  • Man’Oooh Man! Amp sounds absolutely incredible. Might be one of the meanest Tweed Deluxe’s I’ve heard. I can imagine though that any pickups other then single coils would sound pretty dark thru that amp. Even P90’s seems like they'd sound dark. But he’s right, the amp does sound mature. Sounds broken in, which is always nice. Sounds loud! I know it’s absolutely cranked towards the end, but it's actually “SOUNDS LOOUUD! You can very distinctly hear it breaking up. Wonderful!

  • THat sound is tasty maaan

  • Awesome playing and sound!

  • Is this running 6V6's or 6L6's?

  • Super amp !!! Amazing sounds !!! Hey Greg have you ever

heard a Pierson amp ??!! If yes, tell me what have you think about ...

Continue making videos cause they are great !!! Really love your album too !!!

  • Love the comment about sounding like it's been through barroom brawls. Great playing, as always.

  • What makes this amp preferable to say, a Victoria 20112? Just asking..

  • @LarryRickenbacker Victoria makes incredible amps, I loved my Double Deluxe amp for years but never played their 20112..... Inspiring tone is such a personal and subjective search but I have a feeling both makers offer great versions of the classic 5E3 circuit but it's best to play them both and see what you dig.

  • @GregVmusic Hey Greg is that a Swart AST Master sitting next to the acoustic behind you?.......By the way what is your desert island amp? a Swart, Sommatone, Tungsten, something else? I really respect your opinion. Just asking.

  • @GregVmusic Do Tungsten amps take pedals well?

  • What song is that, at 7:12?

  • @Anitrop A twisted take on classic Neil Young.

  • @Anitrop Thats Greg's spin on "Cinnamon Girl". Loved the little 10 second CG tag he added at the end of it. Thats definitely an obscure piece of Neil Young history.

  • that's a very nice guitar shake vibrato technique you have there.

    nice demo.

  • @Knukleheada Thank you!

  • this and the real sound warm and enveloping America for good in this music you are number 1 ... but amplifier?

  • @iroshi73 Right on!

  • tele classic vibe MIJ or tele standard MIM?

  • @karlapsm Custom Shop Nocaster.

  • You may have already answered this question, but what speaker is in that amp? Love the sound and playing.

  • @jcshirke For this demo it's the Scumback M75 but I changed the speaker, not long after this demo, to a Celestion G12H30 Anniversary speaker and the amp sounds even more incredible. Extended bass, complex mids and clear musical highs, plus it's even louder with more headroom. This speaker really allows the Crema Wheat circuit and tone to be maximized. I love G12H30 speakers!

  • hey many harmonys do you have? DO you have any kents goya or normas?

  • @burntvalve86 Just the one Harmony, great guitar.

  • Austin Powers?

  • Hey Greg, nice job on all your clips. So I love tele's and since you've played both an LSL T-bone to a custom shop nocaster, how would you compare the two? ..not sure which way to go. And would you recommend anything else. Thanks in advance for saving me some of the leg work.

  • @g52372 They're both great Tele guitars and hard to go wrong with either. Just find an instrument that speaks to your heart, whether it's $200 or $5000 buy what makes you dig deep into your soul to create a better world.

  • Tungsten in swedish mean Heavy stone.

  • Great sound .I hear hiwatt tones in there, sounds like Pete Townsend meets Keith Richards 2 me. LOVE IT.

  • @monsterlabeffects Thanks!

  • Greg, you make the best amp demos! Beautiful playing.

  • @ploukusa Many thanks!

  • You really have to love those old tweed amps...they really did build the rock & roll sound, also that amp sounds fantastic in that room.

  • Great playing and sick tone!

    love it :)

  • @Laurentvb92 Right on, thanks!

  • Great demo.

    Great playing.

    Great tones, nice amp.

  • @jdm6446 Thank you very much!

  • Great playing and awesome tones.

Can you tell me what speaker is on there?

And what kind of tube is in V1?

    Thanks

  • @timrobrus Thank you. For this demo the speaker is a Scumback but not long after this video I changed to a Celestion G12H30 Anniversary and now the amp has more defined, deeper bass, lively mids and smooth extended highs, plus it's louder which is better for live gigs as well. Tubes are factory stock but don't remember the make, perhaps email Adam at Tungsten Amps for details.

