I love this idea, but I don't believe it will ever happen. The demographic shift will make sure the Alamo will never be restored. In fact, due to the hostility towards Crockett, Bowie, etc...that the new population has, I wouldnt be suprised if they level the Alamo in order to build a free medical clinic, or low-cost-housing.
Gary I am all for this plan but I must ask how do you plan to get all of the shops and other businesses along Alamo Plaza to move to another location? All of these shops and stores have a vested intrest in the plaza and they will no go without a fight, also where will the money to restore the plaza come from?Is this just a pipe dream or is there a real movement to get this done?
Yes. Yes. Yes. This should be done and now. When the odds are long and the stakes high, what words do even today our American soldiers rally under ? It is "Remember Gettysburg" or "Remember Pearl Harbor" ? As respectful as those places are, no, it is REMEMBER THE ALAMO !!!
Your presentation lacks one very important historical fact - If you indeed propose returning the Plaza as it would have been during the 1836 siege and battle you must remove the parapet and roof of the mission church. To not do so would be disingenuous.
@Whatafarce First of all, our plan has nothing to do with the Alamo Church. Our plan is about restoring the other 70% of the compound that is run by the city. We are also NOT proposing returning the plaza back to 1836, that would not be practical in the middle of downtown, but simply defining (not completely enclosing) the original space in a digified way so people will understand the sacred ground they're walking on.
Great presentation, video, sculptures, graphics and a noble restoration endeavor. Although the Alamo is a former Catholic Mission, battle ground and graveyard it has been used and abused by the City of San Antonio. A change is long overdue.

Brilliant, I hope they finish it. Great restoration plan, and a great 3D recreation of the project, my congratulations to the visualization team!

If they build it-I will come.
I'd come from NYC at least once per year to visit THAT Alamo plaza. The way it currently is, Id say one visit was enough for me...It was depressing.
