1) the message is sent in binary and the user isnt alerted to it.

2) once they have control of the phone they have all your numbers. so just by association of the first person they send it to they could very quickly have a huge list of phone numbers.

Better method of protection than turning off your phone - either /delete/ a txt message with an attachment from someone you don't know ... or ... just jailbreak (since it's legal to do so), download MobileTerminal and then change your root password from alpine to something else you can remember - simple and it can protect your phone from nasty shizz!

to fix this bug, backup your iphone

after receiving the sms, hold down the power button and the home button until the apple logo appears

When it appears, release the power button, leaving the home button pressed.

Another screen should show up that has a USB, arrow, and the iTunes logo. when this comes up, you can release the home button.

Now plug your iphone into the computer, restore the ipod, and that should fix it

based on what i heard, the bug is that iphone sms runs embedded applications as soon as you receive the sms. It sounds like the virus used injects code directly into the operating system, and modifys some operating system files in order to achieve vulnerability.
