Does anyone know the hymn or patriotic anthem that uses the melody from the first bar of this overture? Words are something like.."O God, our God ....who helped to preserve and to make us a nation". There IS one! My curiosity is killing me. Thanks!
who is that conducting?? my gosh he looks like Franz Lizst! Love the flowing white hair--so artistic. All conductors should wear their hair like this--its soooo theatrical. Muti does it too.

Great performance with a big lyric touch (especiallly the cello presentation) that describes the sensitive way Wagner originally intended to present this music. Highly extended change of pit to the drammatic part which gives us listeners a good example of musicality. Thank you for this interpretation!!!!!!!!!!!
