  • I think it rather sad that this music seems better known for Ray Connif's drippy "Somewhere My Love", rather than the stirring music uploaded here. Thanks.

  • never in this century was a film score soo moving soo powerful. on your emotion;s.

makes you weep when you hear it. and then want to with a womderful lady when you hear this.

takes you back to another era.

tou feel for the little boy(young Yuri), when his mother passes away and he's looking out the window to see if somehow she'll come back to him.

  • georges, terrific, he ws one of the best ever composers we have had. I can't help playing over and over again particularly its wonderful overture. Sad and lovely.

Blessing both David Lean and Maurice Jear.

  • I wish there was an optional version that just looped the intro and left out the "Somewhere My Love" facet.

  • Now that's music! :)

  • Nossa!! tanto tempo eu procurei esta reliquia, fiquei emocionado caso tenha outros, favor me enviar obrigado!!

  • Beautiful music and spectacular arrangement................

  • Most beautiful piece of music. I just saw Doctor Zhivago the musical in Sydney. It too was amazing. One of my most favourite love stories ever.

  • UNFORGETTABLE!

  • Director,Composer, and Actors-This is the classical DREAM WORK film!!!!!!!

    Noone can beat that!

But this piece of music is just exceptional work of art.

    Bravo!!

  • David Lean PUSHED hard on Jarre to get it right with all his films. AND even told Jarre when they btichin at one another..that he would win another Oscar. AND he did.

The same happened on Passage to India...Lean cut back the music to only 20 minutes in his 2 hour and 40 minute film. Jarre was upset..There is a CD Soundtrack that has music on it...that is NOT in the film. Jarre won another Oscar for A Passage to India. AND plus he won an Oscar for Lawrence of Arabia. NOT bad.

  • magnificent !

  • Tragedy of millions of people under Great Repression.

  • Good art doesn't gets older. I live in Brazil.

  • PIĘKNE

  • esta musica es un regalo de DIOS

  • can you imagine Marlon Brando in this role?

  • Whats the big clock infront of the conductor for?

  • wow immortel rien à dire

  • omar

  • This movie also had one of the greatest lines of all time in my opinion, when Dr. Zhivago says, "I just want to LIVE!"

  • Precioso, es fabuloso...gracias maestro

  • ... Somewhere my LOVE.

  • ... Somewhere my LOVE.

  • ...this is what happens to Love when the power's that be RULE? (what is that?)

have Conrol..... Isn't it shameful that knowing this, we don't care?

  • MS Spector,

Your "hubby" coluldn't light a candle to this production + 1000 more so LAY OFF !!!

  • Frezzing cold and lonely BUT LOVE.... MY OH MY!!!!

  • Fantasztikus,csodálatos........

  • Such a grandesse.... It's just undescriptible *.*

  • What wonderful music - fabulous orchestration. Fantastic color in the use of very Russian / Eurasian motifs and instrumentation (balalaikas etc). Watched this last night and it is still breathtaking even after 50 years - Bravo David Lean et al!

  • Yes dave, see this movie.David Lean and Maurice Jarre are both genius and together the results are brilliant. Set against an historical event of tremendous tragedy, the raw emotion in this movie is powerful. Julie Christie and Omar Sharif both give wonderful performances. Julie is just so beautiful. It's one of the great movies.

  • Very majestic

  • Kool.

  • Like this very much ! The movie Doctor Zchiwago was filmed partly here in Finland because the Soviet Union was the a closed society. I mean the winter parts.

But mostly I admire this music. Superb !

  • @FinnMove Great soundtrack, i heard it many times, but strangely enough never seen the movie, I'm going to have to change that soon lol

  • schon tot?

  • @Crassenstein Keine AHnung. In unseren Herzen jedenfalls nicht!

  • @Crassenstein Zeite Antwort: Maurice Jarre starb letztes Jahr.

  • Jean-Michels dad...... :o)

  • This is another one of those epic films made back in the days when they REALLY made some movies. The music is just part of the magic that is this film.

  • Brings back wonderful memories of a superb story, film...and of actors almost all forgetten now...and moving music too of course... David Lean and Maurice Jarre were true masters

  • elmer bernstein did 200 movie soundtracks ,maurice jarre is number 2 with 159 scores ,then there is gerry goldsmith with 103 then dimitri tiomkin with 102 .

  • @rolandoissa

O filme é baseado no romance de Boris Pasternak

  • AAAA 031027Z MAY 2010 Thank you for posting.......AR.

  • Never have thought that he ( Maurice ) has written the sound track for tis film. Now I know where his son JEAN-MICHEL got his talent from ! RIP Maurice your son continues with ' your ' work albeit in a different way. Simply great

  • The theme that begins at 5:25 was always one of my favorites from childhood. I did not know until now that it came from the Doctor Zhivago soundtrack. thank you for posting, freeasabird.