  • Amazing tones, excellent playing too! Loved the Cinnamon Girl part! I didn't think Neil Young sounds were possible with a Tele, but this gets close! Is this a normal 5E3 Deluxe circuit? You've converted me to Teles from Strats, especially with the bend thing since I'm used to having the tremolo. I think I'm going to buy a Tele and a Deluxe now.

  • @slpplexi1969 Thank you very much! The circuit is very, very close to the traditional 5E3 circuit with exceptions as noted in the video. I love tweed amps and I really love teles into tweed amps!

  • Comment removed

  • @GregVmusic Could you do another demo and play Funk #49 (James Gang), the solo in Hotel California, Purple Haze, Rolling Stones, and a Jeff Beck song? Those were all Teles, and most were played straight into a tweed Deluxe or another tweed Fender.

  • Hi Greg,

I want to say that I just love your playing and tone. I think I've watched all your posts now and I have to say this particular demo is a highlight for me. I guess it's because around halfway through it, the tone gets so good you can't keep the grin off your face! Neither could I. Thanks a lot for all the posts.

  • @geedubbia Thanks for the good words and glad you like the video and my playing!!

  • Thank you so much for this info! I was planning to get a 20 watt amp with my electric guitar, and I wanted to see if the amp was good enough with 20 watts. My brother tried to convince me to get 10 watts..but that's not enough for me

  • Comment removed

  • @extremecandy101 Thank you, hope you find the right amp to enjoy and find inspiring tone with!

  • little less reverb

  • @jelledegitaarman I dig it. From the description above: "The voice mic picks up the ambient room sound and a small room reverb was added in post production to replicate a more accurate room sound since no one listens to a speaker 1 inch off the grill cloth which is where the mic is located."

  • Damn fine tone. Excellent sounding amp. You have a wonderful touch.

  • @tatsandteles Thank you very much!

  • Hey Greg! Ray Burton is mightily impressed with your stuff! Tells me he sent you a blurb on him. I'd love to see a collaboration between you and him.Would be a great mix I feel! Let me know how it goes! Cheers, Robert.

  • @bobbee09 Hi Robert, thanks very much for your support!

  • Greg: When you mention swapping the speaker for a G12H30... did you mean the Heritage or the Anniversary? Celestion has too many speakers called the same thing... ;-) Thanks...

  • @GTRJohnny66 Anniversary G12H30 is what I use, it's my favorite speaker. I don't like the Heritage version as much, it seems less lively and not as detailed or articulate. Love the Anniversary!

  • Hi Greg! Awesome videos and playing as usual!!!

Just wondering how you would compare the Tungsten to the 3 Monkeys Orangutan? Which 6V6 amp sounds better and do they both take pedals well? I love both but I worry about the power of the 35 watt Orangutan. It is probably too powerful from my needs, but boy does it sing! I guess I can always solve that with an attenuator. I know you are quite busy so I truly RESPECT and APPRECIATE the time to you take to read and respond to this post! Tx!

  • @gprivateinbox I really appreciate it, thank you! For me both amps you mention are killer. IMO, there really is no "better" when it comes to tone, just different. Also, the videos I've done really show the two amps sonic character better than any words I could type.‬

‪I know this doesn't answer your question, because there is no direct, easy answer, but hopefully it shows how much I respect that searching for tone is a very personal journey. Thanks again!

  • Greg thank you so much for responding back to my comments! I put a lot of merit in all your comments relating to your take on the CREMA WHEAT w/G12H30 speaker and decided to go with CW/SPEAKER combination! You would be surprised if you knew just how many people had bought one of ADAM's CREMA WHEATS purely off what they heard in your DEMO's of this amp! I plan to get a ZOOM Q3 Recorder and do some quality clips with my CW soon! Thanks for inspiring us all to be better players!

  • @gibbymy335 Right on! Thanks again for the super positive words and thoughts regarding your speaker preference with the G12H30. You already know I love that speaker so much and I'm glad to hear you find the same tonal improvements when put into the Crema amp.

  • I recently bought a 59 deluxe with a celestion G12 Vintage Celestion and yes it has more headroom, volume and cleans. sounds more clear. I love it and i have never been a celestion fan.

