  • As usual, the comments on your videos are enlightening, magnatom.

According to some of these posters the best course of action every time there's a motorist approaching is to jump into the grass. Sure, if it's a matter of life and death, but suggesting that it should be a common reaction? No. And magnatom DID move out of the way as the situation needed. But auto-is-always-right, right? And btw, the bike light he uses is very bright, and I'm going to guess that he had his high-visibility coat on.

  • Get yourself a blue flashing light and switch it on when you see a lorry approaching. The driver will think you're police or an emergency vehicle. That's the only way a lorry driver will give you any room. The majority of them haven't got a clue, and have no respect for cyclists.

  • LOL at this cyclist. You saw the head lights miles away and still stay on lane?

Just fucking move over. The majority of you cyclist lack common sense. One day you are gonna get hit by a car/truck because you didn't want to move over or stop for a few seconds.

    I

  • @HowToDoCalculus how to do calculus?

  • you not think that it could be because he is driving a 30-40 tonne artic on a wet single track road and perhaps he is thinking " if i slam on my breaks now i could run the risk of jackknifing into that wee clyclist who has a candle for a headlight and mibby flattening landing me on a death by carless driving charge, aw hell he is on a bike and can easliy stop and put a foot down on the kerb to let me pass"

  • @mrsausauge Never heard of a bit of anticipation, like planning ahead and slowing down, and pulling over? Of course not, this lorry driver couldn't have given a stuff, which is why he didn't slow down and pull over.

  • So you know the road is narrow, you know its dark, you know that there is an oncoming large vehicle, you know you are on a bicycle that is difficult to see and you know that the edges of the road are not very good to ride on. Yet this still came as a surprise to you? Really?

  • @gezza403 That is the point this guy seems never to get, even though maybe the other drivers are at partial fault, mr magnatom could avoided every incident he posts by moving the fudge over, no problems for anyone :) happy days

  • If you see the lorry coming towards you, why did you not move?

It seems that you either look for trouble or your one unlucky fella!

  • @MrCharf Rubbish, the lorry driver should have slowed down and pulled over to make a safe pass.

  • Omg.. Scary

  • @bitter 'n benighted

  • ''You need to grow a pair of nuts''. To just dive straight through a gap of less than 2 foot, in the dark, with a speeding lorry coming straight for you? And what for? So you can ride away on the other side of it thinking you're Evil Knievel? It's ok, your family'll understand when you're under the wheels. You will survive though, 'cos you've got nuts, right?

  • @SMA380 You're not a cyclist, so you dont understand just how vulnerable a road user we are.

If you pause at 0:23, you'll see there is very little space between the lorry and the grass.

Its not an acceptable pass at that speed.

Slow down and It be fine in my book.

Im not one to complain about close passes either.

  • @Wonkynees

    haha

  • you funny

  • @SMA380 I've driven class one goods, and if you think that was safe, you shouldn't be be driving a roller skate. Even if there WAS enough space to squeeze past (which was only because Magnatom was forced off the road) the driver was going FAR too fast to be able to stop if Magnatom hadn't.

If he'd done that on his test, it would have been abandoned there and then.

  • @SMA380 Would you pass your test driving like that? I'm certain you wouldn't.

  • @CyclingMikey @Camsplint Actually that's where your wrong, I am a cyclist, push bike and motorbike. Personally I think you need to grow a pair of nuts, if he was that close his wingmirror would of scudded you on the head.. and at 23 seconds, you can't see fuck all. When the lorry is beside him there's fucking plenty of room!

  • @SMA380 What is the approximate width of a flat bed HGV that is capable of carrying a tractor?

  • @magnatom 8 foot

  • @SMA380 Using google maps to calculate, the road width is 13.5ft. About .5ft each side is unusable as it trails off into the grass. That leaves 12.5ft. Assuming 8ft width, that leaves 4.5ft. I would not want to be closer than 1.5ft from tarmac edge in the dark (wheel position) so taking into account I've already taken 0.5ft off from my side that is 1ft. That leaves 3.5 ft. To the right of my wheel I extend 1ft. Leaves 2.5ft. Assumes he is right at edge (he wasn't)...

  • @SMA380 Absolute minimum acceptable passing distance in ideal (bright, dry etc) conditions for a car is 3ft. Hmmm. Was this too close? If you want to check my road measurement, this is Tower Road near Torrance

  • @SMA380 Whatever you are, your level of judgement has you thinking that your 2" of willy is a fat 6 incher, going by how you estimate the available room on this video.

  • @CyclingMikey haha you stupid looking bastard you. grow a pair

  • @SMA380 Bend over boyfriend, and I'll give you some.

  • @SMA380

Ye're a daft b****r! You don't believe that yourself - look at your own "Why I love life on the road - Lorry Driving in Scotland." Aye - nice driving ------- h**l, you're showing consideration for the sheep!

Come on - does the driver on this video match up to the way you drove there? Don't think so!

  • Can't slow down, the driver really needs this week bonus!

Professional drivers need higher penalties to counter the financial rewards they get for driving dangerously

  • @TheVexatiousLitigant Delivery-based pay, or any pay system or practices that encourage "making progress" driving should be made illegal.

  • @CyclingMikey I couldn’t agree more, actually, I could! Ultimately any professional driver that does not “perform” a task within a set time when others can (perhaps by driving unsafely) will likely be seen as the driver to be made redundant should an employer need to reduce employee numbers. IMO this puts all professional drivers under pressure to “make progress” regardless of the absence of bonuses etc. I felt this pressure as a Milkman in the UK and I ran the whole day, without bonuses!

  • @CyclingMikey Excellent point Mikey!

  • Christ, that's scary - no reg plate I presume.

  • @SkrzyczykBass A little bit harsh! Not all truck drivers are murderers. Some of them are rapists too!

  • He's probably in a hurry to dump the body of the prostitute in his sleeper cab!

  • @SkrzypczykBass Harsh, Mark, harsh!

  • It is a real shame you couldn't see his license plate.
