Nintendo won't be dead for the next century, as far as they have new innovations for their console. And I'm sure they'll manage it, or they'll just dig up old ideas, i. e. Power Glove->Wii,.
I do agree, Nintendo is trying to hard to make things "new and improved"...the Wii had motion control,but it was more gimmicky because it was really just IR tracking on the controller. the 3DS has the eye-straining 3D and lack-luster game line-up. The Wii-U needs to step things up, or I got a feeling its going to be the last Nintendo console (let's hope not, I mean, I love Mario games, and I don't want to see Mario going away!)
Oh and PS2 has YET to be discontinued. They are STILL MAKING GAMES FOR IT in 2011. Sony still manufactures the hardware. It has not been discontinued. Hell they didn't discontinue the PS1 till 2006.
If what you're saying is that 3DS was rushed released, I completely agree with you. They should have released it with those anticipated titles, Super Mario 3DS, Paper Mario 3DS etc. But it was released too early that non of the games were ready to be launch with it. And hence the crappy games, Super Street Fighter, Nintendogs + Cats etc.

I slightly disagree with you view on the DS having two screens being a problem. The PSP was supposed to be more powerful and better to use than the DS, however the DS completely obliterated the PSP once the DS got good games made for them on a consistent basis compared to the PSP. Therefore, the problem with the 3DS does not lie on the dual-screen approach, but rather good games being made that utilize the technology of the 3DS well.
The only reason the 3ds had low sales rates was because it wasn't released during the holidays. And it was already in stores when it wasn't even fully upgraded yet.
Hey, nintendo is making a new console called the wii u and it will have this controller with a touch screen. The controller's much like the iPad and the wii u's graphics are going to be HD. It's a rumor but it could be true
The reason the 3rd isn't selling is because it was rushed to meet the investors needs. They launched it without the eshop and no killer app games. Wait till ocarina of time 3d comes out, it's going to sell a lot. There's also later this year Mario kart 3ds, super Mario 3ds, animal crossing, kid Icarus and whatever they announce at e3. I don't think it's fair to judge the system saying it's dead less than 2months in.

i agree with @sonicxracer when the main titles come out the 3ds will do better, they didnt bring out the main titles because they didnt want to cause a shortage on the 3ds, also if it hurts your eye just turn the 3d off and enjoy to nice graphics, the 3ds has better graphics the the ds, the only thing nintendo messed up is the region lock, i live in japan and i cant even set my 3ds that im in japan because is a us model
@Nova2Be I would have to disagree, although the DS lite can play DS games, the DSi/XL can run apps in it as well. Also, the 3DS is a new console, with graphics almost as good as xbox 360 plus it has: 3D, virtual console, motion control, analog stick, netflix, online connectivity, and a bunch of amazing titles coming to it, plus it has backwards compatibility.
It's also not fair to compare the Sony "NGP" to the 3DS as the NGP is still vaporware at this point. It doesn't even have a real name yet. Not to mention price! If it's as powerful as they say, the shit aint gonna be cheap. And with how HORRIBLY Sony dropped the ball on this PSN fiasco, I would expect NGP (if it comes out this year), to be a total and utter flop.
I disagree - and as far as the 3DS specifically, it's my undertsanding that Nintendo is not even trying to widely market it yet. It boils down to games. The launch lineup was weak, and we have not had any good games come out for it. Yet. Wait until later this year, when the AAA titles come out and Nintendo gives it a big marketing push. from the perspective of a parent I find the mobile games easier on the wallet and less time and energy to obtain so if the prices are equal I would lean towards a mobile device for my child.

I just finished viewing your video and it seems to me (based on what i have read) that Nintendo is doing everything you advised. Better and cheaper games on the 3DSware (app store), yes the 3DS has 3D but it isn't THAT gimmicky, it is a lot more impressive than HD. Also, but ipod games kind of suck in comparison to handheld games in general. And the graphics on the 3DS are greatly improved over the psp and DS, some games look like xbox 360 games and there are a lot of great titles coming soon.
Oh, the thing you said about the app store the 3DS seems to be doing. The wifi on the 3DS is great and Nintendo is not limiting the amount of space a game can take up. The 3DS apps store also includes the virtual console so you can play old classics on your device. The reason that the 3DS hasn't sold so well is a combination of the disaster in Japan and the fact that most of the good games coming to it aren't coming out till mid June. The 3DS is awesome and it will do well, trust me.

