  • Wow! Really nice job!

  • Wow! Really nice job!

  • Some parts were kinda strangenthw way you sang them, 6/10

  • Fantastic voice, I love it.

  • Think it's real bad people now days can't make there own tracks, dnt get me wrong, ya done a well, but then again I can get my daughter to sing it jus as good. Either way my point is "they dnt make em like they use to" !! And that's a dam shame !!

  • This is the best version I ever heard. When you was singing on the beach i said to myself "who is that"? you looked so familiar and then I remembered, Saad Hariri of Lebanon. He is your double. Great music...thanks.I needed to learn the chords for this song and your version is so clear and distinct...perfect~!!

  • real life and deeply soothing

  • Very well done

  • awesuuuuuuuum........

  • this is has got to be the best cover version ever and the video is cool. Where did you shoot the video Rick? 9/10

  • @TractorBoy50 ...

Thanks a bunch!! Most of the 'current' scenes are from coastal towns of Brazil, such as Recife, Buzios, Paraty, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, etc... The actual scenes of me singing are from Paraty, which is a historic, "World Heritage Site" now. Really cool 17th century town with it's iconic pier. The 'flashback' scenes are all from the United States. At the time of filming, I was literally contemplating about 'how I got here from there' ... in true fashion of of the song's lyrics.

  • @rickdevin

Fabulous stuff Rick. I fly from the UK to New York in June 2011 and after a few days in the Big Apple I travel to Flagstaff, Vegas, LA and then San Francisco where I will sit in the Dock Of The Bay...Thanks my friend.. Phil

  • This takes me back to my days in the Marine Corp and on my off days sitting on the docks in the morning watching the boats heading out....

  • Forgot to say: GREAT VIDEO! looks like you've had an interesting life so far. Salsa and samba on!

  • Very cool cover Rick of one of my all time old favorites. I'm listening on the Bay of Panama, 2000 miles from my ole' NYC home. Somewhat like you I went from NY to St. Lois to San Francisco, to Mexico, back to NY and then south here. Brazil is a rockin country with beautiful women and great music. Hope your life is good there and may it always be ascending.

  • è FANTASTICO PARLATE ITALIANO CAPITO.

  • Aye no bad :)

  • Great song!

  • Way to go, Rick! This is one of the best covers of this classic I've ever heard. Well done vid, too! Congrats!

  • very well done! :) great rendition.

  • Ich finds echt gut.. :)

Zur Zeit spielen wir das lied auch in der Musikkapelle :)

  • dece

  • that was pretty impressive

  • I have always loved this song by Otis Redding as I have always wanted to live by the ocean. I was searching for his version when I came across yours, I love the way you do this song, and have adopted your version, nothing against Otis, but you have a unique sound of your own, will be looking for more songs you have recorded.

  • He did the whistleing at the end because he didnt feel like the song was through

  • Yeah, I heard he wanted to make one more verse...but alas...

  • i like this video im in the 8 th grade and our teacher let us listen to this and its pretty good...he died 3 days after he recorded this song from an overdose..they dont know if it was accidental or purpose

  • Hi Brittney, I'm glad you like my rendition of Otis Redding's song.

Redding, his manager, the pilot, and four members of The Bar-Kays were killed when his Beechcraft 18 airplane crashed into Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin, on December 10, 1967. The cause of the airplane crash was never precisely determined.

Otis was survived by his wife, mother and father, his sons Dexter and Otis III and his daughter Karla.

  • @rickdevin thanks for telling me about that...he is a really goos singer and this is a great video

  • @BrittneyKayChristian Britiny, So did you tell your teacher after reading the real story of Otis Redding's sad death from Rick, that she needs to do her research homework much better? lol But it is true that a lot of great artists have died accidently using drugs, usually mixed with alcohol.

A good lesson though; Don't believe everything teachers tell you. You can still respect them, but check out facts and ideas, more importantly,, for yourself.

    Take care and enjoy life!

  • Hey Rick did you go through Harry Fox to pay the mechanicals or directly to Ottis Redding estate? just curious, thanks in advance for the response.

    E.

  • The song, "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay", written by Otis Redding and Steve Cropper in 1968, appears on my "OLD SCHOOL - Hits of the 60s & 70s" CD with permission from Almo Music Corp Publishing and is copyright licensed [Mechanical & PDD Licensed] through Harry Fox Agency, NY.

  • I love this song so muchhhh <3 great song!

  • I love it great job.

  • Ive just looked at the info,,,you played with Joe Walsh??? From the Eagles??? :O

  • Dear JoeOByrne,

Chet McCracken, who played drums & percussion on all of the songs from my "Old School - Hits of the 60s & 70s" CD, is the former drummer from "The Doobie Brothers". He has also recorded and/or toured with other notables such as "Joe Walsh", "Fleetwood Mac", "America" and many, many more. I am honored that he was able to join me on my project and he added a perfect back bone to all of the songs with his fantastic drum & percussion work. ~ Rick

  • Where can you get this CD?

  • Dear Joe,

    Thanks for asking!

You can find Downloads and CDs through all of the online websites (such as iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, etc.). Just go to your favorite music website and search for "Rick Devin", or "Old School - Hits of the 60s & 70s". Hope you enjoy the music. ~ Rick

a posthumous hit for poor Otis (RIP)

  • nice!good song.

  • Nice one! I Like it, I'm starting to learn how to piano play it!

  • Thanks JoeOByrne3... Good luck with your piano playing and we look forward to hearing it someday...

    Your friend in music,

    Rick Devin

  • This is the way I wish Otis had sung it.

    Didn't know Cropper was involved.

You sing it as if a new day was dawning....but with a slight smile hidden between the lyrics.

    Awesome !!

  • You have got to be kidding, this version is pretty good, but the original was not meant to be sung as if a new day was dawning.

It was meant to be a dark rendition, not an up-beat one. Just listening to the lyrics could tell you that.

  • This is a nice version of the song.

  • you cannot just get up and walk away from yourself.....but then again i have had an out of body experiance myself....

  • Went to school with Rick in Massachusetts. I travelled to Illinois, Florida,Connecticut, Caribbean, Connecticut and back home to Massachusetts. I can relate to this introspective. I urge all to seek his music and...........enjoy

  • wow nice job sir!

  • enjoyed, thank you!

  • Good version!

  • What a great version of this great classic...

    Thank you, my friend...

    Celestino...

  • finally a decent cover.

  • This deserves five stars.

    imo.

  • People should listen to the words and take a little time to reflect on their own lives, as it appears Rick has done here.

  • A nice version of this song.

    Good feeling.

  • Not too bad. Better than most of the nonsense I've come across. After previewing about 10 of these, I finally found one I can actually listen to. Good job.

  • Hey rickdevin,

This is really great. A wonderful cover of the original brilliance. You've made it your own, yet kept the meaning and feeling of it intact. You did Otis proud- I'm sure!

    Love it.. I really do.

    You have a great talent.

Thanks for uploading this- I'll be sure to buy your album

    Khalid.

  • Your amazing, the song as well is fantastic. keep this talent going :)

  • this is a good cover, but youTube needs to quit trippin with all this copyright shit! Put the original back up!!

  • Thank you for your comments. Glad you enjoyed my cover of this great song.

Just so that you know, I personally pay, each year, for the royalties to cover the copyright usage of this song. The song was recorded on my "Old School - Hits of the 60s & 70s" CD and as I said, all royalties are paid each year to all of the songwriters, or their family members, and the publishing companies for all the songs from the CD and any music videos or other promotional usages.

    Your friend in music,

    Rick Devin
