I got my DSi with specks of dust embeded in the screen. I got my camera with scratches on the front. It's just normal. I wouldn't worry about it. (:

the reason the ipod doesn't scratch is because of its hardness. no matter how sharp something is, if it isn't harder than the silicon glass, it won't scratch it. that's why metal does nothing to it.. however sand is silicon glass, so that would be hard enough to scratch the screen. obviously diamond would also scratch the screen.

Well the iPhone and iPod screens are pretty scratch proof besides the 3GS, because that has an oleophobic coating, which wears off after a while becoming pretty scratch proof. They are scratch proof because they are glass. Iron, and metals, are around a 4 on the hardness scale, glass is around a 6 on hardness scale.