I don't think Nintendo is going to fail anytime soon. The 3DS is not selling as well just because it had the most mediocre launch ever in Nintendo console history, none of the game released was a must play and therefore there's no need on buying it. A lot of the games that got people hyped about the system like Kid Ikarus, Zelda and Mario are still far away.

The 3DS is way ahead of the times in concept but poorly executed. The 3D gives me a a bit of a migraine after after a minute of looking at it. I don't see the DS keeping up the momentum with NGP from Sony.
The Wii's hype factor has worn off and its big lacking feature, HD graphics, is hurting the competitiveness. I would love the see the DS and Wii 2 (HD) work together. 3D in its current form is rubbish, I'm so not on the bandwagon.
I personally feel that I would rather carry around my iPhone and play Tiny Wings, Angry Birds, Flight Control, etc. and be able to casually use it rather than having to worry about an additional device. I used to be big on gaming on my PSP but I just use my iPhone now.

I think people are tired of Nintendo creating hardware that isn't pushing forward in terms of graphics and cpu power. Their past has proven that their customers prefer the quality of game titles over graphics, but I feel that people are growing tired of it. Once they can create a product with graphics and features (HD support, DVD/Blu-Ray drive, etc.) that match the competition, then the tables will turn in their favor once again. They have the games, they just need the hardware to catch up.

It's not that Nintendo doesn't make good games, but Nintendo just doesn't support the popular games that are coming out lately. Nintendo makes great games and they are the main company that I play. It's not that I try to avoid the other companies BECAUSE they're popular, I have an X-Box 360 and PS2 and play them very much, but Nintendo entertains me the most. I think the 3DS is awesome. I bought one at launch and am happily awaiting the big titles. Unfortunately, that's ALL I'm doing: awaiting.

Im really excited about the PSP NGP and i'm not a big fan of portable gaming. It has amazing specs like a quad-core processor, 5-inch touchscreen OLED display, and built in 3G, just to name few. What i'm most excited about is the dual analog sticks. I think that's going to make it a lot more like the gaming experience I get from my Xbox 360 or PS3. I can't wait.

@alexanderp1337 A console is easy to buy, its everything you need to play the game. Most PC games, you need monster machines to play followed by lengthy installs. You dont have to upgrade your xbox 360 to play the next greatest game coming out.

@alexanderp1337 pc games have high system requirements. every few months there's a new generation of games and a new generation of video cards/cpu's. this a LOT of money compared to that of a console that does not have to be upgraded (unless it's to a different console). though i've always been a PC gamer, i can't afford to keep upgrading my system and it's depressing to have to lower the resolution or video quality of newly released games just to play them without lag ):

Before, any computer can run CS1.6 or Red Alert2, now with the new Titles coming out like Crysis 2, the cost of buying a computer that can run Crysis 2 can probably buy both Xbox360 and Ps3, so why would you buy PC when you can buy Consoles.

I read in this month's Game Informer that the next nintendo will be gimmick free, and graphics up to par, or better than Xbox 360 and PS3. Now, I think that they will probably release a system with controllers as the main control of the games. There might be "wiimote" functions and such, but I think they will be taking the safe road this year. I'm still rooting for you nintendo!

The Genesis was NOT more powerful than SNES, SNES was allot stronger and Genesis was first to market in 1989 while SNES was released in 1991.
N64 was released in 1996 while Dreamcast was released in 1999. And the Playstation beat the N64, N64 did NOT dominate that gen at all.

from the perspective of a parent I find the mobile games easier on the wallet and less time and energy to obtain so if the prices are equal I would lean towards a mobile device for my child.

I just finished viewing your video and it seems to me (based on what i have read) that Nintendo is doing everything you advised. Better and cheaper games on the 3DSware (app store), yes the 3DS has 3D but it isn't THAT gimmicky, it is a lot more impressive than HD. Also, but ipod games kind of suck in comparison to handheld games in general. And the graphics on the 3DS are greatly improved over the psp and DS, some games look like xbox 360 games and there are a lot of great titles coming soon.

Oh, the thing you said about the app store the 3DS seems to be doing. The wifi on the 3DS is great and Nintendo is not limiting the amount of space a game can take up. The 3DS apps store also includes the virtual console so you can play old classics on your device. The reason that the 3DS hasn't sold so well is a combination of the disaster in Japan and the fact that most of the good games coming to it aren't coming out till mid June. The 3DS is awesome and it will do well, trust me.

