David Lean PUSHED hard on Jarre to get it right with all his films. AND even told Jarre when they btichin at one another..that he would win another Oscar. AND he did.
The same happened on Passage to India...Lean cut back the music to only 20 minutes in his 2 hour and 40 minute film. Jarre was upset..There is a CD Soundtrack that has music on it...that is NOT in the film. Jarre won another Oscar for A Passage to India. AND plus he won an Oscar for Lawrence of Arabia. NOT bad.
What wonderful music - fabulous orchestration. Fantastic color in the use of very Russian / Eurasian motifs and instrumentation (balalaikas etc). Watched this last night and it is still breathtaking even after 50 years - Bravo David Lean et al!
Yes dave, see this movie.David Lean and Maurice Jarre are both genius and together the results are brilliant. Set against an historical event of tremendous tragedy, the raw emotion in this movie is powerful. Julie Christie and Omar Sharif both give wonderful performances. Julie is just so beautiful. It's one of the great movies.
Like this very much ! The movie Doctor Zchiwago was filmed partly here in Finland because the Soviet Union was the a closed society. I mean the winter parts.
This is another one of those epic films made back in the days when they REALLY made some movies. The music is just part of the magic that is this film.
Brings back wonderful memories of a superb story, film...and of actors almost all forgetten now...and moving music too of course... David Lean and Maurice Jarre were true masters
elmer bernstein did 200 movie soundtracks ,maurice jarre is number 2 with 159 scores ,then there is gerry goldsmith with 103 then dimitri tiomkin with 102 .
Never have thought that he ( Maurice ) has written the sound track for tis film. Now I know where his son JEAN-MICHEL got his talent from ! RIP Maurice your son continues with ' your ' work albeit in a different way. Simply great
The theme that begins at 5:25 was always one of my favorites from childhood. I did not know until now that it came from the Doctor Zhivago soundtrack. thank you for posting, freeasabird.
Many thanks to Freeasabirdd for this magnificent video. My music is classical and jazz and my channel is different; it is dedicated to the music of Honda Minako who left us at 38, in November 1985, from leukemia. This is music she loved and should have performed with her most beautiful soprano voice. It is a film that underscores the beauty of the life she led. I would be remiss not to share this with the many friends I have made, and I shall. Thank you.
This music is the most awesome ever written and has been my favorite since it first came out, I can't stop playing it over and over, and it's great to see it played in this video. Thanks for posting. All this comes from a hard rock drummer of all things.
and David Lean who for many of us is a Giant in film history. Thank's for many fantastic moments in the past, now, and when I will see your fantastic films once again in the future.

This stunning music and the face of Dr Zhivago's face which is changing from misery to hope. It is so inspiring for me too every time I see it.
As intelligent as David Lean was to let Omar Sharif to play Dr Zhivago, as intelligent was S. Kubrick to let Ryan O'Neal to play Barry Lyndon. And all the other actors in these two wonderful films are also fantastic! And both these films has wonderful music too.
This is a great Maurice Jarre piece. Another wonderful one of his is the scoring he did for "Is Paris Burning?" It's on youtube. Give it a listen. Thank you for sharing/
It's truly amazing.... Maurice Jarre can, without a word, communicate the bitter cold of the Russian steppes ... and the flaming passion of Zhivago...
The paradox of this concert is jarre started out studying engineering and switched to music ,pasternak started out studying music and switched to literature .
this film was nearly filmed here in Finland because in the 1960´s the Soviet Union was really a closed empire. But this describes the happenings before the revolution in 1917.
Gosh ... how I adore the original productions ... actors...castings... The originals are always the bests...remaking can never beat it... at least that's how I feel about it.
This love story superbly produced by Carlo Ponti and directed by the master David Lean was MGM's biggest hit after Gone With The Wind, there are likely hundreds of thousands of girls named Lara after the ineffably beautiful Julie Christie. That was how I got introduced to Maurice Jarre's music. That music he composed has always guided my taste in music toward listening to something in that direction. I am happy with the music I have listened to from your pen, Maurice and everyone seems to be listening to lara's theme today, thanks to you! RIP

never in this century was a film score soo moving soo powerful. on your emotion;s.
makes you weep when you hear it. and then want to with a womderful lady when you hear this.
takes you back to another era.
tou feel for the little boy(young Yuri), when his mother passes away and he's looking out the window to see if somehow she'll come back to him.