The excellent film and this musik. Perfect artwork

    Thanx for posting

  • This music is the most awesome ever written and has been my favorite since it first came out, I can't stop playing it over and over, and it's great to see it played in this video. Thanks for posting. All this comes from a hard rock drummer of all things.

  • OMG, I was young, and I had been falling in love with Julie Christie in this movie!

  • fantastica

  • Merci

  • and David Lean who for many of us is a Giant in film history. Thank's for many fantastic moments in the past, now, and when I will see your fantastic films once again in the future.

  • When Dr Zhivago live with his family in the country house, and suddenly the spring appear - and the film play this tema - is in my opinion one of the most beautiful part in film history. This stunning music and the face of Dr Zhivago's face which is changing from misery to hope. It is so inspiring for me too every time I see it.

  • spring appears with yellow flowers!

    Unforgettable.

    Masterpiece

  • As intelligent as David Lean was to let Omar Sharif to play Dr Zhivago, as intelligent was S. Kubrick to let Ryan O'Neal to play Barry Lyndon. And all the other actors in these two wonderful films are also fantastic! And both these films has wonderful music too.

  • film piekny muzyka cudowna

  • LA CHANSONE DE MON AME

  • Awesome!

  • Music of the other world

I often wacht this movie for listening its wonderful music. Rusian spirit is on it.

    Maurice Jarre forever!!!

    Heavens are with you, Maurice!

  • This is a great Maurice Jarre piece. Another wonderful one of his is the scoring he did for "Is Paris Burning?" It's on youtube. Give it a listen. Thank you for sharing/

  • Amazing!...no words!..

  • It's truly amazing.... Maurice Jarre can, without a word, communicate the bitter cold of the Russian steppes ... and the flaming passion of Zhivago...

  • Now that's what I call a sound track!

  • splendid

  • Rest in peace, Maurice Jarre.

  • The paradox of this concert is jarre started out studying engineering and switched to music ,pasternak started out studying music and switched to literature .

  • this film was nearly filmed here in Finland because in the 1960´s the Soviet Union was really a closed empire. But this describes the happenings before the revolution in 1917.

  • Jarre was told to be too old to learn any instrument. So he turned to composition. Haha.

His son, Jean-Michel Jarre, is also an achieved composer/musician/innovator.

  • Gary macfarland started playing the vibes in his twentys so they called him the adult prodigy .

  • What is that clock at 2:03?

  • He uses that for an example of live syncing of music to film in this concert.

  • I asked the smae hting a while ago...Apparently he changes the tempo based on time in the film.

  • There may be a more stunning and deep film score from the 20th Century, but I can't think of one....superb, superb...

  • Thanks for a wonderful.... (words fail).....Lara think of me now and then...

  • Un des plus grands compositeurs au monde.

    R.I.P.

  • SIMPLE : MY MOVIE MY MUSIC

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!

Thank you Sir David Lean and Maurice Jarre for having give us two wonderful master pieces of cinema: Doctor Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia.

  • Simplemente .....Maravillosa !!!!!!!!!!

  • Merci Maurice Jarre de nous avoir laissé tant de belle choses qui nous rendent heureux. Si le paradis existait, c'est sûre, que vous y soyez déjà.

  • Gosh ... how I adore the original productions ... actors...castings... The originals are always the bests...remaking can never beat it... at least that's how I feel about it.

  • Laggie24, you are certainly right, I also think that originals can never be beaten, especially with this movie... One of my best choices ever...

  • WONDERFUL.............

  • A truly beautiful video the music is outstanding and Maurice Jarre was a fantastic artist. RIP.

    Thank you for posting.

  • This has become one of my very favorite melodies of all time; and the movie is incomparable also. Maurice Jarre was a genius: sad to see him go

  • classic movie. shame that Hollywood, with the exception of Walt Disney Pictures, rarely makes movies like this anymore.

  • Büyülü bir film ve müziği. Çok seviyorum.

  • This love story superbly produced by Carlo Ponti and directed by the master David Lean was MGM's biggest hit after Gone With The Wind, there are likely hundreds of thousands of girls named Lara after the ineffably beautiful Julie Christie. My favorite scene is the one where Ms Christie sees Zhivago after so many years, the look of love in her eyes...grandest of acting.

Kudos for the music of Maurice Jarre who captured the Russian Revolution, the love story of Zhivago and Lara all in one..

  • in remember of Maurice Jarre thanks for all never forgotten

  • I love this song

  • Beautiful scenes, wonderful MUSIC, truly values of this Masterpiece...

Thanks to David Lean, Maurice Jarre. Rest in Peace.

    THANK`S Maurice Jarre R.I.P.

    ok.bye bye.

  • I remember my mother got an LP gift for her birthday called "The Living Strings". It was a compilation of the most beautiful instrumentals from film scoring. That was how I got introduced to Maurice Jarre's music. That music he composed has always guided my taste in music toward listening to something in that direction. I am happy with the music I have listened to from your pen, Maurice and everyone seems to be listening to lara's theme today, thanks to you! RIP