  • @124slowhand Congrats on the new amp, gotta dig the Celestion in there, nice!

  • People if you are on the fence about which speaker to go with on the CW it is basically 2 choices in tone! 1-Scumbag gives you the classic "5E3 COMPRESSED MIDRANGE TONES" with a good focused bottom end and a nice sparkle on the top end!2-G12H30 gives you more of everything all the way from the bottom end to the top end with "MORE CLEAN HEADROOM" and definitely holds your clean tones longer before breaking up! You can't go wrong with either speaker choice! Quintessential GRAB-N-GO combo!

  • @gibbymy335 I agree with your sonic assessment, well said.

  • I know this clip had the SCUMBAG in your CW!!! I hope to have some QUALITY CLIPS of my G&L LEGACY STRAT and 3 P-90 REVEREND thru the CW soon!

Chris at THE AMPHOUSE hadn't heard the CW yet with the G12H30 until I went

up to his "PLACE" to pick up my CW in BLONDE TOLEX the other day! He was

completely "BLOWN AWAY" by how huge the CW's projection was with the Celestion speaker in it! Man Humbucker's absolutely "KILL" with the G12H30 in

    the CW!

  • @gibbymy335 Chris is a great guy and I'm glad you both heard how killer the G12H3o0 speaker works with this amp. Look forward to hearing your clips, right on!

  • Greg! I just snagged one of ADAM's CREMA WHEAT'S with the Celestion G12H30 after hearing your video clip with it! GOOD GRACIOUS does this amp "RIP AND

SNORT" with lots of "CLEAN HEADROOM" which is very much due to the extra sensitivity of the G12H30! When you get the volume levels up to about 8 or higher the breakup comes in and it is just amazing how "ARTICULATE and TIGHT that the lows and mids stay on the CW with the G12H30! I got it from Chris Staton at "THE AMPHOUSE"! Thanks GREG!

  • @gibbymy335 Thanks very much! Awesome! So glad to hear that your Crema Wheat w/ the G12H30 is rockin' for you. It's my favorite ceramic speaker and works beautifully with Crema Wheat as you well know

  • Thanks Greg! A wild thought....I have a friend, Ray Burton, whos is a great singer/songwriter from downunder. He co-wrote a Billboard No.1 in the seventies called "I Am Woman"Kn ow it? He's got a big catalogue of songs that he's been recording lately. I'd like to put you in touch with him. I could see a possible great collaboration.

  • @bobbee09 Sure I remember that hit song! I appreciate you thinking of me to work with Ray.

  • I also have been very impressed with your playing, which reminds me that even on electric, not just acoustic, the guitarist should sound good and completely musical on his or her own, even before adding other instruments.

As for this amp, I've just bought a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III Limited Edition with Celestion V30, but it tends to get boomy at louder volumes. Do you think the Crema Wheat is much better in this and other regards?

  • @tanukibrahma Thank you very much! Sorry, I've never played a Hot Rod Deluxe amp. I do love my Crema Wheat and no issue or concerns with boominess. It's just supremely toneful and inspiring for me to play through.

  • Hey Greg, thanks to you I bought a 51 nocastera relic. You got great sound and play fantastically, thanks for the inspiration.

  • @macao1977 Thanks and congrats on your new guitar!

  • Who are you playing with these days Greg? Sessions, bands etc.

  • @bobbee09 Just getting settled into living back in Los Angeles after being in Nashville for 4.5 years. No live playing currently, doing more internet sessions.

  • Great Sounding clip!! I know on The Gear Page you mentioned liking the G12H Anniversary, which speaker is being used in this clip??

  • @Ubered This clip has the Scumback speaker but soon after this video I've changed to a Celestion G12H30 and LOVE it! My Crema Wheat now has more defined and extended bass, thick lively mid-range and super musical treble and is louder with more clean headroom as well. It's my favorite speaker.

  • Greg, I seriously think of you as one of the best guitarists ithere is! Each and every video your'e in is a delight to watch/listen to! Will you please tell me your greatest influences? Thank you for playing the guitar!

