I just dug my 540C out of a box that had been hidden for about 10 years, plugged it in and it fired right up! Unbelievable, and crazy about how it works after all these years. I wish there was a market for for mine, in the high-priced antique electronics area; I'd like to make a fortune on this )

So (BLEEP) pissed off. I was cleaning my jobs storage and I found this laptop in a box GREAT condition after the place hasn't been cleaned up after 15 years. lol it just depends what OS you have, if its older than windows me ull have troubles, xp, vista,7 they work fine in sleep mode, maybe your computer just sucks?

Otherwise known as the Blackbird. Great old model laptop, though I'm surprised yours has twice the ram of mine and boots slower. I'm running 7.5.5. I think you can get a better Java system installed, but It certainly won't do flash.

With Quicktime, it makes a nice little midi player and JPEG viewer. It can do some games pretty well. I have Doom and Wolfenstien 3d on mine as well as a few smaller games, including Bricklayer, which is the best Tetris game I've played.

The sound is not in the OS, It's stored in the firmware. That's why you can't change it on any mac.

That alert sound, Sosumi, is a sound for a lawsuit with The Beatles, Apple Records did not want Apple to have any audio recording/video recording. However Apple did do that on this one (audio). So they created the sound: So Sue Me (Sosumi). Its even in OS X

I love my old PowerBook 1400cs, I'm having a hard time getting system 7.5 or 8 for it though. I know you can get the system software from Apple's website, but do you know by chance where you can get it in .iso or some other disk image format.

Execpt the first Mac I ever owned was a Macintosh Plus. It was great. I had an SE, SE/30, IIci, Classic II, Color Classic, Quadra 950, and PowerMac 5260 in old categories. In 1997 and 98, we bought a Bondi Blue iMac, and a PowerBook 3400c. I have the SE, Plus, Classic II, 5260, and 3400c living today.

I have a Powerbook 540c in my basement. But it has no power supply to charge the batteries with. Any alternate way to charge it?

And I fixed the dead batteries (they originally would not hold a charge at all) by leaving the machine on for a day straight and running intelligent battery recondition about 50 times. It still doesn't finish the reconditioning process, but nevertheless I can get more than 45 minutes of cordless power now. :)

Hi there. I was having the same problem as you with the constant java error messages popping up in netscape, but I sort of fixed it by unchecking the java enablers in network preferences.

Browsing is alot faster now without having to deal with all the error messages.
