waiting i never got the watch back BUT after two weeks i thought FUCK AM I LOSEING MY WATCH, so i took his mail address from paypal, typed it into google map :) FOUND THE CLOSE'IST POLICE STATION TO HIS FUCKING HOUSE and had him arrested, lol he had the watch on and everything.

Same bullshit has happened to me, I think paypal is taking things a little too far. Not only do they hold funds, but they charge you fees for ANY transaction you make, they are stingy pricks and think they can control any money that you earn, and we are powerless against these scam artists.. I'm about to not use paypal anymore, because I have already gone through all the enough shit of giving them my bank info and telephone..
the only way this may still work is if you put in your description in big 32 size font make it bold too and say 30 DAY HANDLING TIME. if you dont the buyer will complain and say he never saw it. this is bull shit. this has me so pissed off.

(also in the 6 months they will keep the interest your money is making, so its a scam!) example: if your selling on ebay and always make $20 here...$30 there...ok...BUT if all of a sudden you make say $1000 in one sale...they will shut you down to "Investigate". that happened to me and now all my money is held by them!...google "PayPal lawsuit" or PayPal sucks...

Btw, Ebay DOES NOT care about your item description or shipping rates or timeframe.
You can argue you stated all the terms and rules in your listing BUT Ebay WILL ALWAYS favor the buyer, whatever absurd claims they make.
30 day handling time doesn't mean crap! The buyer can put in a claim at 30 days and Paypal will find in favor of the buyer.
Screw Ebay and screw Paypal, There is already a mass exodus started in the last couple of years!