  • @haalkan I'm grateful you enjoy my playing and appreciate the kind words, thank you. I love so many artists from a wide range of genres, basically any artist who is authentic, heartfelt and has a true identity. Just a few are: Adele, old Elton John, Bob Dylan, Mark Goldenberg, Bill Frisell, Hendrix, The Meters, Bulgarians Womens Choir, Roy Smeck, Allison Krauss, Buddy Miller, Emmylou Harris, Manchester Orchestra, Ted Hawkins, Chris Whitley, Daniel Lanois, Brian Blade, Jim Croce, Aretha Franklin

  • @GregVmusic A few more artists I like: Lynyrd Skynyrd, James Brown, Ali Farka Tour'e, Nat King Cole, Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffith, Kasey Chambers, Bill Haley and the Comets, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Magic Sam, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Mahalia Jackson + others....

  • @GregVmusic Well thanks again Greg! I'll try and adopt some of them:) Keep on doing your thing!

  • Hi Greg, is that "Fender 51 Nocaster" pickups in that guitar with Alnico 3 magnets, the model you can buy new these days? Or are these older vintage? Will try to find whatever you have in this guitar, sounds lovely! (although I'm no where near your playing skills :-)

Best regards from Sweden - Jonas

  • @JonasSweden1 Thanks very much! My Nocaster is 100% stock from 2000, I think it has the same current pickups but have heard the 2000 versions are slightly different. However I had a 2001 Nocaster and it was nearly identical in every respect.

  • Greg. How about getting your buds at Line 6 to model this amp for the HD500? If you can do the DrZ Route 66 as well as you did, you can do this amp. Sounds incredible and you're one killer guitar player.

  • @CrazyDiamond1968 Thanks glad you like the demo and my playing!

  • I feel like Saleri talking to God about Mozart! "Why did you bless that nerd with talent like that and not me!!" Just kiddin' Sir, you are a delight!!

  • @bobbee09 Thanks!!

  • Austin Powers reviewing an amp... Cool!

  • @lesliejimmusic Cool, thanks!

  • I love the way great gets blown away by the amp at 4:29! It's a true, sincere sign that this amp must be amazing to hear in person!!! Greg is truly inspiring with his playing. I never enjoyed listening to anyone else as much as enjoy listening to Greg! You moved up the ranks to my favorite guitarist - move over my past icons from the 80s! Greg is here!!!

  • @conrad4444 Thanks, I'm grateful you enjoy my playing!

  • Hi Greg, Jonas from Sweden. Your playing and amp tone in this clip is just pure.....FANTASTIC!!! How much is that amp? Cheers - Jonas

  • @JonasSweden1 Thanks! I don't know the cost, check out their website for full details.

  • wow, same set up that I have pretty much. The guitar is the best I've owned or played. My amp has a 1961 Jensen P12N alnico in new condition and the cabinet is 100% aluminum.

  • Do you ever find the high E to be ice picky?

  • @dparel No

  • Thinking of purchasing a voxac15h1tv?. What is your favorite comparable amp?

  • @vgw1971 I've never tried the Vox you mentioned but lots great amp choices these days.

  • Dude! Where did you learn to play?! Love those licks at about 5:34 and wondering where you picked them up. Smokin' playin', smokin' amp. This amp goes on my list.

  • @dohootowl Thank you! I started out loving all styles of music and players, basically anything real and authentic, from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Bob Dylan to Beatles to Elton John to Aretha Franklin (+ many others) but I never really copied people much. I always thought the goal was to develop your own licks and musical style. I just make stuff up that sounds and feels good within my heart....

  • How do you compare the nocaster to the grosh electrajet p90 and VT? Which is your favorite and why?

  • @conrad4444 All guitars/amps/effects are just tools to discover new and inspired tones with, so it's difficult to compare and say what's better, it's so subjective and personal. The Grosh has combined many modern details to a classic template and carved it's own sonic niche.

  • @GregVmusic Thanks for the reply Greg! You make me want a Nocaster so bad! I found a few with custom nocaster pickups but I also found some with custom Abigail Ybarra pickups. Do you have any experience with both pickups and can you describe the difference? I am looking for something with less icy picky tones in the bridge position, but also interested in know which set sounds better and offers the best tone and versatility.

