The point of this is not necessarily to say that students can make a difference in the vote, but to exercise our right to democracy. Look at all the people around the world right now who are dying to get a change to vote. We should be proud of the fact that we can help to choose our leaders, and that our leaders listen to the nation's needs. Also, it's in an effort to get politicians to finally pay us some attention, and not just our parents.

Youth don't vote, for the most part, because they have ideals, values, principles, and believe that "political freedom" goes further than putting an x in a little box once every four years. Perhaps if the candidates differed in the least bit in terms of their policies, not just in rhetoric, people would indeed go and vote. Really I don't see much true difference between this system and that of a liberal autocracy. In other words, i'm not free.