While I agree with you on some of that, thinking the NGP is just gonna dominate the market is just as ludicrous. Look at the device if paying $40 for a ds game was a big problem imagine not only how much the NGP itself will cost but the games it's supposed to run as well. I don't think Nintendo is going to fail anytime soon. The 3DS is not selling as well just because it had the most mediocre launch ever in Nintendo console history, none of the game released was a must play and therefore there's no need on buying it. A lot of the games that got people hyped about the system like Kid Ikarus, Zelda and Mario are still far away.
I'll say wait till Zelda and the others come out and see what happens, if 3DS still lags behind after that then there's a big problem.

To be honest I hate gaming on the iphone: 99% of the games are a pain in the ass.the best is probably THPS2 and modern combat 2 which shows that third party games are crap.additionally I really miss harware buttons because when your fingers are on the screen it takes space away so that I cant see barely

The 3DS is way ahead of the times in concept but poorly executed. The 3D gives me a a bit of a migraine after after a minute of looking at it. I don't see the DS keeping up the momentum with NGP from Sony.
The Wii's hype factor has worn off and its big lacking feature, HD graphics, is hurting the competitiveness. I would love the see the DS and Wii 2 (HD) work together. 3D in its current form is rubbish, I'm so not on the bandwagon.

I personally feel that I would rather carry around my iPhone and play Tiny Wings, Angry Birds, Flight Control, etc. and be able to casually use it rather than having to worry about an additional device. I used to be big on gaming on my PSP but I just use my iPhone now.

I think people are tired of Nintendo creating hardware that isn't pushing forward in terms of graphics and cpu power. Their past has proven that their customers prefer the quality of game titles over graphics, but I feel that people are growing tired of it. Once they can create a product with graphics and features (HD support, DVD/Blu-Ray drive, etc.) that match the competition, then the tables will turn in their favor once again. They have the games, they just need the hardware to catch up.

It's not that Nintendo doesn't make good games, but Nintendo just doesn't support the popular games that are coming out lately. Nintendo makes great games and they are the main company that I play. It's not that I try to avoid the other companies BECAUSE they're popular, I have an X-Box 360 and PS2 and play them very much, but Nintendo entertains me the most. I think the 3DS is awesome. I bought one at launch and am happily awaiting the big titles. Unfortunately, that's ALL I'm doing: awaiting.

Im really excited about the PSP NGP and i'm not a big fan of portable gaming. It has amazing specs like a quad-core processor, 5-inch touchscreen OLED display, and built in 3G, just to name few. What i'm most excited about is the dual analog sticks. I think that's going to make it a lot more like the gaming experience I get from my Xbox 360 or PS3. I can't wait.

@alexanderp1337 A console is easy to buy, its everything you need to play the game. Most PC games, you need monster machines to play followed by lengthy installs. You dont have to upgrade your xbox 360 to play the next greatest game coming out.

@alexanderp1337 pc games have high system requirements. every few months there's a new generation of games and a new generation of video cards/cpu's. this a LOT of money compared to that of a console that does not have to be upgraded (unless it's to a different console). though i've always been a PC gamer, i can't afford to keep upgrading my system and it's depressing to have to lower the resolution or video quality of newly released games just to play them without lag ):

Before, any computer can run CS1.6 or Red Alert2, now with the new Titles coming out like Crysis 2, the cost of buying a computer that can run Crysis 2 can probably buy both Xbox360 and Ps3, so why would you buy PC when you can buy Consoles.

@LokiTime It might run most on the market, but there are some exclusives for certain consoles plus the support it has for online and it is usually less of a hassle to play games on a console. Plus you need a pretty powerful pc to run those games.

I think Nintendo needs to follow Sony and Microsoft in making a console for GAMING, not just fun little dinky things. They need to aim for teenage to young adult range, that's where I think the money is. I do agree with you for most of the opinions in the video. I read in this month's Game Informer that the next nintendo will be gimmick free, and graphics up to par, or better than Xbox 360 and PS3. Now, I think that they will probably release a system with controllers as the main control of the games. There might be "wiimote" functions and such, but I think they will be taking the safe road this year. I'm still rooting for you nintendo!