Needless to say, awesome playing! I seriously idolize your style!

  • @conrad4444 Thanks very much! Sorry I've never tried the AY pickups you mentioned but my Nocaster is 100% factory stock.

  • I like your video and sound quality. Do you mind sharing what video/audio gear you are using? Excellent demo, by the way.

  • @montanaokie Thanks! All videos, except this one (was Macbook Pro camera), are done with HD video and ProTools audio. SM7 or SM57 close mic into Chandler LTD 1 pre, Cascade ribbon room mic into Martech MSS-10 pre. Mixed all together in ProTools and with video in Final Cut.

  • hey greg, love your playing...i played a Nocaster the other day. It ah...well didn't sound the same. Must of been a bad guitar!

  • @aaronready1 Thanks!

  • any pre/post reverb added here Greg?

  • @ddw132 See description for details or here's the excerpt: "The stock Fender Nocaster Tele is direct into the amp, no pedals were used. The voice mic picks up the ambient room sound and a small room reverb was added in post production."

A tiny room reverb was added to replicate a true listening experience since no one ever listens to an amp with their ear 1" off the speaker grill which is where the mic is positioned.

  • Greg V, I stumbled upon your demo, and must say you are one hell of a great player! Do you ever use a pick? The entire demo appears to be you and your fingertips, nothing else. I dig the look you give at 4:28, that look of astonished joy at the fabulous tone pouring out of the Tungsten. Great amp! And great playing! You inspire to play more. Mahalos!

  • @jondotkom Thank you very much! No pick used in this video but I do use a pick for some things (less and less though)

  • wow this is a raw natural and very controllable sound. very nice.

  • @BOULDERDP Cool, thanks!

  • Hi Greg,

Have you ever compared your Nocaster to a Suhr Classic T? I was wondering how you deal with the single coil hum in a live situation and I know that Suhr offers a silence single coil system (ie., essentially a dummy coil).

    Thx.

  • @conrad4444 Never compared it, but hum is all part of the single-coil sound, I just embrace it....

  • sounds dumb but whats the dffrence btwn a telecaster and a nocaster

  • @123marijn321 They're essentially the same guitar, just a different name because of a conflict with Gretsch (drums) over the name Broadkaster in the early '50's. Broadcaster was the original name given to these guitars back in 1950, so for a few months Leo Fender cut off the portion of the decal saying Broadcaster (leaving only "Fender") hence the "Nocaster" name been coined by collectors over the years. Leo then changed the name to "Telecaster" since television had become a big hit. Same guitar

  • @GregVmusic thanx dude

  • @GregVmusic

Which CS Nocaster is that? The neck looks highly figured. Nice.

  • @Ev630 It's a 2000 CS Nocaster, big neck and some flame but I think the lighting makes it look exaggerated perhaps.

  • I think you should include "Scumback M75" in the video description too because this amazing demo is also an excellent example of the classic mushy Greenback mids sound.

  • @vecinto The stock speaker is nice for sure. Not long after doing this video I put a Celestion G12h30 Anniversary speaker in my Crema Wheat. The amp now has more 3-D liveliness, bigger bass, complex mids and treble clarity plus it's more efficient so the amp is louder and has more headroom.

  • one of the best amp demos on the net i think for sure

    thank you for doing this....

warm molasses to briarbushes - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

  • @twirlyboggs Thanks very much!

  • i love your playing

would like to have a telecaster like that

  • @lukas28ytb Thanks very much, mine is Custom Shop from 2000 and I really enjoy it.

  • I DIG your guitar sound on your CD!!! Love your Nocaster! NICE guitar!

  • @knikk77 Thank you, hope you enjoy my CD!

  • Hi Greg,

Help me decide between a tele and strat. It looks like you prefer the tele. However, outside country how would you rate the tele vs strat?

    Thx.

  • @conrad4444 Guitar are just tools to provide different tones. I've always played teles and really dig them a lot and have never really gotten on well with strats. Teles are raw, I've always said they're basically "lapsteels with round necks" and strats are certainly more refined with body contours, complex trem bridges etc...

  • The interesting thing about the 5e3 circuit is that has a signature tonal characteristic regardless of make. This is demonstrated by the fact that the optimum vol and tone settings are consistent with nearly every model from 195x to modern day.

  • How come you chose an sm57 for this demo, usually I see you using an sm7b :)

  • @skurtix No reason, other than it was already on the mic stand, both are great mics.

  • How come you never demo the Swart AST Pro behind you? I just saw it briefly in a demo of the Timmy, but then the focus was on the Timmy :)

Is that an SM57 on the cab btw?

  • @skurtix Yes 57..... Check out my first Grosh Electra-jet demo and LSL tele demo for the Swart AST and AST PRO amps. Even though I'm demoing the guitars the amps get a great tonal demo as well.

  • @GregVmusic Just watched it, awesome playing as usual!

  • Which small room reverb (plug-in?) do you use?

  • @skurtix IK Multimedia, T-Racks3 small room reverb

  • 4:27-4:33. I love those moments. Your face is priceless man... Rock on.

  • @kingjoemom Right on!

  • I just ordered the new BuckWheat (Crema Wheat's bigger brother) --- same circuit but instead of 20 watts -- it will be 30 watts. Not on the website yet -- but I got a feeling that will be the must have amp of 2011.

I am sure Greg you will be getting one of the first to demo.

  • @LazNJ1 Congrats on the new amp, hope I can demo it.

  • Comment removed

  • @GregVmusic thanks --- should be taking delivery in a month or so. I hope you do a demo --- your demos are way more enjoyable and insightful than reading a manual --- LOL

  • Great sound and playing.

  • @yesmon4real Thanks!

  • Hi,

woah, I like your style of playing very much mate!!! Sound of the amp is great as well.

  • @002frunzi Thanks very much!

  • GregV- have you gigged with the Crema Wheat as of yet? If so, how was the experience?

  • @whitemtntn Yes and it absolutely rocks for me, perfect amount of headroom and cuts through the mix.

  • Firstly- fabulous demo, really enjoyed your playing... I see you added some reverb post-production. Practically speaking, do you miss reverb with this amp?

  • @whitemtntn Thank you! Since no one listens to an amp 2" inches off the speaker cone, a small room reverb has been added to replicate the "room sound" you'd hear if you were in the same room with the amp. On great lower powered tweed-inspired amps I don't miss reverb.

  • beautiful. Have you had a chance to play through the Cortez?

  • @Bobbybookoo Thank you! I've not tried the lower wattage Cortez but have heard great things about it for a straight classic 5E3.

  • shagadelic baby!

  • would you say its pedal friendly?

  • @joelkeaton Sure, I think it works great with pedals.

  • OK I'm a fan I'll buy his cd..just humbling tone phrasing and technique..

  • @cwhanna Thanks for the support, hope you enjoy my music!

  • can i just ask: does this amp have a 12AY7 or a 12AX7 in V1?

  • @000steelandstone000 V1 is 12ax7.

  • love it

  • @Mferch Thanks!

  • if you had to choose one out of this and the swart which whould it be?

  • @ryanwthorne I love both amps equally and glad I own them.

  • how loud does this amp get before breakup? i love master volume amps, but im really wanting a tweedy sounding amp. any other amps from tungsten like that?

  • @marvelboy04 "Loud" is a really subjective word. For me, the amp is perfect wattage for decent volume drummers. Check out Tungstens site for more models.

  • Hi Greg. I love the tone you get out of this amp. I have a Bogner Mojado 15W head (I know you have played the Mojado combo) which is a great simple amp - BUT I can only really use it for gigs as it is SO loud - is this because it's single ended? You seem to get such sweet early breakup with the Tungsten. It's hard to tell from my computer but is this an amp you can easily record with & have fun on at bedroom levels too? Superb demo mate.

  • @bodd66 Thanks! You won't get much breakup at bedroom volumes but the amp responds great to pedals so you could try a boost/overdrive pedal for lower level gain needs.

  • can i ask what speaker is loaded in that cab?

  • @000steelandstone000 Scumback M25 but I've since changed the speaker to a Celestion G12H30 Anniversary. The G12H30 speaker has more bass, 3D midrange and clear treble, plus it is more efficient so the extra headroom is great for gigging.

  • Comment removed

  • Grooovy Baby!! You really shagged that tone Austin.
